QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) I'd be happy with taking 2/3. We basically did that all of last year in alot (and I mean ALOT) of series. Yep that was the model for success last season, and I'd like to see our success rate for how many 2 for 3's we took last season actually. Let's hope Jose can get it done on the mound. Lee hasn't had a good ST, and hopefully we can get onto him.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) Is there anything better than a Ludens Throat Drop? I mean, I like the Halls Fruit Breezers as well, but that classic cherry flavor can't be topped. We've got things called Stepsils down here for that. I prefer the Orange Flavor myself.

Florida aren't going to win a lot of games this season, I think a lot of teams know that. But they're not exactly going to roll over and die either. Their pitching isn't that bad, and if guys like Willingham and Jacobs can produce for them, things look a lot better for them.

Having seen Freddy Garcia for a season and a half now, you know he's going to go through these type of "flat spots" during the season. It happened last season around August when teams like the Royals were hitting him hard. And as I think Greasy said before, when the conditions get hotter and he can start to work up a sweat, he should be better. Is it a concern? Absolutely, you'd love to have all of your SP's rolling from day one. But it ain't something that we should lose sleep over. Let's just hope, there's nothing wrong with his arm, and he's just going thru a bit of a "dead arm" period.

Let's chalk up another one in the win column today boys!!!!

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Love it, he will deny he ever said it. Guess Jeff Bajenaru isn't so bad after all.

Let's just hope Thome doesn't go for a Nintendo Swing at each AB (yes I know it's bad).

Ana Ivanovic and Maria Kirilenko.

Interesting thoughts here; Right now, if Vazquez improves as most people expect, Garcia looks the odd man out, if we're going to trade a SP. But I still have reservations on whether Jon Garland can keep improving on his 2005 year, which could gives us an option after this off-season. And yet this is what most people thought of him BEFORE Spring Training. If he keeps doing what he did tonight, we'll be rapt with him. But I think we should expect a high number of K's like Aaron Rowand had last season with him.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) That certainly never happned last year. And that not only comes from the addition of Thome, but guys like Juan Uribe being more patient down the lower part of the order. And if hitters like Paul Konerko can produce a better BA/RISP, our offense will flourish from it.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) The Tribe has a bullpen. They just happened to suck tonight (well, Graves does suck). Fernando Cabrera is not that bad but he sure s*** his pants Marte-style tonight. Cabrera's been absolutely horrible since he came back from the WBC. We caught him at a good time tonight. And yeah the Tribe has a pen. But is it as good as last year's without Howry (2.47 ERA ), Rhodes (2.08 ERA), and Riske (3.10 ERA). I don't think so, which is one of the reasons why I don't think they can win more than 90 games this season.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 12:30 AM) Remember the broken-foot panic? THAT was f***ing scary. Mark is Mr. Reliable. A year is a LONG time in Baseball ain't it.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) The time switch is already messing with my mind. Extra hour's sleep in for me. Oh and I finally quit my crappier 2nd job today! YAY!!!!

Carlos Lee To Cubs Deal Imminent?????
DBAHO replied to South Side Fireworks Man's topic in The Diamond Club
If Doug Melvin could get that deal straight up for Lee, he's a very, very good GM. Murton would be an excellent OF for them for the next 5 - 10 years. And really it makes sense. The Brewers are at the stage where they're close to contending, but if they can get some great young talent for a player who's probably not going to be with them 12 months from now, they should do it. -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Our bench is loaded. Owens is best served getting more experience in AAA. ^^. Will be interesting to see how he does moving from a pitcher's park in B-Ham to a hitters park in Charlotte, and how it affects his power numbers etc.

Carvajal sounds good. A young guy, 5.09 ERA for the Rockies last season in 39 games. He had a 1.88 ERA in high A ball the year before. And the rest are coming thick and fast; Andrade is 27, but had a 1.97 ERA in AA last season. And he doesn't walk a lot of guys. Still like acquiring Peralta over him if we get the chance though. Ramirez is 25, had a 3.91 ERA in 16 games for the Rangers last season. Not a big strikeout guy though.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) Help me settle a debate. Garland and Contreras were both signed this off season. What's the soonest either could be traded? Ask Bronson Arroyo. Another good move here by KW, although you feel a little for Brandon McCarthy right now, who's probably not going to be a pernament fixture in this rotation for a little while. If Contreras performs as he did in the 2nd half of 05, it's a great deal. If he doesn't, we're stuck with a long - term deal. I'm confident the former will happen.

I had the Cookies and Cream Ben and Jerry's at the BOB last year. For $5, I thought it was pretty overrated.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) Yeah teams like Toronto and Charlotte even though sucking arent too far away. The Raptors will have 3 really good players starting in Bosh, Villanueva, and James... add that in with a high draft pick prob immediate impact player and they can make some noise. Than all Charlotte needs is Okafur to stay healthy and a SG in the draft. I really like the look of Charlotte for next season as well. They'll get Okafor back like you said, but they'll also get Sean May as well. With May, Okafor, Brezec and Ely, that's 4 very capable bigs right there. Gerald Wallace has turned into a roto stud this season, so they're set at SF. Felton and Knight are 2 real good PG's, so they're set there. They just need that upgrade at SG like you've said. And it might be worth trading say their 1st pick for J.R Smith and the Hornets 2 1st rounders at 14 and 15, because it's going to be hard to pick a SG if they get a pick in the top 3. Toronto will be interesting to watch this off-season with Bryan Colangelo in charge. Mike James has turned into a real good PG for them. But Colangelo likes his PG's to be distributors, and James ain't exactly a pass first point guard, plus he's probably headed to the Knicks for the MLE this off-season if Larry Brown sticks around. But I like what they're building in Raptor Land, if they can keep Bosh around for the long - term. I probably should mention the Hawks as well. They really need a pass first point guard, so they can move Johnson to SG. But if Al Harrington leaves this off-season, do you go after a big in the draft like Aldridge to replace him, and try and fill your PG need in the off-season? Zaza Pachulia's turned into a fairly capable center for them (thank you John Weisbrod for leaving him unprotected in the expansion draft) as well.

Joel Peralta may not make the Royals bullpen after all. I don't know what's the situation with him in terms of the 40 man and options, but if he becomes available the Sox should really look into acquiring him.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) I'm not expert on the Bulls, but I would think a draft of Rodney Carney and then Patrick O'Bryant would be very solid. Palehose can you tell me a bit about O'Bryant. I've seen him been compared to Brad Daughtery on nbadraft.net. Probably makes sense for a team like the Raptors who desperately need a good big. The Magic won their 7th in a row at home against the Mavs today. And it'll just be real annoying if we miss out on the playoffs, because the way we're playing right now, I reckon we could cause some higher ranked teams a lot of trouble. Getting rid of Steve Franics has actually created BALL MOVEMENT for this offense (even Scott Skiles said it himself), and coupled with the improvement we've had in defense, we're actually winning games. Just upgrade from DeShawn Stevenson at SG with say Brandon Roy, and this team can go places next season. And the East will be real interesting to watch next season. Chicago will be much improved from the additions they're gonna get. You think Toronto if they can re-sign James and get a good big should continue to do so as well.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) I agree. I'm banking on Coop' being able to turn Thornton around. It looks as if he's already having an impact on him. And Logan, atleast for now, appears to be for real. I'm not worried about the other guys. If he does, the most important thing for the short - term future of this ballclub is to get Don Cooper locked up to a new long - term deal. IIRC, his deal runs out at the end of 2006, and there always is the possibility of him returning to the Yanks. But hopefully KW is already working on that extension as we speak.
