If we claim him on waivers, he goes to arbitration, where he could make $5 million. No team will probably take that chance, unless they are desperate for him. If he hits free agency, he'll probably get about $4 million from some team.

I find it hard to believe the D-Backs wouldn't be interested on Garland. They could use all the young pitching they could get, and they're rotation ain't exactly playoff material (Webb, Ortiz etc.) But they've made it pretty clear they want a more established guy in Burnett or Vazquez.

There's no doubt if the Yanks put him through a physical, that he'd fail that. Supposedly Jaret Wright's shoulder is better than Pedro's and he had to go thru 2 physicals.

I think because he used to be in the Yanks' organization probably has something to do with it,maybe they know something about him that we don't, although I wouldn't really trust Mel Stoddemire (don't know if I spelled that right ) to fix a pitcher, as his track record besides El Duque hasn't been that flash hot over the past few seasons.

Damn I thought Johnson was making 5 mill last season and Vina about 4, oh well. But yeah definitely pitching is a big need, although Bonderman, Maroth, Johnson and Robertson will definitely be in their rotation most likely.

Can you believe he wants 8 million over 3 years though, I mean frankly he should of just taken the Yanks' offer of 7 million over 3 years, which is probably off the table now.

Uribe was tabbed to be the utility man when we acquired him for Aaron Miles last off-season. But with the struggles of Jose Valentin and Uribe's hot start, it was impossible to keep him out of the lineup. But yeah, we do need a utility man, and if we don't sign anyone, that job will probably go to Wilson Valdez and I know a lot of people won't be looking forward to that.

Wasn't it 10 million between the two of em last off - season? They have missed out on a lot of free agents this off-season though besides Percival, but they could always enter the Beltran sweepstakes.

Burnett could really have a Carl Pavano like year if he stayed down in Florida. He's almost 2 years coming back from surgery, which seems to be the timetable for coming back successfully and pitching better (e.g. Jon Lieber). The Marlins are worried they won't be able to lock him up after next season though considering he'll be a free agent. Sooner or later, they're going to have to pay one of their young pitchers big money though.

I think Detroit will actually overpay for him now, hell they'd overpay for anybody they could get their hands on this off-season.

I'll take credit for first suggesting about him around these parts if we do sign him. He's a little hot and cold thorughout the season, but he has a excellent OBP like Jason said, which is something we definitely need more of. And his ability to play 2b and SS with his excellent defense, should give us some real value. If he is non - tendered, I really think something is going to go down here.

I think at the end of last season or the year before that, Williams actually started playing ok as the starting PG or 1st guy off the bench before Starbury came into town I think. This has Joe Dumars written all over it though.

Yeah it should be interesting to see if a team that claims him, gives him a legiminate shot at making the pen out of spring training, or whether they keep him as a starter, although you'd hav to believe it'd be the former.
