QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) The defender had Bradley wrapped up in a bear hug practically....who did he actually call the foul on? I think he gave it on Bocanegra. I haven't heard the British Commentators talk about off-side with that decision, and it's been replayed a few times.

Referee's from Mali I believe they just said. Well at least he's consistent.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) I watched that play 3 or 4 time and the ball never changes direction at all so if it hit his hand it barely touched it if it touched at all. Either way the ref should be absolutely ashamed. It doesn't really matter all that much to the ref if the ball doesn't change direction that much so long as he sees that it made contact with the hand. Anywhere else on the field it's probably play on, but because it was in the attacking team's box he's probably more likely to give it, even if it wasn't deliberate. I think most of the players had stopped anyways so it wasn't definite that the US would have scored there.

Bet the Slovenian left back is feeling good after that.

Eh it was a handball so probably a foul, but not a yellow card obviously, but the refs are pretty pedantic on anything in the penalty box like that against the attacking team. I just don't think the US have enough up front to score more than once in the 2nd half. Dempsey and Donovan need to get much more involved for them to have any chance.

Crazy Like Fox
This little run certainly has made the Teahen trade and subsequent 3 year contract seem like a good deal now doesn't it.

¡Viva la Revolución!
Interesting move considering his plate discipline has been pretty bad (52/8 K/BB ratio IIRC) for Charlotte this season. Hopefully though he'll get quite a few AB's at 3B/1B/DH/OF for the rest of the season to get him used to major league pitching as soon as possible. Jones and Kotsay should both be very much expendable from here on out.

That referee single handledy ruined the game. The Klose sending off was farcical. 3 fouls now equals 2 yellows? The 2nd yellow wasn't even close to a card. That said, Germany still should have gotten at least a point if not all 3 from their 2nd half performance. Podolski was terrible, 7 shots, 1 missed penalty. Serbia weren't too convincing, and there's a possibility we could get a result against them based on their form so far, but we need to beat Ghana tomorrow night to have any hope.

If Serbia play an off-side trap against Germany, they're screwed. Gotta have a defensive midfielder man marking Ozil also. Germany to win 2-0.

They are going to play Brand at center, and draft Turner at 2 for the SG spot. Collins has always liked Nocioni though. The Amare to Miami rumors are gathering pace.

Mason would be a guy I'd look at also if you couldn't bring Niemi back. There's rumors that Nathan Horton is going to leave Florida also, so they could be in the market for some replacement forwards (Sharp, Versteeg etc.) possibly.

Yep the red card was more for the intent than the actual contact, stupid by the Nigerian player to actually do that though, cost his team the game no doubt. France win tonight if Anelka doesn't play up front.

Peavy has fluid in his shoulder
Well news like this was eventually bound to happen after his slow start. Hopefully it's only something like a dead arm, something that I guess that Buehrle has had to deal with over the years when he's struggled. Certainly doesn't boost Peavy's trade value (if he actually had any) though.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) I don't think they needed help threading the pass. They needed someone to finish. Torres for 90 is what they needed. They still didn't really have any clear cut chances. Sure they had lots of shots on goals, but no chances where you thought, oh man they should have scored there. I would have put Fabregas on for Busquets and played Alonso deeper myself. They are obviously taking things slowly with Torres as he was injured at the end of the EPL season. Also so much for my South Africa prediction.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) I thought the Spanish team was probably the best in the world and they just got beat in a game they dominated... Wow I wouldn't right them off yet, they should have scored a few times today. They just need to get Torres match fit ASAP, so they can play Villa wide on the left where he belongs in that 4-5-1 Barcelona formation they use.

Beckham needs to be sent down
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) If people really believe the season is over, the last person we need to send down is Gordo. It depends if you think he's going to learn more fighting through his struggles at the major league level, or getting on a hot streak down at AAA. I'd probably lean towards the former. Remember how much Aaron Rowand struggled for his 1st season or 2 when he first came up for the Sox.

Can't believe they didn't use Fabregas at all. That sort of game, he is the perfect player to use to thread a pass through, he pretty much has to put up with opposing teams doing that against Arsenal most weeks. Chile won't be easy for Spain to beat after today also, so they're in a bit of trouble right now.

Steve Kerr leaving the Suns. Sarver certainly is quite the tight-arse owner. I'm sure Kerr will get another GM job if he wants it. He'll probably replace Doug Collins on TNT though for next season. Also probably improves the chances of Amare leaving I'd say.
