  1. Sox go down in that half inning. Lohse only has 2 more pitches than Hernandez despite the fact he's pitched an extra inning, something to keep an eye on. Lohse has 37, El Duque with 35.
  2. So far so good for the Sox, with Willie scoring. El Duque looks good too getting Ford to fly out to end the inning.
  3. Here are the links, it's nice to have these threads again (the minorleaguebaseball site is really slow and choppy right now); Charlotte lost to Columbus 11-10. Adkins had a shocker giving up 7ER's. Anderson, Becker and Ben Davis all homered. Munoz gave up 3 ER in relief and Borch had 2 hits in the cleanup spot. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...colaaa_chraaa_1 Kanny beat 4-0 like Dan said. Gio with an excellent outing with 8 K's and no ER. Joshua Hansen homered for the Intimidators, Clint King DH'ed and went 1-4 with 2 K's and 1R. Adam Ricks went 0-4, and Francisco Hernandez went 0-4 with 2 K's. Jeffrey Little and Matthew Zaleski pitched scoreless innings of relief. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...ashafx_kanafx_1

  5. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 05:35 AM) "I vant to suck yo blood!" Before today's performance, I guess we could have substituted pay check instead of blood, but hey whatever's working.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) I disagree about Vizcaino, I thought he pitched very well. He pitched an inning and a third yesterday then he came back today pitched another inning and a third before he got hit in his next inning, the guy's arm was no doubt tired, it's the third game of the season and he got ran out there a lot the last two days. To tell you the truth right now there isn't a relief pitcher I feel more comfortable with then Viz. As far as Shingo goes, he had a bad day, that's all, his pitches were up and out over the plate and he got hit, next time we need a save he'll shut 'em down. I didn't see the game so I'm just going on the numbers, but Ozzie shouldn't have wasted all of our bullpen pitchers before he got to Luis. I guess there's always going to be the question how he fares at the Cell considering he's a flyball pitcher.
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) It would help if Joe Crede becomes a stud hitter. If not ... we coulda got Randa for what, 3 mill? Does anybody know what Randa earns? Joe Crede's emergence or lack of it, could be vital to whether our smallball attack is really small. Should we have picked up Randa? I've said reguarly during the off-season, that if Joe Crede struggles, Joe Randa will probably the guy we'll go after. He only signed a 1 year $3 mill deal IIRC, plus Josh Fields could be ready next season, but that's doubtful. And Joe could hit .280-.290 for us which would be a welcome return from 3B.

Contreras showed today what he can do when he doesn't have runners on, that'll probably be the key for him. Pods and Iguchi seem to be laying down a good platform at the top of the order, but the lower part in Crede, Uribe and Rowand need to pick it up in order for this team to be much better offensively. Getting Frank back will be a huge plus as well. Shingo and Vizcaino well definitely worrying today, but I was glad to see Politte pitch well and Hermanson as well, you could say those two have some question marks on them a little.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) Crede still sucks. And you jumped to that conclusion after only 3 games. At least give him a month, before you start ragging on him.

    Rosters

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Brice is not on Bham's roster. Ok thanks for clearing that up Rex. That's disappointing for Tom, especially after he made their playoff roster last season. Another hot start like he did in Kanny last season, and he'll could be up with the Barons sooner rather than later, depending on what happens with the outfielders up there.
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) There is some criticism of the change in style and how well that style change was carried out that would be interesting and informative. Dropping someone like Jose for a higher average would fit a get on base, move runners, approach. But Lee has a higher average than Pods and Maggs had a higher average than Dye. Dropping average and power doesn't seem to fit. If he wants to criticism why the team changed focus, it seems kind of a non issue. Money, chances of winning, etc. doesn't make a difference to most of his readers. If he wants to debate if they did a good job of changing to a small ball team, more people will be interested. Unfortunately, by now, when he does hit a home run with his analysis, it isn't taken seriously. This is probably his weakest effort to date. Reads as very petty and childish. And this is coming from someone who actually enjoys some of his columns. Maggs may have had a higher average than Dye, but Dye was hitting in Oakland at a pitchers park, while now let's see how Maggs will handle hitting and fielding in the spacious confines of Comerica. Like I've said before, I'm happy with the makeover of this team. I'd rather have a lineup of 9 guys who are extremely hard to get out (right now Crede would be the weak link), than 3 to 4 guys in the middle of your lineup, who go cold on the road, while you have others like Valentin who posted sub .300 OBP's. I know that isn't fair on Maggs, Valentin etc. because they produced, but the Sox found some better options, and some cheaper ones, meaning we were able to fill more important holes, such as starting pitching and our bullpen pitching.
  12. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Hmm.. raise ticket prices by about 25% .. and wow you can increase the payroll by about 25%.. When I got my season tix in 03, they were about 1400.. The next year they wanted 1650...do It was only a 18% increase in 04..Now this also doesn't take into account the increase in parking, concession stand, and beer prices.. and wow.. there comes the increase in payroll. Still The owners are not putting anything into this team..We are..Until the owners show they that care as much about this team as we do I don't see us getting any top FA.. down the line.. I still think Mags is right.. they don't care about winning, they care about money. Let's go from the Kotex Boy view here - Sports Owners should be in it to win, and not care about wasting money and making losses. A Business Person - You want to get a return on your investment. And the increases in concessions, you can put that down to inflation. If payroll keeps rising the way it is, in 3 years we could have over $100 million. And Maggs is just pissed he didn't get his original deal, even though it was the right decision to let him go.
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) Worst bang for the buck...Phillies? Ed Wade's skating on very thin ice, and it won't be easy in that division either.

    Rosters

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) Another name I didn't see is Thomas Brice. Is he headed back to Winston as well? IIRC I thought he was headed to B-Ham, but with Young and Sweeney up there, he may have to possibly DH.
  15. I still believe Dye will have more HR's than Maggs as well this season, which is pretty damn good considering, he's making less than half of Ordonez's salary.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) Man, that is just scary. You hate to see something like that to anyone. I really hope the guy is alright. Especially after everything he's gone thorugh in his career and the off-season. He must think he's cursed or something.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) I predict close to 80 hr's between the two of them this season. I'd doubt that. Dye would probably hit around 30 HR's I'd say, sumwhere in b/w 25 and 35 I'd be pleased him, so long as he can about .280, and cut down on the K's. Konerko should have about 40 again, but he doesn't have as much protection in the lineup as last season, but it shouldn't affect him greatly.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Assuming Williamson falls to 11, which I don't see. If he goes past Minny at #7, the Cowboys will be in a good position to draft him, assuming Washington passes on him for a defensive player like a CB.

1989 Honda Prelude. I suddenly feel old and cheap.
  20. Ok that's over with, now time for my 2 hour tax lecture. Yippee.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Ad hits...1 point lead with 1.4 seconds left. I guess a loss here would eliminate the Magic from the playoffs? 6 of the 7 teams they play are ranked above them. They won't make it, and Hill's gonna be shut down for the season anyway.
  22. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) i guess pass isnt in francis dictionary. who you give the ball to hinrich gordon or someone else? You'd find his picture under dribbling and ball hog though. He's actually played pretty good tonight though.
