6/4 - Sox vs. KC, 7:11 CT, CSN
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) Oz won't be embarrassed. Dotel will lose it this inning in the rain. Looks like Guillen will have to be embarrassed because of Ramirez's selfishness.

Dotel is the last pitcher in the bullpen? ROFLCOPTER I'm interested in seeing this game go on longer just for the comedic value. Guillen should know better in the future than to use Masset, his long man, for a short period of time.

Damn, the only problem with Dye at second is we'll need atleast another double to score him. s***.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Weather? Yeah, but it seems to be moving east. Haven't checked any weather reports, though. Can no longer hear the thunder and can faintly see the lightning.

This game better be decided soon, because all hell is breaking loose south of here.

Draft is 24 hours away...
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Hosmer will go 3 or 5, book it. And him going 5 is the only shot Smoak falls to the Sox pick. Awesome. We need either a surprise (which Hosmer would be considering his demands) or an overdraft for this to be a possibility.

1. Alvarez (not that I expect him to be available, but for the chance he is because of signing concerns) 2. Posey 3. Smoak 4. Crow

If other teams did something drastic, such as walk Quentin every AB -- even with the bases loaded -- we'd be screwed. I'd like to see teams do that, some day. Just avoid players all together if he seems to be one of the few productive hitters in a lineup.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) if there is ever a year to go over slot...this is the year as we dont have a 2nd rounder, so why not use the extra money to throw it at a guy like pedro I hope they do. It infuriates me to think about slot recommendations with the state of our farm system. I just won't be as upset this year as last season because I know there's still a quality player available. Also, who knows whether we'll be going overslot in the latter rounds (which is several hundred thousand instead of several million)

Wow, that's crazy power. All he did was give the ball a love tap and it flew over 330 ft to right field.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 3, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) Just wait til we draft a guy who would be available in the 3rd round, in the first round cuz he will be easy to sign. I'm willing to insult our organization much as the next person for their issues with drafting and developing even average players, but there's no way they overdraft that much. Even if we pass on Alvarez (which I'll be upset with), it won't be the difference in talent that, say, Rick Porcello to Aaron Poreda provided. It'll instead be the difference of Wallace/Beckham/Smoak/whomever else around that slot and Alvarez.

I'm honestly looking forward to Guillen if the offense looks terrible tonight. Not that it's unreasonable to expect that with Greinke, but it'd be especially bad since he promised lineup changes, didn't deliver, and nothing changed. What a flip-flop from him on the pregame show. Talking about not throwing Williams "under the bus?!" Does he think we're idiots?

Changes coming by Tuesday?
HAHAHAH at Guillen looking like an idiot. It's going to be great during the pregame interviews when reporters ask him about these drastic lineup changes.

Ahmadinejad: Israel will "soon disappear"
No, this is not an outdated thread that I've bumped. Just another round of ominous threats from our favorite Middle Eastern president. http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/i...261250620080603 Notice how he specifically says "geographical scene." Not this idea that has been thrown around in the past, when the term "whiped off the map" emerged, that it's simply a misunderstanding and he means it in the sense of Israel no longer having its formal title. At what point will everyone believe what he's saying is more than emtpy rhetoric? Atleast one of these scnearios are inevitable in my opinion --Israel attacks Iran's nuclear facilities or Iran detonates a nuclear device within Israel's borders. Read the quotes above and convince me ANY peaceful solutions can come out of it.

FutureSox 2008 MLB Draft Discussion
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 06:52 PM) Tribune saying Sox will take Beckham or Wallace, but of course, won't pay over slot money. After reading some of the players we've been associated with lately, I've come around on Wallace by default. I'm just tired of this slot recommendation crap. Especially when it seems to involve nothing more than devotion to an MLB policy, which, if broken, incurs NOTHING. And doesn't anyone think it's a problem that the teams who have no issue with slot recommenations, such as Detroit/Boston/NY, have great talent fall to them?

FutureSox 2008 MLB Draft Discussion
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) I know Sox won't take Hosmer, but hopefully one of the top 7 picks will go to him. BTW, I heard today that the Mets think Pedro Alvarez could fall to the 18th pick. If we're willing to pass on Alvarez, it better be because of Smoak or Crow. Not that those two are more projectable, but i'd atleast understand the financial difference. It's a nice consolation prize. However, if Smoak and Crow are gone (which would be all but guaranteed if Alvarez falls to us) I'll have just about enough of our drafting philosophies. We finally have a reasonable draft slot, for the first time in fifteen years, and it can't be thrown away with a safe pick. Passing on talent two straight seasons because of Boras and slot recommendations is pitiful.

FutureSox 2008 MLB Draft Discussion
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) With the two Beckhams, Posey, Crow, Hosmer, Alvarez, Smoak, Skippy, and Alonso in the draft, you'd have to think we can get one of them. I wonder if Posey might not fall to the Sox? I read several days ago not only are teams drawn away from Hosmer due to this financial demands, but apparently, Boras was rumored to be demanding a major league clause in his contract similar to Andrew Miller. No way in hell we're messing with that even if he's available. I keep forgetting about Alonso. I guess it's just strange to consider drafting the third best (or fourth, if you believe Wallace will be moved) first baseman in the draft at the 8th position. And from what I can quickly gather on him, there's concerns over his lack of power. Do you take a chance hoping he develops power? At 15 maybe, but I believe there should be more certainty in our position.

Changes coming by Tuesday?
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) I just hope they play relaxed and have fun this homestand. The offense has been as bad as you can imagine, and they're still in first place in June. By one game. I'm not convinced of anything. A bad month and we could easily be in third place. If we can't maintain a first place lead with 17 of 26 games at home (8 of which are against divisional rivals), it's probably a good indication we're not going anywhere.

FutureSox 2008 MLB Draft Discussion
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Keith Law now has the Sox thinking Jason Castro as SF is supposedly on G. Beckham right now. While I expect them to be screwed with their selection (ie, every appealing player will be drafted before us and OF COURSE this will be the ONE year with no surprises or overdrafts), I would think our talent evaluators have enough sense than to bother with Castro. I've already set my expectations. Franchise player. No exceptions. We can't afford to be drafting mediocre catchers, future 4th OFers or Lance Broadway clones.

Changes coming by Tuesday?
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Correct. With a very limited minor league system(that is being generous) and a shallow 25 man roster, there isn't much to be done. You're going to see a few guys shifted around in the order. Big deal. It wouldn't serve much of a difference, but I'd love to see this order: Cabrera Ramirez Quentin Dye Pierzynski Crede Thome Konerko Swisher Konerko may have his sore thumb (and according to reports he has been hitting better), but until he starts producing more he can sit with the rest of the non contributors at the bottom of the order.

Changes coming by Tuesday?
Direct quote from Guillen broadcasted on WSCR: "If we think we're going to win with this offense we're full of s***." HAHAHAHAHAH. I love it. I don't care if he's throwing his offense under the bus, it's true. Too bad there's nothing much Williams can do. At the least, he has assured tomorrow's offday will be interesting.

OH YES, the DSL is BACK!
I notice a good amount players on both squads born in the 1990's. Several in 1991. Good for us, these last few years it seems the youngest players we've had in the summer leagues have been 19/20. And while I don't believe their young age automatically suggests more talent (especially with our scouting issues recently), it's better than the alternative of monitoring 21/22 year olds with a limited chance of quickly advancing through the system.
