Good all round performance tonight. Offense got their hits when they had to, the bullpen did their part, and Javy gave us 6 solid innings. Let's take this momentum to Comerica and get on the Tigers like we did last season.

White Sox vs. Rangers, 4/19/07 (W)

Gotta bring Thome in here. -
Well you'll have to definitely pay Capital Gains Tax when you sell shares. Don't know what it is up there, but down here if you sell after you hold it for a year, only 50% of it is taxed. Usually you work out how much CGT you have to pay through indexation or discounting I think is the other method. Also depends on your marginal tax rate as well I think IIRC. Here's a good summary of it; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_gains_tax#United_States

Fantastic outing by Mark, and well deserved. Let's hope he can pitch close to this for the rest of the season, and get back to that pre 2005 ASB and before form. If he can, it'll be a huge boost for our chances in this division. We need 1 of those pitchers to get back near to ace status numbers wise again.

Rasner pitched 6 scoreless innings which was good to see. Carter doubled and drew 2 walks.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 02:20 AM) I've heard otherwise. Ever since the AFL last year, he's been very consistant with the fastball and has been relying on the slider less. I've heard his slider is graded between 60-70 on the scouting scale, and his fastball just needs to find the zone to accompany it. I probably should have worded my statement better. What I meant was that in no way is the fastball comparable to his slider, but yes it is getting better, but it's something that he still IMHO needs to keep improving to help him make it to the majors.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) No reason to bring Dye back, IMO, at this stage. I don't think my answer will change, either. Dye's speed is down and that's probably not something that'll come back in the warm weather. Dye's always been a notoriously slow starter though, well at least for us. He always seems to produce around the June / July mark when the weather does warm up, so I'm willing to wait and see what happens with him production wise before writing him off.

I agree with Beck in saying I think we'll go all out for Ichiro this off-season. And really, he's one of those marketable players, that will bring more people to the ballpark, and raise revenue from different areas such as merchandise both in Chicago and in Japan, so he'll help pay for his contract. For that to happen, we'll have to re-sign Gooch, and probably let at least 1 of Dye or Buehrle go. Probably, if you signed Ichiro, you'd let Dye go, and then possibly either let Sweeney take over, or sign a high risk FA in the off-season who could produce good numbers hitting at the Cell.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) Am I to believe of the 17 outs recorded by Day only 1 hasn't been via the strikeout? This guy must have a slider comparable to Brad Lidge. And a fastball fairly close. And you remember how dangerous that combo was for Lidge before he got the heebie jeebies mentally from Mr. Pujols. We might have something with Day. He's been a good find from our scouts nonetheless. Still needs to work on his fastball though from I hear.

Let's hope Danksy can put in another good outing. Let's go SOX!!!!!

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 06:36 AM) Eddie Murphy the father of Scary Spice's child? http://tinyurl.com/2967vt I heard that a few months ago, although I don't know if it's been 100% confirmed or not. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) No rain checks? Don't know what the situation is up there, but I use to work for a major retailer down here, and we never really offered rainchecks on anything that was majorly on sale.

So a good week of a action in the Champions League. 3 English Teams in the Final 4, could be a sign of things in the future I think. Also tonight, about 6 games on in the EPL, Arsenal play Bolton at Emirates in the battle for 4th, we take on Sheffield United in what will be a dogfight, and the FA Cup semi finals are on b/w Man Utd vs. Watford and Chelsea vs. Blackburn.

After CY and McCarthy, which former Sox prospect
DBAHO replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
Jon Rauch and Gary Majewski have developed into pretty solid relievers, although ATM our pen is looking quite good. And although he's done nothing so far in the majors, I still think Jeremy Reed can develop into a Rusty Greer type of hitter. He just needs to be in the right situation, and in a hitters environment to do so. -
QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Say what you want, but I wouldn't want to be burned by a Boras client that doesn't sign or at least doesn't sign until almost a year later. Yeah probably my thoughts as well, although in the end it does depend on the prospect, and you always want to take the best available. I think it's time for the Sox to address the void they have with middle infielders as well, by taking one in the 1st couple of rounds. Tolisano sounds like a guy who could be had around the range of our 1st pick. But still, young pitching should always be a premium, and hopefully with the change in guys running our scouting and draft selections now, we see more high risk pitchers who can bring the heat more.

It's only early, but Chris Carter is raking down at Kanny. He keeps doing that, he's going to start drawing more attention to himself and moving up the prospects chart.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 01:59 AM) It just bothers me that Jason and I were pretty much on the same wavelength the entire show. Yeah at least get an argument going with him or something. Having you 2 agree although the time cannot be good for ratings.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) What the heck is up with Terrero? This guy has been raking since the start of spring training. If he keeps it up, it'll probably hasten the calls for BA to return to Charlotte to get some regular AB's.

Perfect comeback win. Aardsma looks good, good to see Jenks rebound, and to the offense for getting some clutch hits and walks when it counted. And well done to Mark for a good outing after the start he had.

Blackhawks win top pick in NHL Entry draft
DBAHO replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Great news, although it's too bad there's no sure #1 pick out there. Right now I'd go Patrick Kane, just ahead of Voracek. I'll come up with some potential trade offers in the next few days. It's a situation though, where the Hawks could easily trade down in the top 5, and get some extra early picks if they wanted possibly. -
QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Crazy Aussies. I totally thought the same thing when I first read that. Well then you're ALL crazy then. And I guess Andrew Bogut has replaced Luc Longley as the "Big White Stiff".

Wasn't pretty, but we got the job done. Good job by Jose getting out of jams, and to our offense for getting key hits, Pods and Thome especially. And good job by the 3 main guys in the pen lockin it down.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) I like seeing Carter with a 3-5 game. That guy has the ability to be a middle of the order MONSTER. Hopefully he can put up the numbers he did in rookie ball last season for Kanny this season, because he needs to take that next step.
-
BWAHAHAHA. Pods!?

C'mon Jose. Get out of this.
