QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) Bobby Abreu? Unless the Sox want to be stuck with a big 3 year contract (think it's 3 cos he has a no trade clause and would want his option picked up, whether it's for 08 or 09 can't remember for sure), I'd look elsewhere. Here's a suggestion from left field, Jimmy Rollins. Contract wise ain't great, but the Phils may be willin to throw in something else to get rid of that.

QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) stats can be thrown out all day long, but everytime there's a man in scoring position and he comes up to bat in a critical situation, I find myself wishing we had Dye at the plate instead. plain and simple.... there's just been too many times when we need to climb back in a game, not when we're up by 5 runs, that we need just a hit from him and he whiffs at the low and away slider from a left handed pitcher, it's basically automatic..... Thome has a .370 BA/RISP with a clutch rating of 8.5 Dye has a .346 BA/RISP with a clutch rating of 1.7. Both great yes, but why the hate on Thome after what he's done this season?

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) I predict a sweep by the Sox. And I'll be very annoyed if we can't do that. Most of the matchups seem to be in our favor, we're at home, time to get back on track.

QUOTE(holly wiggins @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) Two months back the talk was about moving him into the Charlotte Knights lineup. Yeah, there were 2 schools of thought there. Personally I always thought you leave him in there until he produces which he has done. Very hard for a rookie hitter to just come straight in and produce (unless you're Jeff Francouer).

Yeah not good for Harrell at all, 4BB's and 1K. Stll had a 10-2 GB/FB ratio though. Bull had 2 scoreless innings for Mobile as well. Good to see McCullough had a good outing, ERA down to 2.08 now.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) KW still got AJ even though he was a "cancer" so you never know... KW did his research there though. This will what the 3rd team Hillenbrand's left since he's been in the majors now though right?
-
Yikes the Braves only had to give up a fairly average prospect here. Fills their main need, good deal for em.

Who'd have thought we'd actually have this discussion about 2 months back?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) Thome has a bad few games, maybe a bad few weeks, and follows it up with a few games/weeks that are equally good. I'll lay you decent odds he destroys the Rangers this weekend. He absolutely rakes the ball at home. Rally a series we need to sweep or at least win 2 out of 3, and with us facing Koronka and Wasdin, no excuses if we can't do that.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) last year's team pitched better than this years. I'll take this offense over that any day. Yep that's what it boils down to ATM. Still we need to manufacture a run or 2 in these close type of games like today. That means the leadoff hitter needs to get on base more, which didn't happen agains the Tigers.
-
Will probably be up next season I would say. If you want to replace Widger ATM, it would have to come from outside the organisation.
-
Thome also has a 1.150 OPS this month alone, his best so far this year. Thing is, only a .747 OPS against lefties, which was always going to be the problem with him.
-
Nice job there Josh. Always good to hear about our prospects.
-
Torrealba would be ideal, because IIRC the Rockies have a catcher who's just raking down at AAA, so hence it would probably be a good time for them to move him.
-
Ozzie just needs to call a clubhouse meeting or something and just get them to wake up a little. As for the replacing Widger as a backup catcher calls, couldn't agree more.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) If only he played center and left field... And yet even if that was the case I doubt KW would want him because of his "clubhouse" issues.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Oh please. 10 reasons why you should not go for Bolton; 1. They play ugly football 2. They don't play any young players 3. They have an ugly manager 4. They have a fat manager 5. They play the most boringest style of football, unless you find long balls to the striker exciting. 6. They hardly play any English players. 7. They play to survive and not to win. 8. Jay - Jay Okocha no longer plays for them. 9. Players like Dieter Hamann leave without even playing 1 minute for the club. 10. A plain white strip is dreary and boring. Just like Bolton. Now 10 reasons why you SHOULD go for West Ham; 1. They play an attractive, attacking style of football. 2. Most of the team is made up of domestic English players. 3. West Ham have developed players such as Michael Carrick and Joe Cole. 4. They have a better, bigger stadium than Bolton. 5. They have better rivalries against the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham than Bolton. 6. West Ham will be playing in the Uefa Cup this season. Bolton will not. 7. West Ham made the F.A Cup last season. 8. "We'll be blowing bubbles" is a far better club song than anything Bolton has to offer. 9. Dean Ashton and Marlon Harewood are better than any strikers Bolton has to offer. 10. And finally, West Ham's colours of Claret and Blue are far better than Bolton's, hence much better jerseys.

Do you think your groundball tendencies will put you above other SP prospects in the system, considering U.S Cell is a big HR Park? What's been the main reason for your success at W-S this season? What pitches do you have in your arsenal, and which is your best pitch, your strikeout pitch? Which other SP have you been impressed with down at Winston - Salem? Who's the toughest minor league hitter you've had to face this season?

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) Yeah, that Simmons article was a great read for a newcomber like me, but that doesn't mean I'm going with who he says. I haven't decided yet. I thought I liked Chelsea until I read about how they spend a ton of money too like Man United, so now I don't know. Anyway, one team I know for sure that I'll root for is Benfica in the Portuguese SuperLiga. I love that team! Fine I'll pick for you, go for West Ham.

QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Has Fields played in the outfield in Triple A this year? If not, what are they waiting for? Because if you make a move now, it possibly ruins his trade value a little, and I guess since we don't know for sure if Pods is going to be back or not, the Sox Brass just don't want to make a move yet. Something could happen contract wise with Joe Crede as well with Bora$$ as his agent.

So who do you fear the most? 3 headed monster....
DBAHO replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Right now the Tigers obviously, but I'm still keepin a close eye on Minny. Long - term if I had to pick 1 out of the 3 it would be the Twins. A future rotation of Santana, Liriano, Garza, Baker and Perkins scares the hell out of me. -
Alex, is this Thread Title your attempt at rapping or something?

I always had faith that JG would eventually turn it around. Unlike say Freddy Garcia's problems, they weren't physical. He was still throwing at the same velocity etc. But he's such a control pitcher and it's critical he doesn't leave balls up in the zone and he can locate that changeup for a strike. And he seems to be doing those things now. Gives me hope that Vazquez will turn it around also, since all of his problems are mental and not physical either.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Add in Broadway maybe and see if the Sox minor league pitchers match up with any teams that have bullpen guys available. Philly may. Philly and Pittsburgh are probably the 2 teams KW will target. Philly has Gordon, Rhodes and Cormier, all who have been rumored to be possibly dealt at the deadline, while the Pirates have Torres and Hernandez, although it seems the Yanks may end up with Roberto very, very soon. Considering the Phillies lack of SP in the minors and in general, that's probably our best chance of a deal, and KW and Gillick have traded before.
