  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) This isn't necessarily what will really happen, it's what Soxtalk members vote will happen. Rodgers got the most votes, so, he was the 49ers pick. If only you started the poll a day later though Knight.
  2. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) If the Dolphins get Edge, then that changes EVERYTHING! Miami is just under the cap as it is, how are they going to fit an Edgerrin James with a long - term deal in there?
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) i wouldnt book Rodgers to San Fran yet after Alex Smith's recent workout which was supposedly amazing. Yeah after today, I think if they go QB it'll be Smith.
  4. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) By the way, I never said I expected much in a trade for just Davis. If we traded Davis we could also package guys like Willie, Borchard, Adkins, or Diaz with him. And you still wouldn't get much from him. Another team's trash isn't another's team gold unforunately.
  5. Gus is going to be the starter down there, Scott Linehan loves him. Much to Drew Rosenhaus's despair, the Dolphins will select Ronnie Brown.
  6. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) It was a joke, duder. Take it sleazy. Just don't forget the green font next time ok.
  7. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) Robby Hammock has to first recover from surgery on his torn labrum last month and Fordyce nearing retirement since no team is interested in him. At least give some better examples than those two guys. Ben Davis is NOT going to put Pittsburgh over the top, so why give up some talent for him anyways? At least Hammock when he comes back in about 3 months, will put up better numbers, and will come cheaper.
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Ben Davis is making only $1 million. Only. Of course lets not bring in the fact that Machowiak can play 3 more different positions than Davis, and has far superior numbers. But I guess the Pirates Owner is that stingy, he's dying to save $500,000.
  9. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Why not? Benito Santiago is 40 and Cota isn't a top prospect or anything. And J.R. House is gone. Ben Davis - .231, 6 HR's, 16 RBI's in 54 games. Benito Santiago - .274, 6 HR's, 23 RBI's in 49 games. If Rob Machowiak is expensive for $1.5 million, what about Ben Davis?
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Well, I'd hope that what Kenny said about Harris/Iguchi as far as playing time and not worrying about which one makes more money applies to the catching situation as well... I do too, but since it seems KW loves Ben Davis so much, I doubt he'll be going anywhere, unless the Sox get a good deal in a trade.
  11. Michael Peeples. What a great name.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) All you folks are tiny down there.. I'd rather that than to be obese.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Well.. I weigh 114 and according to those I am underweight but according to a physical I'm in great health. They should update them if they are that far off. Anyway... back to the topic. Thanks for the info. I only weigh a little over 100 pounds myself (yes I know I'm tiny), but my family is just very small, my mum and sister would weigh less than me. But I'm happy and healthy so that's all that matters.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) At this point, I really don't see the use for Davis on the team. Maybe someone can tell me if I'm wrong, but the reasons teams would want Davis is because he might be able to figure it out vs. righties, as he's done better against righties than against lefties -- and he's alright defensively, but not a defensive star. I'd much rather have Burke up here. He seems like the perfect 'Ozzieball' type of player, with that short, compact swing (whether or not that produces a high batting average is besides the point), plus -- I'm almost certain that he would do better against left handed pitchers than Davis would. I also recall the pitchers really taking a liking to Burke, though that's not to say the same about Davis. And, while Burke isn't a defensive star either, he isn't much worse (if at all) than Davis. And, while he's definitely not your first choice at third base, in an emergency situation, he'd be able to give you time at 3B/1B. All signs point to Burke over Davis, but since Davis makes the $1m paycheck, he's going to stick around. He also had the highest ERA of all 4 catchers last season as well.
  15. Dee Brown gets em off to the perfect start.
  16. QUOTE(danman31 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) I got the Utes in the Sweet 16 on his shoulders. As do I, I have em beating Oklahoma before losing to Kentucky. The thing is, UTEP had 3 guys on Bogut in the 2nd half and it killed him. He's very tired right now, and whether he'll have enough juice to carry on at his peak level throughout the Tournament, I don't know.
  17. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) I don't know who'd want him to be honest. I know he's a switch hitter and all, but he's never panned out and probably never will be what was expected of him. My thoughts exactly. If Davis is going to produce offensively it'll be here, but whether or not he gets the chance to do that, I don't think he will.
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) You seem to forget that it all comes down to money with the Pirates. That's why Littlefield was robbed in the Aramis Ramirez trade. That's why he traded Jason Kendall. And that's why he would likely be open to dealing Mackowiak. Mackowiak may not even be a starter for the Pirates this year. Even though Mackowiak's $1.5 million salary sounds dirt cheap to us, he is still only under a 1-year contract and will be set to earn even more money next season. They'll have money to pay him next season if they want. Lawton's and Santiago's salary will come off the books, and they can make some more moves to free up payroll if that's what they want to do. Also, with the likes of Ty Wigginton at 3B, and Castillo/Hill at 2B, and Lawton at CF, an excellent utility guy like Machowiak becomes all the more important to them, even though right now he's probably their RF (unless they trade for Encarnacion). The thing is, Harris and Diaz isn't enough of an upgrade for them to consider dealing Machowiak. Harris isn't enough of a difference to take over everyday from Castillo and Hill, while like I've said already, they've got other options (and probably better) to use instead of Diaz. If Pitssburgh is going to move Machowiak, it's going to be for a better deal (most likely prospects).

    Band of Brothers

It was one of those shows I really wanted to watch but I never actually got around to watching it (the 11p.m timeslot didn't help much).
  20. To ease the tension for those Ilini fans....... So that Andrew Bogut's good isn't he.
  21. Reputations develop very fast around SoxTalk don't they.
  22. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) I want to face a tough pitcher. Why can't they throw Maddux or Zambrano at us? I could give you a nice easy logical answer here, but I think you know what it's going to be, so I just won't say it.
  23. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) I'm getting pulled into a never-ending discussion on the dangers of roid usage with someone who believes that their personal experience is the only source of knowledge they need on anything in life. :rolly It's time for me to exit this thread. Never thought I'd see that happen.
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) This just goes to show that if the Pirates are willing to trade for an overpaid scrub like Encarnacion, they would probably be willing to trade Mackowiak for a scrub like Diaz. Do I have to even mention the Aramis Ramirez trade. :headshake Just because a team may make one bad deal (and we don't even know who they're dealing for Encarnacion), doesn't mean they're going to make another one for the hell of it. Dave Littlefield's pulled some good ones in his time as GM, and they're not going to trade an excellent utility guy for a guy who's probably not even going to be their 5th starter, now and in the long - term.
  25. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) That is because he is so overated. And yet Bernie Bickerstaff wants him.......BAD
