It's a FoxSports report, probably from that Dayn Perry? guy. I wouldn't take too much consideration of that.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) I could see them taking Willie & Diaz or Willie & Adkins. They would get a possible 5th starter in either Diaz or Adkins and could play Willie in CF or platoon him with Jose Castillo at 2B. Of course, I'd rather dump Diaz than Adkins since I can't stand watching his slow, straight fastball get rocked. :puke The thing is Pittsburgh already has a lot of guys like Diaz and Adkins who are too good for AAA yet borderline major league starters. If they want a CF they could just pick up Alex Sanchez, and it looks like they are going to trade for Encarnacion possibly as well (he's the so called power bat they need).

Burke's not going to make it, that was pretty much confirmed with a couple of things this off-season, including Ozuna's stellar play, Burke's ineptness at 3B in that 1 game, and when he was taken off the 40 man roster for Bobby Jenks.

Wow 53 pages in 1 day, and it's a not a game thread. That's mightily impressive.

Chris Paul can't hit a 3 to save his life right now and it's killing Wake. 4-19 from 3 point land. 32% from the field. Ugh.

4 for 4 from the Austin Bracket so far, I have Utah and Kentucky moving on in that section next.

Telstra. Bet you never heard of that one before.

Wow it was St. Patrick's Day for me yesterday.... I was stuck at Uni from 8 til 4, and didn't end up having one drink. The closest thing I got to experiencing it was seeing the Weather Man's face painted green.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) Good Jason good. The first step towards cooking the books is to publish fake numbers. Why do I get the feeling I will be hearing the words "So help you God" in my future? We don't want to be taking a ride on Enron's "Ride of Broken Dreams" now do we. Seriously though, I think it's cool Jason is able to cover the costs and get a little something back for starting this place up. He pays for this board, so without him we wouldn't have anything to discuss, and you wouldn't be talking to a Crazy Aussie.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) Any update on the status of Hinrich? We need him back BAD. He's caught Steve Francis disease with his jump shot by all reports.
-
Wow, I seriously can't believe this, and I'm gonna give John Weisbrod major props for it. Davis wasn't going to come back anyways, so why not try to save the season now and make the playoffs instead of just going through the motions for the next 20 or so games. Now if he can trade Steve Francis in the off-season and hire Flip Saunders, I'll be a happy man.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) In this scenario, could the Bears draft a QB? I just don't think you can afford paying two QB's first round money. You saw how much Phillip Rivers is making San Diego, and with Drew Brees getting franchised, that's like $15M in cap space being eaten up b/w the 2 of em.

No Braylon Edwards there Knight. But still I can't see San Fran passing on Rodgers.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan56789 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Im pretty sure the Ivan thing was in the famous I AM SOXMAN thread What was I again? Brian Daubach or something?
-
Reading this at Uni was just hilarious, almost had me on the floor in hysterics. And yes we'll hav to dig that thread up, although I don't think it was the one where Alex got drunk and started telling those Crazy Ivan stories.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Yep. The best free agent QB's left are Jeff Blake and Quincy Carter. Since Carter is a coke-head, I would take my chances on Blake. QC: "But, but I didn't do nothing!!!"

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) Anybody else root for the Sox in Major League? Jack Parkman and that Beck guy.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) We know how much Jerry values a superstar finishing in a Chicago jersey Fisk, Jordan, Frank? Do we really believe that Jerry is going to care where Frank finishes his career? What's a fair contract for Thomas to finish off his career then Tex? At the expense of Konerko even?
-
Thomas with reservations....... because of his ankle;

QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) Scott Podsednik: Had a great rookie season, but tailed off dramatically. Juan Uribe: How in the hell are you going to get a guy who wants to swing for the fences, to be a small ball player. Tadahito Iguchi- So far we've heard a lot of disheartening talk from scouts and from MLB players who have seen him ex) Ray King, He's also never played in the majors before. Paul Konerko- After a terrible 2003, he rebounded in 2004 to hit over 40 HR's. But doesn't he have the capabiluty to hit .300 and hit 30 HR's. I take that instead. Aaron Rowand- Everybody's hyped on him, like myself, but wasn't this guy and underachiever hisa whole career until he finally had one great year. Jermaine Dye- Never even came close to repeating his career year, always hurt. AJ Pierzynski- Has no defensive capabilities, and has been known to be a clubhouse cancer. El Duque- Can't get through 1 healthy season anymore. His arm might fall off this year. Contreras- Has no control and no confidence. So far, a bust Shingo- Can hitters finally catch up to him this year. Buehrle- Is eh a true ace/ Garcia- Struggled since coming to Chicago I hope they win they win this year, but there are a lot of ?'s Since this seems to be the popular post to quote, I'll give it a shot. Podsednik - He's not going to post his 2004 numbers. He's in a better hitters park, and so long as he doesn't go the flyball route, he should be fine. .260 with an OBP of around .340/.350 is what I'm expecting. Iguchi - I suppose you haven't been watching much of Iguchi in Spring Training so far. Would you rather Willie Harris and his .190 average in ST so far be given the starters job instead? Konerko - How many first baseman in the league are able to hit .300 with 30HR's every year? There are going to be a lot of unhappy people if Konerko packs up and heads for the Bronx in 2006, but I don't expect that to happen. He's our clubhouse leader, and that was probably the deciding factor in him getting moved instead of Carlos Lee. Rowand - Aaron has never had a season in his career where he's hit lower than .258, except for 32 games in Charlotte where he hit .243. This guy has one of the best and quickest swings, and so long as he lays off the pitch low and away he'll be fine. And last season's numbers came off a .226/.268/.453 start in April. Dye - Dye has been injury prone yes, but a lot of those have been of a freakish nature. Last season he hit .265/23HR's/80 RBI's, in a pitcher's park in Oakland, and from only playing 137 games. IF he can stay healthy for a whole season, from hitting at the Cell, Dye will have better power numbers than Maggilo Ordonez. Book It. Pierzynski - Defense won't be the key stat for Pierzynski. It'll be pitchers ERA. Ben Davis would be our best catcher defensively, but that didn't mean squat, when he had the highest ERA for the pitchers he caught out of all 4 we had last season, aith it about 5.30 IIRC. Clubhouse cancer? Only time will tell, but Brett Tomko should be thankful he doesn't pitch in the AL. And of course Pierzynski hitting about .280, 15-20HR's, 90RBI's OWNS Ben Davis's .231/.276/.400 splits. El Duque - Calling Arnie Munoz. Calling Felix Diaz. Calling Brandon McCarthy before he's ready and starting the arbitration process early before he reaches his peak. KW has said there are no problems with his arm and it's been in the best condition for a few years. There's no doubt he'll be on the DL at some stage, but would you rather him for 2 years $8 million, or Esteban Loaiza for 2 years $9 million and his 5.50 ERA? Contreras - Meh, I agree with you on Contreras as do a lot of people. The talent's all there, but whether or not we'll or anybody in America for that matter get to see it, I don't know. In any case, I expect him to be gone mid - season with B-Mac moving up, and some team will definitely want him because of his stuff, so long as the Sox pay some of his deal. It all depends whether or not we get the Jose Contreras we saw in August or September, that will determine his future here. Shingo - 1.52 ERA in September. He ain't going to be as good as he was last season, I think that's a given. But look at the previous alternatives we've had. Billy Koch, you want him back giving up huge homers? He's Toronto's problem now. For $2.5 million, we're getting a cheap closer with the potential of about a 2.50-3 ERA with about 35 - 40 saves. Buerhle - He's our ace, and will be for the next 3 years. Let's just hope all those innings he's pitched don't have a negative effect on his arm in the future. Garcia - 9-4 with a 4.46 ERA, hardly struggling when you pitch at the Cell for half of your games, even though I'll admit he should have better numbers than that. The key stat for him will be HR's given up. 14 from 16 games for us last season. If he can cut that ratio down to .75:1, he'll have a sub 4 ERA and the oppurtunity to win 15 to 20 games. And for 3 years $27 million, compared to the likes of Derek Lowe (4 years $36 million) with his 5.42 ERA and Kris Benson (3 years $22 million) where he's had only 1 season with an ERA under 4, well you get my point.
