Spending 5 weeks in China. If you watched the Amazing Race 6 when they went to Shanghai and Xian, you'd know why.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) Where was it said we low balled him on money? I may have missed it. He wanted a 6 figure bonus. The Sox only offered him the amount of about a 6th or 8th round draft pick, about $60,000-$80,000 IIRC.

Travis Hinton acquired from Milwaulkee will likely be the everyday 1B/DH with Rogo prob playing at LF as well.

I had Alex down for an Equipment Manager Spot washing the Jock Straps, but hey whatever he wants to do.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 05:45 AM) I was thnking he may want to go back in time to when that haircut looked cool Mr. Peabody, set the wayback machine to, to, to, never! It's sort of the return of the mullet. Uh Oh.

QUOTE(shagar69 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) its stuff like this makes me happy that im in college and can hook up with some random ass chick and then never have to see her again or do any thing with her ever again, lol. What happens when you get out of college?

Some good things to come out of today, B-Mac's performance obviously. Crede having a good game with the bat, and most of the relievers did a good job with the exception of Vizcaino.

When it comes to pitching in Arizona for ST, results and numbers there shouldn't be taken seriously at all. El Duque and Contreras know what they can do, they're not going to set the world on fire in ST.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Exactly. I think KW has put the team in a good situation. This is the 1st year in the last 4 years that there isnt a need for another starter in the rotation, so having Bmac up isnt a need at this point. I will be beyond pissed if Bmac gets like 3 or 4 starts in AAA, is doing great, then someone goes down, or they just call him up anyway, he gets rocked, then is messed up in the head when he goes back down to AAA. He is still so young, no need to rush. There are other options we can use besides B-Mac. Hermanson can be used as a starter, and if Adkins is starting in AAA, he could be given a shot as well.

QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) The way he is playing this spring. Just beacuse a guy hits well in spring training, doesn't automatically make him a starting player. Using your method, Shingo wouldn't have even made the team last season. There's a reason Ozuna was in AAA for Philly last year, and has only played 65 major league games with an OBP under .300.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) Fields iscoming up fast. Expect him to be in the MLB this season unless Crede get's the banana out of his ass. BTW, Crede played fairly early last season with all those clutch hits. I beleive he really started slumping in the middle of the season. He won't be up this season. He's starting the year down at B-Ham, and still has a lot of little things to work on before he's major league ready, such as his command of the strike zone, improving his BB/K ratio, and his fielding at 3rd. 2006 maybe, unless they decide to start him at Charlotte instead depending on what happens with Crede and free agent moves and trades etc.
-
QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 05:24 AM) The way things are going, I say Osuna at SS, Uribe at 3rd, and Crede can be a beer vendor. What makes you think Pablo Ozuna can be a starting SS in this league as well?
-
Brandon shouldn't be rushed. The arbitration process will be started early, and we don't want a Zack Grienke or Jeremy Bonderman situation on our hands. Let him dominate at B-Ham or Charlotte for the majority of the year, don't forget he's never pitched higher than AA before, and he was only pitching for the Barons for about a month or 2 including playoffs.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) Tis Jorge Cantu? The Moe Syslak of Professional Baseball. No wait... he looks more like Mr. Teenie.
-
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) actually he's not a good character guy. The only reason the A's dumped him was because he was thought to be too wild and not good in the clubhouse Is there a source anywhere that says he's either a good guy for the clubhouse or not?
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) We can't afford to wait for him to hit in the second half. Those games in April and May count as well. That's what I'm worried about with Crede. The Sox need him to hit well early, otherwise there'll be big pressure to make a move at the deadline, to acquire a guy like Joe Randa to replace him as a stopgap until Fields is ready. Whether Crede can do that or not, I don't know.
-
This was to be expected, it wasn't like he was magically going to come out with his new swing and hit over .300 with lots of power. I'd expect him to iron out the kinks in the first few months of the season, and come on strong later on, as he is a 2nd half hitter.

Bumping this thread for Tomko's thoughts on the situation;

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:18 AM) OK, then how about Saddam's rap sheet of human rights violations, his repeated violations of UN resolutions, etc.? Sticking up for Saddam, eh? Boy, you really have gone off the deep end! If that was the case, why didn't Bush just say that when they were invading Iraq? That's what the allied nations leaders were telling their people, that they had sent their troops to find these WMD. And why not get rid of Saddam earlier if the UN and America were looking for an excuse to do so?

Viking Turmoil continues

The thing is, who's going to replace Tice if he gets canned? Scott Linehan would have been perfect, too bad he went to Miami. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) This is where I disagree. I don't think you are sacrificing anything. In fact, I think it's better for Cotts to continue to learn how to pitch to ML hitters, rather than get ml hitters out. He can be stretched out to be a starter in ST when they think he's ready to start. Is he going to be able to improve those secondary pitches, while he's pitching in the pen for us though beacuse that seems to be the major reason for those who want him back in Charlotte, to make him a better pitcher in the long - term. But the question that needs asking, is will Kevin Walker be a better reliever in 2005 than Neal Cotts?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) No Andrew Bogut discussions??? Basketball down here is like Ice Hockey in Nashville (well you get the point).

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Only thing i have to add to this thread is that i almost can't talk baseball with people not at my knowledge level. Probly why i'm here so often. If you don't know you're s***, i just can't talk sports with you. It does nothing for me. At least you guys over there can talk to people about sports. Down here the closest I'd get, is talking to one of my buddies about how good Albert Pujols is.
