  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) Man, you really get hung up on random players I'm still waiting for Chad Tracy. I guess I'm not one to talk, since I'm pretty hung up on Garcia/Vazquez/Pods. Do you know how to get minor leaguers' stats? I've been wondering what guys like Broadway and Haegar are doing. Haha, that's a good observation you've picked up there Milkman. I guess I just get into these phases where I really like a random player for a week or 2. Generally they have to be fairly young or mid age, not have a big contract, and should be fairly attainable. Chad Tracy was one, and he had a good start to the season, so the D-Backs re-signed him to a multi - year deal. But a bad June and July have set him back. He's still off to a good start this month though, and I think he'll be fine in the long run. At the time, I thought he would have been a good option for 1B and let Kong DH, but hey we got Thome, so I ain't complaining. Another guy I liked was Scott Cassidy (as Rowand would attest to, he and Ace generally try to nit-pick these ballplayers). He got demoted to AAA despite having a 2.79 ERA in 37 games for the Padres this season. But now onto Dellucci. I love that OBP of his (.393 now). The guy also knows how to take a walk. Basically I've decribed him as a version of Pods, with a little more power and better defensive capabilities who can play all 3 OF positions. Tell me this. Would you rather have Crawford at the expense of the likes of B-Mac and Broadway, or would you rather sign Dellucci, to give you the flexibility to trade Pods and a starter, so B-Mac can move into the rotation? Unfortunately Dellucci doesn't steal a base, and you know really likes having that speed at the top of the order.
  2. The B test has come back positive as well apparently. Needless to say, he's in BIG trouble.
  3. Is it safe to say if Jon didn't turn it around, our playoff chances would almost be diminished right now? He's been absolutely huge the last couple of months. Suddenly he's a key component of this rotation again.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) I'm impressed so far. It will be interesting to see if these young guys take a step forward next year, or like Cleveland take a big step backwards. There is no doubt there is talent there, and if someone could convince them to expand payroll to add a couple of veteran players, it could put them into a true contender level team. I think assuming Florida hangs onto Willis this off-season, they would continue to improve. They've got better arms than Cleveland did when the likes of Millwood, Rhodes, Riske etc. left at the end of 2005. They've got a great young rotation in Willis, Johnson, Olsen, Nolasco and Sanchez as well.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) I don't think we can trade McCarthy in a deal for Crawford. It's true that Crawford is proven and McCarthy isn't as much, but we'd have absolutely no replacement for Garcia/Vazquez if he were to be traded. And we all know that at least one of them is gone next year. How close is broadway to the show (no pun intended)? Could he possibly be a starter for us next year or good enough to be involved in a deal for Crawford? Yeah I know a lot of people here are gushing over Crawford, and he's a damn good player, but I wouldn't be trading B-Mac as part of a deal for him for the reasons you've said. Frankly what I think is a good idea is to sign a Dellucci, shop Pods to a NL team this off-season (possibly for prospects), and trade Garcia, and let B-Mac take over Freddy's spot in the rotation. Broadway's done pretty well in AA this season, and IIRC he had a real good last outing. I'd like to see what he could do in Charlotte though. He probably could be a decent 5th starter for some teams next season, but I'd like to see him in AAA next season and ready for 2008, when we've got some contracts of the SP's ending like Buehrle's.
  6. I was very glad they didn't trade the likes of Pinto and Vargas for a few months of Alfonso Soriano. I think every baseball fan, for the good of game, would like to see them succeed. I know I certainly do over high payroll franchises like the Mets and Yankees.
  7. If we're comparing OBP's over the past 3 seasons for LF's and SS's, here we go; Podsednik; 04 - .313 05 - .351 06 - .345 Furcal; 04 - .345 05 - .348 06 - .352 Uribe; 04 - .327 05 - .301 06 - .271 Figgins; 04 - .350 05 - .352 06 - .333 Freel; 04 - .375 05 - .372 06 - .390 Rollins; 04 - .348 05 - .338 06 - .329 Dellucci; 04 - .342 05 - .367 06 - .374 Crawford; 04 - .331 05 - .331 06 - .349 I've suddenly jumped on the Dellucci bandwagon personally.
  8. Yeah Kelly Carlson is the only good thing that movie has going for it really.
  9. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 01:10 AM) I pray this will actually do something: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines It's funny how Coop tried that with Contreras, and it basically ruined all of the momentum he had going. Hopefully that doesn't happen here (well Vazquez doesn't have any momentum going does he?). Might as well try anything with him at this stage though.
  10. In the FA thread I basically proposed David Dellucci as a possible option. Having a very good year in Philly, has a very good OBP, can play all 3 OF's positions defensively, but he can't hit lefties just like Pods so he'd have to be platooned. Basically he's a version of Pods with less speed but better defensively with a little more pop. I assume Gillick will try to re-sign him though.
  11. Man Yoo unveiled Michael Carrick today. Will be interesting to see how they actually fare this season with a decent central midfielder in there for a change instead of the likes of John O' Shea, Darren Fletcher etc.
  12. Ok the lowdown on Freddy for tonight. Has a 4.40 ERA in night games, but 5.49 ERA in away games, which is suprising for him. He's actually given up 5 more longballs on the road from 3 less game started compared to at home. So he's gotta keep the ball in the yard basically to have success. Hasn't pitched against the Royals this season so far.
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) The Shins Yeah I've listened to quite a bit of them too ever since Garden State came out. Song I am listening to the most ATM is Where Eagles Have Been by Wolfmother, I know Kid Gleason's a big fan of theirs. There's an excellent guitar riff at the end for about a minute. Definitely worth a listen.
  14. Yeah if there's going to be a replacement in the OF next season it'll come at LF, and it won't be for Jermaine Dye. And there are options which are upgrades over Pods like say a David Dellucci, Gary Matthews Jr. etc. who could fill in that leadoff spot for you.
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) Yeah, Mulder's definitely been real bad this year. Plus, the Sox can't afford to take a chance on a 'reclamation' project. I'd have Mulder as a contingency plan if Kenny wasn't able to pull the trigger on a deal for a guy like Oswalt. FWIW on Roy, the Astros will most likely want a big bat now, so if we wanted to get him, we may have try and turn it into a 3 way deal, which is what Theo Epstein tried to do with the Braves. Also, I think we know it's probably likely that Pods won't be back next season. A guy like David Delucci caught my eye a little. Philly traded Abreu to dump payroll money, but to also allow Delucci to play more. He can hit leadoff and can play all 3 OF positions. Here are his splits from the past 2 seasons in Texas and this season in Philly; 04 - .242/.342/.441 05 - .251/.367/.513 06 - .315/.365/.589 Problem is he can't hit lefties at all, so he's basically a more powerful version of Pods who can probably field better. Hence he would have to be platooned with a guy like Ozuna.
  16. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) Doesn't Mulder have a messed up hip?? I think that is what's causing most of his problems...IMO Shoulder problems;
  17. If there's an opening in our rotation (with B-Mac in it) Mulder would be a guy I'd look at on an incentive laden deal. Yeah he's been terrible this season but he's been hurt. Plus he's an Illinois native, and he has 4 seasons from 01-05 of an ERA under 4.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) I know it's not entirely his fault, but the sooner they get him away from their young prospects, the better. Yeah because it's obviously rubbed off on the likes of Young and Upton hasn't it.
  19. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) Who the hell is Brent Clevlen? OF prospect, and this year's Jeff Francouer possibly?
  20. Liotta got hammered. 5IP, 8R, 2ER, 1BB and 3K's.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) FWIW, the Durham Bulls sent Elijah Dukes home. He's saying he's going to quit...but that will last about as long as a Mick Foley retirement. They'll trade him in the off-season. Can hardly blame the Rays for doing so. He's burnt his bridges there.
