  1. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) Tracy's OBP is pretty low, and if we're giving up our good starting pitching I'd rather get a more complete hitter. Also, Tracy is a 1B (or RF) and dealing Garland only makes sense if the priority is to re-sign Konerko. With Konerko at 1B, where would we play Tracy? I'd call Tracy a pretty complete hitter. Our main weakness for our offense for this season was against righties. Tracy is a lefty hitter who had splits of .324/.370/.582 against righties this season. Compare that to say Paul Konerko who's our main offensive threat and his .290/.373/.522 splits against righties. OBP to me won't be that important with Tracy anyway. He'll be in a run producing spot, and an .911 OPS looks godly there compared to Carl Everett and his .745 OPS. Tracy would DH even if Konerko re-signed. He also gives you the versatility to play 3B/LF if needed, which would seriously improve our rotations of the lineup.
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) with few SP's available around the league, why should the sox mess with the success they have had? no dealing their SP's With B-Mac waiting in the wings, one starter (most likely El Duque) won't be around in 2006. Pitching has been our strength, no doubt about that, but if you significantly improve your offense, and sign a replacement for the guy you trade (even though he probably won't put as good numbers), the net gain will be greater in my mind. Of course if you could just trade prospects instead of dealing from your rotation, that'd be even better.
  3. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) I'd keep them both, but if I had to pick I'd always keep the younger guy. And I wouldn't deal either for Chad Tracy or Lyle Overbay. Young players who make $335,000 who can hit .308 (27HR)/.359/.553 are very valuable around the league. Of course a possible scenario is this, El Duque and Garland could be dealt, and KW could try to sign a Japanese pitcher like he did with Iguchi last off-season, but that's unlikely to happen. That said, Garland and Jose's value are the highest they've ever been. Looking at Jon's stats, he's decreased his walks by about 30, but still only struck out 115 batters. Now I know K'ing batters isn't the end all to be all, but it does help, and JG gives up the long ball more than say Mark Buerhle who also doesn't K a lot of hitters. It's one of the more interesting scenarios waiting in the off-season.
  4. Another thought on Garland, I know everyone expects to re-sign him to a deal this off-season, but if it came down to a choice b/w dealing Jose Contreras or Jon Garland for an excellent offensive piece like a Chad Tracy or Lyle Overbay etc. who would you deal? Personally even though he's younger, I'd deal Garland if the right offer came along, and I know I've changed my tune on that, but I don't think you can trade Jose after what he's done in the 2nd half. But we may just keep both and dump El Duque on someone anyways.

    Jersey

I got my jersey last month for my b-day, authentic home uniform, and the folks chucked in a White Sox Jacket while they were at it. And YAS's idea is a good one, if that indeed happens, which we all hope it does.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) He has 2 games experience in the NHL and leads the league in points. Not bad for a defenseman is it.
  7. And Kotex Boy gets another little jab in at JR and the Cell;
  8. If Contreras is going to start game 1, I hope Garland has been getting some work and will continue to do so in the next couple of days. It's a really big call to make though. Personally, I'd go with Contreras.
  9. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) I thought Uribe was represented by Boras also? He was. He changed agents just before he signed his 3 year deal last off-season.
  10. Definite advantage. Our pitchers will be nice and fresh, especially our bullpen, and we can setup our rotation the way we want for the series, while our hitters get a couple of rest days, which we didn't have many of in September, while the Yanks and Angels are using up their pitchers.

    Neal Cotts

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) You're preaching to the choir here, dbaho. I know, I know. Cotts just seems to be the most under utilized reliever, when he's one of our best, because he hasn't been here before, and he doesn't have the experience. Doesn't stop Bobby Jenks.
  12. Something that's going to be very crucial in this upcoming series is the use of the bullpen, going with the right pitcher at the relevant time. Neal Cotts was used in game 1, and he got the job done. If there is ever a situation that calls for a lefty to come up to get an out, bring up Cotts, but don't let him face just that 1 batter, leave him in there for an inning at least. Marte shouldn't be used, and right now is borderline to make the playoff roster or not. The Angels and Yankees have some good lefty sluggers, so Cotts will certainly be needed.
  13. Reminder guys the draft is on tonight, and we've got all 12 teams signed up so we're good to go.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Hunter Hillenmeyer is not a "good" linebacker, he's mediocre, average at best. Lavarr Arrington would push this Bears defense to a whole new level. Our holes on D right now are OLB, S and at times DT. You are right though the Bears would look into a WR or a TE long before they'd look at a LB simply because of how good their defense is compared to their offense. Well Arrington right now isn't contributing very well for the Skins, hence why they are considering cutting him. He's not doing a good job stopping the run, and just wants to rush the passer all day. Granted Hillemeyer ain't on the level of Urlacher and then Briggs, but it's not a gaping hole that the Bears need to fill. DT I think you got a pretty good rotation in there with Harris / Johnson / Scott, better than other teams in the NFL for sure. And I really think the Bears need a Witten/Gates/Shockey at TE, it'd take their passing attack to a whole new level, and really open up the field for whoever is the QB.
  15. QUOTE(Jake @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Who DID create this board anyway? Some geek out in California.
  16. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:45 AM) Don't the Angels have Darin Erstad with another year on his contract? Granted, he sucks, but it's still a good amount of money to have sitting on your bench. EDIT: This is re: the PK discussion. Right now the Angels have players in Erstad, Juan Rivera, Casey Kotchman etc. who aren't good contribute the offensive numbers that Konerko would put up. Granted they should just let Kotchman DH if Anderson is going to play the field, but they do need another power bat in there besides Vlad. Erstad's OPS is pretty terrible for a 1B as well.
  17. How important were those 3 outs?
  18. The skins are already screwed Cap Wise, releasing LaVar would only increase the pressure there. And the Bears already have 3 good LB's and don't need to upgrade there. G/WR/TE and a S is where they need to upgrade.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) Having Duque and his sliders in the bullpen basically eliminates any reason to keep Viz on the team. Struggles or not, I'd rather have Marte coming in to face someone like G. Anderson than I would Viz. It really highlights the need for a lefty LOOGY though especially if Marte is traded this off-season, which most of us expect to happen.
  20. The Excuse-O-Meter out of Boston must be going off the charts right now.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) I'm fairly confident that PK won't sign with another AL Central team. He's a classy player, and if he leaves, I think it will either be for the Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, or Angels. I think it's going to come down to the Angels, Dodgers, my wildcard team the Padres and us, JMHO. Paulie's said before he doesn't see himself on an East Coast Team.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) PK's contract is rising nearly every week. It worries me that I think some big time payroll teams will go all out for him. It will basically boil down to whether or not PK wants to stay with the White Sox, or he'll go to the highest bidder. After reading what Rowand said this week, PK is definitely the team leader of the Sox. Yeah, I've got no doubts teams will be offering him a Richie Sexson like deal, and I was reading some rumors tonight about Detroit and even Minny (very unlikely) possibly getting into the bidding for him. Right now if we can get him locked down for 4/44, I'd take it, but it all depends on whether Paulie's willing to give up some cash to stay at the team where's he's pretty much the leader as you said.
  23. IIRC, in one of Phil Rogers articles this week, he was saying we should get about 2M from this series, 4M from the upcoming series, and 5M from the World Series if we make it. I think most of that money will go into re-signing Konerko and the raises for Jon and A.J though. But it's good we'll see increases in ticket sales etc. hopefully as well. That can only help.
  24. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) I absolutely love Family Guy and thought the movie was really subpar. I'm talking, REALLY subpar. Didn't like it one bit. Was it the Peter Griffin purring like a Walrus, or Chris talking about how his underpants rode the right way that sunk this movie down the toilet?
