  1. Remember that discussion we were having when Bears supporters were trying to pump up Krenzel because he won 3 straight games? Well that didn't work out so good did it.
  2. The Jay Mariotti School of Thought: Ken Griffey Jr. makes over $10 million a season!!! He is great!!!! JR wouldn't want him though. Joe Randa makes $3,000,000 this season. Meh, the Sox can do better.
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) 9, wasn't it? IIRC yeah it was. Let's hope it's nothing like that again.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) If there is one it is expected to hit SF at 9:23 Pacific, 11:23 central. Yikes, I know some of my Dad's workmates were in San Francisco over the weekend, not sure if they are still there.
  5. Ok glad I'm gonna be at LAX next week and not this week.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) The only guy that was an option when we signed Duque was Milton, and that was never going to happen. Besides the win total (which has more to do with the Sox than Duque this year), his numbers are pretty much on par with the mediocre numbers you posted. Good job with the stats though, they come in handy for these friendly disagreements And Duque's making almost half of what those guys are making this season. In the inflated off-season market for starting pitchers, the Sox did very well to get El Duque for that price in the first place. With all the problems we had with our 5th starters over the past few seasons, if you had asked if El Duque would have won 7 games in mid June, would you take it? Of course you would. He's a second half pitcher as well, even though I haven't been pleased with his last few starts.
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Is Kevin Walker going to come up again? I'd prefere Jon Adkins. Jeff Freakin Bajenaru.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) Celsius :headshake Degrees, Celsius it's all good.
  9. This strike zone Vazquez has got so far tonight is quite unbelieveable.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) Trust me, I don't want Brandon "Ruffcorn" McCarthy called up anytime soon. I don't recall which pitchers were available when we signed Duque....but no one outside of the Sox PR machine thought it was a good move. With his age, arm injuries, and flyball tendencies, he was a disaster waiting to happen at the Cell. For that reason, I'm content with what he's given us so far. However, I don't see anyway that we can expect Duque to turn it around the rest of the season. He got unbelievably lucky at the beginning of the season getting out of the jams he did. It was just a matter of time for him to start giving up a lot of crooked numbers. Ok well let's compare El Duque to some other pitchers who got bigger deals this off-season. Jaret Wright: 2-2, 9.15 ERA, 13 K's, 9 BB's Russ Ortiz: 4-5, 5.45 ERA, 32 K's, 41 BB's Odalis Perez: 4-4, 4.50 ERA, 32 K's, 10 BB's Eric Milton: 3-8, 7.97 ERA, 44 K's, 23 BB's Jon Lieber: 8-4, 4.61 ERA, 47 K's, 19 BB's
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) I didn't like the Duque signing, and still dont. I'm just happy though that we got a solid 1/3 of the season out of him. It's more of a contribution that I figured we'd get from him. So I ask again. Who should we have signed instead for $8 million over 2 years? B-Mac is not ready, he's still giving up homers at an alarming rate down at Charlotte.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) f*** this. Duque f***ing blows. We'd be better off with him on the DL. We're going to need a new 5th starter. Like B-Mac who's not ready? Duque's won 7 games, he's not getting replaced.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) If Duque can finish the season with an ERA under 5 and end up with 12 wins, I'll be very surprised and thrilled with what he contributed. He's been so incredibly lucky to have the record and ERA he has this season. He's benefit the most from Ozzie liking to keep his starter in so long. Who should we have signed instead for $8 million over 2 years?
  14. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) I never supply the inside scoop...damn it You tried you best, and you failed miserably. The lesson is: "never try."
  15. I had my 2 finals today, 2 down, 2 to go. And then 40 degree weather for 3 weeks.
  16. Are YOU getting your 5 vegetables a day?
  17. Time for some merging. (Gotta earn my keep if I want to rent out at that pool at the BOB in a week and a half ya know).
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) Of course if Kotex boy had actually paid attention to the man who controlls the purse strings he would have heard JR say that there is more money to be added to payroll. Then again that would have involved things such as research, and fact, which don't belong there at all... But of course when we do upgrade, Kotex Boy will be out the next day spreading his propaganda; "Why didn't he get this guy. He makes an extra $5 million, so he's automatically better!!! JR is cheap!!!"
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) I'm guessing that at this point adding payroll is not an option. I am guessing again that as long as we are in first place, JR isn't going to be too quick to increase dollars. Probably depends on the type of player and how much payroll has to go up. Of course there's other factors like attendance going up in the summer etc. I doubt Lugo is going to put us over the top anyways. A guy like Joe Randa however........
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) My dad loves the place but I think its the most god awful ballpark in baseball (write there with Fenway and the Twinkie dome). Haven't been to Tropicana but everyone says that place stinks too. Just an ugly stadium and they have some awful awful fans (not the diehards, but the casual fans and they get a ton of em). I hope Edison isn't as bad..............
  21. What is Widger's CERA for everyone else other than Contreras though? But after seeing that, there's no doubt AJ should catch Jose's games as much as possible, although Widger has still done a very good job with the other guys.
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) They would deal Hillenbrand at the deadline if they fall out of contention. He is a free agent after this season. Riccardi will probably try to resign him first though. There aren't a whole lot of good FA's out there this off-season, hence the holding on to your own comes into play.
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) I'm not jacked at all about Crede. I think Juan is the one to be excited about. He was taking all sorts of pitches over the weekend that he would have flailed away at in the absence of Frank Thomas. But with the Big Hurt in his ear after every AB, he's taking first pitch almost every time now. He also went oppo twice today. He's about to go on a tear. That wouldn't suprise me at all regarding Uribe, he was due to come around at some point this season after April. Uribe's splits are still hard to follow though. He's great against lefties, suck against righties (as does most of our team), but is hitting way better away than at the Cell still. If he does go on a tear though, the Sox brass could think about moving him up the order possibly.
