  1. He wasn't going to waive his no trade clause unless the team he would be traded to gave him a new long term deal.
  2. After the Dodgers missed out on a big name player in Randy, I've got no doubt they'll offer big bucks for Nomar, especially since he's a local boy too. They'll trade Izturis for some bullpen help.
  3. At the start of this spring training, it looked like we would be depending on Dan Wright and Jon Rauch to man the back end of our rotation. Now we have Jon Garland and Scott Schoeneweis, you gotta say that's a definite improvement.

    Bye kids...

Sounds like you are having a nice trip there Steff. I almost got to go to Detroit this year, my Dad almost had a 3 month contract to do some I.T work in the Windy City or in Minny I think, would have loved to catch some baseball while I was over there. Hopefully we can pull out a victory for ya.
  6. I believe he's already on the 40 man roster as well just for that reason.
  7. Contreras' reaction when he found out about the trade, At 3 p.m., Cashman took the elevator from his office to the clubhouse, ran into Stottlemyre in the dugout runway, asked him to pull Contreras off the bench, tracked down interpreter Leo Astacio and posed the burning question in Torre's office. Contreras was stunned, distraught, and, said someone who saw him shortly after, angry. Cashman left while Contreras spoke via phone with his agent, Jaime Torres. By 3:40 p.m., "it was getting hairy," said Cashman, but then his Blackberry buzzed. It was Torres, giving the okay.
  8. Wilson Valdez will I'm farily sure, hitting over .300 for the Knights but hardly walks. Bryant Nelson probably deserves a call - up too he's had a excellent season for the Knights too. Ruddy Yan possibly, he has great speed could be used as a pinch runner.
  9. So far this year Proctor is 1-1 with a 5.96 ERA for the Yankees.
  10. Yep, this pretty much sums it up. White Sox GM Kenny Williams, a former teammate of Delgado's, told Ricciardi earlier this week that he believed he could persuade Delgado to waive his no-trade clause. Blue Jays sources say a skeptical Ricciardi passed the matter on to Blue Jays president and chief executive officer Paul Godfrey, who asked Delgado if he would reconsider. Delgado declined, and the matter went no further
  11. Probably belonged in the Loaiza and Contreras thread, but I thought this was pretty important. From the New York Post, Reports are mixed on Loaiza. White Sox GM Kenny Williams called the Rangers and told them if they could get Victor Zambrano from the Devil Rays he would send Loaiza to Texas for Zambrano. The Rangers, who were prepared to deal outfielder Kevin Mench for Zambrano, weren't going to trade Zambrano to the White Sox for Loaiza. Not that it matters to the Yankees, but they saved $12 million on the deal. They are paying $1 million to the White Sox this year, $1 million next year and $2 million in 2006. Contreras, who went 15-7 for the Yankees and was 8-5 this season with a 5.64 ERA in 18 starts, left Yankee Stadium when informed of the deal, which he could have vetoed but didn't. "He figured if they don't want you, why stay?" said someone who spoke to Contreras, who was 0-4 with a 16.44 ERA in five games against the Red Sox. After exhausting every avenue to get Johnson, the Yankees turned to the White Sox about 70 minutes before yesterday's 4 p.m. non-waiver trading deadline. Contreras for Loaiza wasn't the only deal discussed by the Yankees and White Sox, who almost swapped Scott Proctor for lefty Scott Schoeneweis. But the Yankees believed Schoeneweis wouldn't be happy in their bullpen and scrapped the deal.
  12. And when they see Loaiza tossing 87 MPH on the outside part of the plate and getting hit hard, the heat will be on Steibrenner and Cashman.

That's one hell of a clinic.
  14. Thought this was interesting from Phil Rogers on Contreras, For the short term, the White Sox should promote Felix Diaz (9-2, 3.18 at Triple-A Charlotte) to replace Loaiza and use Contreras out of the bullpen, where they need help. But it's easy to see how Contreras could blossom as a starter under lowered expectations, as Loaiza did in 2003.
  15. Until they become like the Yankees and won't be able to make the trades they want to as they run out of good prospects. The Yankees didn't get Randy Johnson, that makes me feel good, it's good for baseball.

  17. Bull pitched very well against a very good Huntsville team with the likes of Rickie Weeks. His ERA is down to 3.56 now enjoying a fairly good season.
  18. Is that before or after tonight's start?

  20. Wow, well at least there's something to be proud of tonight. I'm sure he'll get some publicity from the likes of BA after this performance.
