  1. QUOTE(Reddy @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) what you seriously think that keeping people from bringing shampoo on the plane will stop terrorist attacks? wow. if the plots been 'foiled' then no one's gonna try the same thing any time soon. and if we DID foil it prior to them getting to an airport why do changes need to be made at the airport? obviously we're doing a good enough job... i'm sorry, but 3-4 hour lines at security is ridiculous and pointless Because whose to say terrorists won't try something else right now with all the attention this is getting? I'm sure if there was ANY risk at all, passengers would rather go thru queues for 3 to 4 hours to fly in peace and safety instead of just going through the normal security checks.
  2. QUOTE(Wedge @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) Joe Girardi is one helluva manager Too bad Jeffrey Loria doesn't think so. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 12:58 AM) Cubs fans are green with envy. 2 World Series Titles in 15 years of baseball. With the suckfest that is the NL, the Marlins could go to their 3rd World Series. And could Girardi be managing the Cubs next season?
  3. The only other way I can see getting a leadoff hitter on this team is at shortstop. And with what has happened with Uribe recently, I wouldn't rule it out. And that's if you want Josh Fields to play LF next season. You could go a Dellucci or Matthews Jr. instead for a couple of years. But that would most likely have to come through a trade (getting a leadoff hitting SS), unless you wanted Iguchi to leadoff, but I don't want him to move from the #2 spot.

    Dye V Maggs

    QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) Fans bitterness at Magglio rejecting the Sox contract offer always confused me. There is no way the Sox win the WS last year if he signed it, and Dye is going to get paid in 3 years what Magglio makes in 1, and has been more productive. Yeah that situation has pretty much worked out perfectly for us, and it could have been a lot worse had Dye not met expectations here.
  5. With the way Teahen has hit, maybe Moore could actually move him in a nice deal for some real good pitching prospect this off-season. I think the Royals are fine in terms of position prospects, Gordon, Butler and Huber is a nice core there. It's just they really some good young pitching to reach the major league level of the team. They'll be getting Zach Greinke back though.
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) I still say JP Losman is going to be the best QB in the NFL this year And I still say I have better chance of being Seattle's new General Manager than that happening.
  7. JOSE CONTRERAS!!!!! Great day for us, with the Twins and Yanks both losing as well.
  8. Jose needs to go out there and be the Jose we saw the 2nd half of last season, and the Jose we saw at the start of this season. Needless to say, tonight's game is absolutely huge, and sets a big tone for this series, especially with Rogers and Miner up for Detroit the next 2 games, and they've REALLY struggled post ASB.
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) I agree, but to be honest I'll buy into it a LOT more if the Sox sweep this series. Even one win for the Tigers this weekend cuts down any real chance for the Sox to dig in and send a message. The Sox NEED all three, in my book. I'd still take 2 out of 3 to be honest. Just keep chipping away at it. Because if you can get that margin back to around 5 games, it's only going to put more pressure on them to hold it. And we know that first hand from last season when we had the Indians chasing us.
  10. Yeah the umpiring for the last 2 games was absolutely terrible. And it's a real shame when you get 2 of the best teams in baseball up against each other, and part of that spectacle gets ruined, whether it's through a blown call like that, or with that terrible strike zone they had operating against Vazquez (who was good enough to overcome that) last night.
  11. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) More importantly than anything, rewarding Jerry with close to 3m asses in the seats will encourage him to go out and get another big name FA next year. Alfonso Soriano, Lee? Lee won't be back with this organization ever again. Soriano would want a no trade clause with a 4 or 5 year deal and that's a huge risk. And yes he's had a great season, but IIRC, his OBP is still worse than Podsednik's this season. More likely the Sox could use the money they would get from trading a starter like Garcia, to perhaps get a new leadoff hitter like Dellucci, upgrade the pen a little more, and perhaps get a new shortstop like Tejada in possibly?
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) I think you might start seeing some empty seats at Wrigley next year, unless a huge move is made by the Cubs in the off-season. I think it takes a trade for ARod or Tejada, or someone of that calibur to keep the lemmings coming, especially if the Sox make anykind of a showing in post season play. You can feel the bitterness creeping in for Cub fans, the next step is to quit going if progress isn't shown. Especially if Pierre and Ramirez both leave as FA's this off-season (I think Aramis can opt out of his deal this off-season can't he?). And to get one of those 2 players you've mentioned, they'll definitely have to give up a Felix Pie, so who replaces Pierre if he leaves?
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Half price Monday should be a sellout, and when I tried to exchange some season tickets for Tuesday's game, I was told that was sold out. I still think they are going to fall just short of 3 million, but its nice to know that attendance, or lack of, is not a huge story in Chicago anymore. Hopefully the Sox win the WS again and its not an issue, but if by chance they don't, or if they don't make the playoffs, it will be interesting to see the season ticket renewel rate. If its really high, it very easily could mean an end to small crowds for a long time, even if the team doesn't perform well. I think if we win at least 90 games (which I think we'll definitely do), most of the fans will come back to watch us again next season, or at least I would like to think so. It's not like the other product across town ain't doin so well ATM anyways.

    Gmail users

    QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) I have gmail, and I have very little spam get through. There have been a couple lately, but I am sure they are on top of it. In general, I LOVE my gmail. I love the bunching of related emails which really keeps down the inbox clutter. Yeah GMail's great with the spam I get, it generally just goes straight to the Spam Folder. It's just a great E-Mail service in general.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) Was Liriano drafted or signed as a FA? Also what year was he drafted if he indeed was? He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2000. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/L/F...o-Liriano.shtml
  16. I think right now you've got 2 teams in the Blue Jays and the Red Sox who are just going through rough times at the moment, but the lack of quality starting pitching is starting to catch up with both of them. The Yanks need their new pieces to gel in that lineup, but if they can get good starts from the likes of RJ, Wang and Mussina they should take that division.

    QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) I know a number of posters here use gmail, are you noticing a lot of spam not getting blocked? Not really, I have noticed on my Hotmail Account though, the spam has just been crazy on that.
  18. Kenny's Response; 1st the Sun - Times; Now the Daily Herald;
  19. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) I looked at some old prospect lists at BA, and Diaz was ranked as the 5th best prospect in the Giants system in 2002, and liriano wasn't even ranked. In 2003, Diaz was our 8th best prospect and Liriano was the Giants 4th best prospect. So, we might have been able to get him, but I assume he had a really good year in 2002. I forgot who else we got in the 2002 fire sale. I know we got Adkins for Ray (would have been MUCH, MUCH better off getting a first round pick in return). Yeah I don't think anyone on here liked that Durham for Adkins trade when it happened. Certainly in hindsight, I'm sure Kenny wouldn't make that type of deal again, and it was a learning experience for him.
  20. Underrated player: Chase Utley. In a fantasy league I took him in the 2nd round, and someone else thought I was crazy. Has improved each season he's been in the big leagues, and he doesn't get many plaudits, like a Ryan Howard. Underrated manager: Joe Girardi. What that guy has done with their young pitching is quite extrodinary. Underrated General Manager: Terry Ryan. shows how important good young pitching is. Overrated Player: Kerry Wood. Overrated Manager: Felipe Alou. Overrated General Manager: Bill Bavasi. Still living off what he did for the Angels, and has put the Mariners into a terrible position with some of the contracts he has offered. But it was very tempting to throw in Brian Sabean as well.
  21. And I was hoping you were going to say Joe Posnaski from the Kansas City Star for a minute.

    Left field

    QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) I hope Kenny is shooting a little higher than a ~.325 OBP for his leadoff hitter, plus I need a real arm and defender in LF next year and Juan Pierre provides neither. I see Pierre as being more of a lateral move especially considering how much cash Pierre is going to command on the FA market. Yead I'd prefer a David Dellucci type of outfielder (.393 OBP) versus Juan Pierre (.322 OBP), especially when Pierre's more likely to get a better deal this off-season I would say. QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) right right, well Kalapse, who would you suggest? seeing how i've only read up to page 4 of this thread, (that is reasonable). Other options could be Dave Roberts (don't know how he is defensively, I assume he's around Pods territory) but he has an .386 OBP this season for the Pads, Dellucci who I've already outlined, and Garry Matthews Jr. Othwerwise it's pretty slim pickings with the likes of Shannon Stewart also available.
  23. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) I'm an Arielle Kebble and Jessica Alba fan myself. Arielle Kebbel. http://www.maximonline.com/girls_of_maxim/...elleKebbel.girl
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) Whistler just keeps on getting better and better.... Becoming my favorite prospect. Who's Whistler? Anyways 6 K's and only 1 BB for Wes tonight in 8IP with only 1ER given up. He's really making his way up in terms of our SP prospects right now, and it's nice to see him starting to put it together. I still tell you, ever since Jim H. said he was quickman's favorite prospect, Whisler has pretty much dominated.
