Consider this from a Devil Rays point of view. Right now they have a SS/3B combo of Ben Zobrist and B.J Upton. Now they've tried Upton at SS for a few years and it just hasn't worked. So they're going to give him 3B for the next 5-10 years I would imagine. Now he's not hitting well and he has 11 Errors in 29 games, but I would imagine they'll still give him as much time as possible to let him settle into that position. If they think right now, "No Upton's never going to be good enough for SS and 3B" then yeah they could be interested in Fields but I don't see it. They certainly don't have room in the OF for him with Baldelli, Young, Gomes just to name a few there. They're trying to build around young pitching, hence why they've made deals for the likes of J.P Howell and Mitch Talbot.

So we're .5 back of Minny and only 4.5 back of Detroit now. At the end of the season this win could be absolutely HUGE in terms of if we make it or not.

Sox vs. Indians...Anthony John Walkoff

Wow. This is just absolutely devastating. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) I will predict right now we will sign either Julio Lugo or Juan Pierre this offseason. I see Lugo ending up with Mets. They have a hole at 2B and he was a fan of theirs growing up. Pierre would yeah be more realistic (where's Jeckle with his PIERRE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!) posts when ya need him. Lugo's probably going to get around 5/40M as well I would say. Don't know about Pierre contract wise though.

So the Steelers looked good last night. I don't get how some experts don't think they'll do better than 8-8. They still have one of the best defenses in the league, and most of their offense returning minus Bettis and Randle El. Jags vs. Cowboys should be one of the games of the week. Really looking for our defense to become a top 5 MINIMUM this season, we've got the players to do so. And former Bear Marc Colombo is our starting RT now. Couldn't be worse than Petiti last season I wouldn't imagine.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:35 AM) Well if Sweeney is starting it better be in left field with a new shortstop to leadoff. I'll be completely lost and pretty pissed if Brian isn't the starting cf next season. You could have Sweeney and Anderson down the bottom of the order, with a guy like Jimmy Rollins leading off. Rollins has been mentioned on here quite a bit. Since Ozzie wants more speed in the lineup getting another LF like Dellucci seems unrealistic now.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) Quit jumping off of the bandwagon, the kid is going to be back in Chicago next year, and he will be just fine. Yeah I don't see how the Sox would not pick up his option this off-season. I mean those calling for Zito, Zito's going to probably get a bigger contract than what Roy Oswalt got, because he'll have the 2 New York teams after him, and other big market teams like the Cubs as well. If Buehrle turns it around, great you can attempt to re-sign him to a long - term deal, trade him at the deadline, or get the 2 draft picks if he leaves. You wouldn't let him just walk away without getting some type of compensation for him after what he's achieved over the past 5 or so seasons. Buehrle's just been owned by the Indians this season, they're his bogey team. Before last night though, he actually had 4 quality starts in his last 5.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) I'll be extremely pissed if we get rid of a starter, and it's not Garcia. Exactly my thoughts personified. Why would you want to give up Vazquez right now, that makes no sense to me. He had a 3.41 ERA in August in 6 starts and has a 1.13 ERA this month from his great start in Boston. His value wouldn't exactly be at its highest right now, and there's a lot more possible future reward if we stick by him, which I'm sure we will. He also has 40 K's during those 7 starts, we don't have many dominating strikeout pitchers in this rotation (which I'm sure Flash will tell you). QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) I can't believe the amount of people that are ready to give up on anderson after one year. He's shown so much promise. It's quite sad that Ozzie uses stats and the matchups a lot for say the bullpen, but won't look at the promise Brian Anderson has shown in the 2nd half of this season.

From Scot Gregor, it's an interesting one to say the least; Where do I start on this. 1 - Sweeney over Anderson? Personally I think you could almost fit both, but I'd still like for Sweeney to get some more AAA experience under his belt. 2 - Juan Uribe. I've turned on him, beforehand I thought yeah with his contract and defensive play yeah you could keep him. But his defense hasn't been as good this season, and his hitting has gotten worse. It's a position we can certainly upgrade, and I think we should. 3 - Eric Bedard. Why would the O's want to trade their best SP? I mean if you could get Bedard and Tejada in a deal involving Garcia, Uribe, Broadway and more prospects etc. what do people think about that?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) I hope he's not a member of the White Sox organization. That's not based on anything that's happened in his brief major league career either. He should have at least some decent trade value and I just can't trust a knuckleballer, ya I'm racist against knuckleballers. Probably now would be the most ideal time to move him, since his value is at the highest it's really ever been (well earlier on in the season it was probably even higher). Still it's something KW probably wouldn't consider I would imagine.

QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Someone's got to play left as pods is not getting it done. i'd love to see nothing but sweeney in center and mack/gload in left. Where's Brian Anderson he of the Post ASB .278/.328/.421 meant to fit in that equation?

Anyone think that West Ham will finish above of Arsenal for that 4th Champions League Spot now?

So Detroit taking care of Minny 3-0 early I see. Scott Baker not doing the job so far for the Twinkies.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) personally im also not against trading 2 of our SP's this offseason and giving the last 2 spots to B-Mac and a competition of Haeger/Broadway for the 5th spot. The loser of those 2 would of course go to triple A and become our 6th starter. Than Tracey could probably take B-Macs role in the bullpen and if we wanted Logan could take Cotts role. With the way Vazquez has looked over the past month and a half, I've got no doubts he'll be part of this ballclub next season. That means Freddy is the odd man out. Broadway probably needs a year down at AAA. The tough pitching environment down there will do him some good, before he's a member of this rotation. I would also rather sign a FA on a 1 year deal with incentives before instantly handing the job to Haeger or Broadway. Probably be good for Haeger to get some experience at the major league level in the bullpen first, just like Mark Buehrle really, and if he's sucessful there, you don't have to move him.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) This is one thing that I believe had absolutely nothing to do with the Sox being horrid for so long now. Agreed. I mean if we can win a world series with Crazy Carl Everett in the #3 hole, why can't we with Jim Thome? It's all about the pitching. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) Im not trying to hate on Thome, but in April he was dangerous for us. He hit the ball the other way, he took walks, he didnt swing at every pitch. The solo homeruns are great, but I'd rather see the Konerko/Dye type shots that tie the game/put us in the lead. Well for that to happen, the men hitting in front of Thome have to get on base. And Podsednik hasn't been doing that, and Iguchi hasn't been exactly hot either lately.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) Having an OPS of over .800 in the Pioneer League is nothing to write home about. Considering he came straight out of college and didn't produce well in Rookie ball, he's got a long, long ways to go. Oh yeah absolutely, especially when you compared that a guy like Gartrell who pretty much instantly produced down at Rookie Ball. Hopefully next season, Shelby can produce better than what's he shown so far for us in the minors.

QUOTE(irishsoxer @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) Nice one genius. Sox get 4 hits tonight - Sweeney has 2 of those hits -goes 2-3 in his first game ever and HE knows how to run the bases unlike our 2nd Basemen. Get real. This guy is for real. Alrighty then. Thanks for calling me a genius though.

The word quit is such a subjective term. I couldn't honestly believe that a team that is fighting to make the playoffs by the skin of the teeth, would just say "No screw this, I'd rather be playing on the Golf Course in October". Ask Javy Vazquez if he had quit last night on the mound, and Jon Garland the night before. Our SP has been FANTASTIC over the past 2 games, something that we have been crying out for all season long. But our offense which has been something which we have come to depend on, just hasn't produced, because guys like Konerko etc. aren't in the greatest of form right now.

Many of you would know that I'm not as much of an Ozzie "Hater" as the vast majority here, I'll back him most times when it comes to the running of this ballclub, because of the record we have over the past season and a half. That said I will flame him for the way he has handled Brian Anderson and our young players on the major league levels. Maybe there was a reason BA didn't want to go winter ball, because he's tired after his 1st full major league season. But just because he didn't want to go, doesn't mean his "stock" within the organization and Ozzie should just drop, but hey it happened to Jerry Owens I guess when he left winter ball midway thru the last off - season. Ozzie just hasn't done a good job putting Brian in the right situations to succeed, in terms of giving him AB's against lefties when he was struggling, DESPITE the fact he only had a .500 OPS against them (something like that), and a much higher OPS against righties, but Ozzie gave the AB's to Rob Machowiak, which majorly took away from our defense. So Ozzie when you say he hasn't gotten enough AB's, that's not Brian's fault, that's yours.
