QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Well of course you are correct there, but people here are just panicking about the Crede/Fields thing because starting Joe and sending Fields to AAA is exactly the type of thing our organization would do. As for a Roberts trade......this does point towards that, but what the hell can we give them? We have nothing. For us to beat the offer of any competing team, it'd have to include atleast one of: Jenks, Danks, Fields. How else could we possibly meet their demands without giving up 5/6 mediocre players? Wow. Just watching Ramirez in the first inning against Colorado, he battled for quite awhile before hitting a HR into LF. I love this guy's bat speed. The White Sox must love quite a bit of him, as well. It's ridiculous how he's able to turn on inside pitches.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) But anyways, the only way we are going to get our MLB team to be good again is to rebuild, and that would in the short run entail having good minor league teams which build up the young talent before it is ready for the majors. We can't get good again IMO unless we rebuild, and you can't rebuild unless you at some point have a good AAA team and farm system. I have to believe it'll take a season worse than last years for Williams to rebuild. Even winning 73 games is some improvement! Our most important route for improvment, because I doubt we're worse than last year, is the draft. We can't miss. It has to be a stud. Considering the amount of time that has passed since we've been in the Top 10 (and the players who were selected), it should go a ways towards building a contender. I'm not discounting later rounds, either. The first round just holds the most certainty. Really, what other avenues for improvement do we have? Trade the prospects we don't have, or break mold and outspend other teams for top-tier talent? My expectations for the upcoming draft will be so ridiculous you'll crap yourself. If any team selecting after our first pick and before our second drafts a player, even one previously injured or unknown, that ultimately becomes a better player than our draftee I'll blame the scouting staff. This, mind you, will cover 80 picks. Whoever is involved with the draft should be monitoring players with their jobs on the line. I'm expecting someone in the Tim Lincecum, Scott Kazmir, Clay Buchholz, Cole Hamels, Dan Haren mode for a pitcher; or Chase Utley, David Wright, Joey Votto, Adam Jones mold for a positional player.

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) And Josh Fields still plays 3B like Cory Snyder. I honestly don't care. Even a poor defensive 3rd baseman in the major leagues will make plays 9/10 times. I'd rather have the occasional bobble and overthrow from Fields, factoring in his offensive potential, than stellar defense from Joe (which I doubt he'll provide) and his average offensive output.
-
I may as well add, because I know Soxtalk well enough to expect certain replies, that yes; it's possible this article doesn't mean anything. There aren't any direct quotes from Williams suggesting Crede is his opening day starter. And nearly two weeks remain before rosters will be set, giving us plenty of time to ship off Crede. I just hope we're not going to be stubborn about holding onto Crede. It'd really be a ridiculous move.
-
Get rid of his ass, already. Who cares what the return value is? Kannapolis could use another 26 year old reliever. Or whether we're eating a large percentage of his salary? It's to a point now where you have to ask yourself, is it worth keeping Crede around for a half season (at the least) because Williams demands are too high? We currently have a 3B in Fields who should be facing major league compeition. Not going back to Charlotte. It's not as if you can guarantee Crede will outperform Fields, either. That's what makes this incredibly frustrating for me. Atleast with Uribe and the second base situation there's not exactly a prospect comparable to Fields waiting in the wings. Sure, we'd rather see Ramirez; but for a contending team (or one that thinks it is), you can only take so many chances. We're already going to have Danks and Floyd in the rotation, Owens/Anderson as a likely OF combination. And I don't care what he's done in the past. His gimpy back and weak bat in Spring Training have put us in this position. I'm not going to be one of those people sucking his teets because of his CLUTCHNESS in 2005. I subscribe to "what have you done for me lately," and lately, everyday that passes with Crede wearing a Sox uniform is another wasted day. Be gone, son.

Tough outing for my boy, Liriano. Reports I read after his last appearance suggested average fastball velocity hovering around 87-88. It may be awhile (if, at all) before he comes anywhere close to pre-surgery awesomeness. If he's not throwing 97 mph with a 90 mph slider he'll be dead to me.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) How were we mistaken? KW said he was just a step below Jenks in velocity, and I think that turned out completely correct. It may have been correct because of Bobby's dropping velocity, but that doesn't mean it was incorrect. He didn't mean that at all. As Fathom noted, he meant "tick below (98mph) Jenks" not "tick below (94 mph) Jenks." Someone gave him incorrect scouting reports and there's no other way to spin it. Either that, or someone's radar guns were off.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Well, it's possible that the slider doesn't exist/is being greatly exaggerated. Wouldn't be the first time we were...mistaken like with Masset's fastball. That's a real possibility. When Williams is going on about Poreda's slider being the kind where you swinging from your back foot, I hope he realizes people who follow baseball religiously will be judging that. He probably doesn't care, but I know I'm tired of false expectations being applied to situations where it isn't necessary. Don't build up Poreda. Let his pitching do the talking It serves no purpose because he's not going to be traded in June (I'd imagine....) and 95% of the people watching the game couldn't care less.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) Floyd may suck, in fact any of the young players may suck. But at this point, we need to see what we have. I would rather give these kids the benefit of the doubt and to give them an honest opportunity. If they suck or dont work out, they are cheap enough to get rid of. I mean you preach the patience of sticking with an overpaid overweight not so good 2nd baseman that we had to trade our best chip to get his replacement. I'm as pessimistic as anyone concerning......well........everything, but I ultimately don't care about Floyd because I'm not optimistic we're going to do anything this season. If not Floyd, who else to replace him -- Ohka, Broadway, Egbert, Masset? Actually, I'd rather have Masset than Contreras anyday, simply to guage what we have for 10 million less. Look at what's at stake -- if he's good, we have a cheap starting pitcher. If he's bad, we throw his ass into the bullpen and continue sucking. Sure, I'll still insult him if he does poorly or commend him after a good outing; but I'm not going to insist he be replaced by someone else in Spring Training. There is no one else. I suppose if I were convinced this team had a legitimate shot of reaching the playoffs I'd care, but since I don't, it doesn't mean much. I'm much more concerned about the future of our minor league system than anything currently on the roster.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) I don't know, but I have heard from someone that works in the Sox system and they were saying how freaking high everyone is on him (which is contrary to the stuff Bureau has stated, which is again why I think you ahve to take any persons opinion as just one opinion). But he definitely has an electric arm and from what I've heard he's really been developing a nasty slider (but it is an inconsistent one). When I heard Williams gushing about him yesterday I wondered when did the development of his slider come along. From most accounts at the end of last season, he was simply blowing away lower level competition with a high 90's fastball. Is this something he has been tinkering with over the offseason? Has it really progressed that much? Six spring training games remain to be televised. I have to imagine we'll see him pitch atleast once during this span.

QUOTE(shipps @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) Veeners break way too often, they are far less strong than real teeth.Pretty expensive to start so they are expensive to replace. Really? How would one even repair broken veneers, considering they're cemeted onto the tooth?

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 12:22 PM) High School Drama Time!! Okay so it isnt really drama, but its starting to become that. My girlfriend is really worried over her sister, who is repeatedly flirting with this asshole of a guy who blatantly wants to get in her pants and then runoff. I dont know the guy personally, but have seen him talk to the sister and he just seems like that prototypical jock with a head full of air and that douche personality, who only thinks of himself, and right now he wants that ass. The sister already has a boyfriend, who lives about an hour or so away, so they see each other only every couple of weeks if that, and they seem to like each other, and from what Ive heard he is a really awesome guy. But this girl just keeps on flirting with dumbass of guys. I really want to help her, but part of me thinks a bad experience would help her learn whats best (she's only a sophomore) but Im afraid taht she could get in BIG trouble with this guy and I want to prevent that too. Any suggestions? Has your girlfriend thought about the possibility that her sister maybe wants this guy to get in her pants and run off? Maybe that's all she's looking for. I'm sure she knows this Johnny Fratboy's reputation. If it's a pattern, there's a reason for it. She probably would rather have a great guy available as a boyfriend and a jerkass to fool around with. My advice? Do nothing. Nothing you can do, to be honest. Let her learn. Maybe it's the fact people don't want the two together that she finds appealing. Almost a challenge. Your girlfriend will have to let her live her life.

Crosstown Showdown in Another State - March 15
Flash Tizzle replied to Heads22's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) I want to say that I want Jason Borgious starting at 2B. I really like that kid. Masset looked real good today too. He still needs to improve his command but he has pretty darn good stuff and has a nice arsenal of pitches. Logan looked filthy. And I continue to think Joe Crede >>>> Josh Fields. I would much rather resign Crede to a 3 year deal and move Fields and some others for some stud prospects (not that I necessarily think it is possible, but it happens to be what I'd rather do). I also have no idea whether Crede would accept a 3yr 21 M deal or something along those lines. Jason, Rock -- Were we watching the same game? Masset looked like dog poo-poo. He has a consistent 91-92 mph with limited movement and half his arsenal can't even locate the strike zone. Sure, he can enduce the occasional groundout; but for his stuff supposedly being a "tick below Jenks" he doesn't strike many out. -
What's strange is there have been times I've posted on Soxtalk while I've been s***-your-pants drunk and there's absolutely no way to tell. What comes to mind is last year I came home from a friends party puking, stumbling, and after crapping for 20 minutes decide to go on Soxtalk. I wrote this LONG post concerning the draft, before it happened, and it actually surprised me how coherent my arguments were. There was actually less ranting involved than usual.

Invisalign is a good (albeit expensive) option for correcting spaces. You just have to first, consult your orthodontist to make sure you're a right candidate; and second, follow the instructions strictly. Since it can be removed, people may get in the habit of removing it during social situations. Often for hours. When you add up one day it won't matter, but over weeks and months it does. These acitions ultimately reduces its effectiveness, especially since braces are replaced on a monthly(?) basis. If the teeth aren't moved over enough for the next set to work, it's just prolonging the treatment. I know quite a bit about dentistry because I had braces from 13-15, then nothing for a few months, and 16-18. My original dentist basically set me back a few years. It was ridiculous. Enough but me though, lol. Mark you have to carefully weigh your options. Make sure you find an orthodontist (if that's your route) who has been in practice for awhile and has before/after pictures of his patients. Lumineers aren't a good option for your condition because lumineers don't reflect light naturally. They stain as well. People only consider it because of the price and lack of preparation required. It's good you've thrown out this option. What you'd want to consider, if braces aren't appealing to you, is porcelain veneers. They're stain resistant, extremely durable, and can be specifically colored to match your surrounding teeth so it doesn't look fake. From what I know of the process, a mold is made of your teeth which is sent into a lab. They use mathematical formulas to calculate the right shape/size of the veneers in relation to your bite and surrounding teeth. Atleast that's whats done from dentist giving their patients a natural look. My aunt had it done and if I didn't know personally she had the procedure I never would have guessed. They look perfect. Problem is the price. If I recall what she said to my mom last year, it was maybe $800 a tooth.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 01:45 AM) Agreed. Two more episodes is NOT enough. Both you and I have been pimping this series for quite awhile, and it's obvious unless these next two episodes tie up loose ends quickly, some issues may be left open in the event the show is picked up again. What I do love about Jericho, and perhaps it's because producers know the show might not last, is how quickly everything moves. It's not like anything is needlessly dragged out. Another example of the shows appeal is what has happened to conclude the last two episodes. It's just isn't what you expect from network television. Many episodes had me feeling that way. Hell, how many plotlines on TV involve the disintegration of social order in the United States because of a cordinated terrorist attack which kills millions? Characters are killed and plotlines arise which you wouldn't expect from the usual feel-good formula. Part of me would love this show to continue onwards, but another is thinking if this show is ending, these next two episodes will be amazing. Don't have to wait 6 months for another season. That's the selfish part of me. And I'm sure I'll regret it when CBS replaces Jericho with some CSI spinoff.

March 12th Spring Baseball Game Discussion
Flash Tizzle replied to Heads22's topic in 2008 Season in Review
I haven't seen Anderson hit in quite awhile prior to yesterday, and what immediately stood out to me was his swing. It appeared more fluid than what I previously remembered. In unscientific terminology, it wasn't as loopy. Now, that probably doesn't mean much -- since he's traditionally performed well in Spring Training -- but any improvements with Anderson's offensive game should be noted. -
I'm several days late, but it was everything I expected from the parade. Most notably the endless amount of drunken antics. It had been several years since my last appearance, and with all the great moments were distinct minders of why the parade is ridiculous. Bars are damn near impossible to enter. You can't openly drink alcohol within sight of Western. It's an adventure trying to find a place to piss. You're options are either find a place or wait in line for 15 minutes. Of couse, don't forget about everyone's favorite issue -- parking. Our group parked two blocks west of Kedzie and hiked through the cemetary along 111th. I felt sorry for the people visiting deceased relatives and having to deal with drunks trampling over gravesites and using the ground as trash. It was fun, though. For the first half of the parade we were in Kennedy park drinking everything within our bookbags. If only it had been warmer. My favorite memory of the day was walking through a business parking lot off 106th and Western, trying to cut through the alley to avoid walking traffic, and seeing a drunken, FAT ASS girl -- everything pulled down below her waste -- having her friend hold her up while she's leaning against a car pissing.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) 10,000 B.C. looks absolutely awful. It looked better when it was called Apocalypto. And that's only a marginal improvement. Whoever created this movie should have set it back in 75,000 BC, when humans were believed to have been near extinction from a supervolcano erupting in Indonesia. That would have been more interesting than the same storyline rehased a thousand times before about "trying to saves one family" or "protecting one's people from a rival tribal group/gang/collection of thugs"

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) One of my favorite bar stories from the SSI parade. At Keegans after the parade. A few years ago I had some fat read headed guy with the last name of Kowalski tell me that he was more Irish than me because he had Freckles and had 30% of a liver intact. 20 minutes later O'Kowalski was vomitting up cheap green beer. Then he was making out in the bathroom with what was a 46 year old nasty looking bar fly. Later he was attempting I believe to do the riverdance, screaming the "WEEEREE DA SSSSOUTH SIDE IRISH LKEEE AREE FATTERS ARE BEFFOOORE.". I stepped over him on the curb about an hour later, with 2 of his friends trying to drag him to the car. Have fun at the parade guys, and keep safe. Its good to have fun, and its basically Irish Marti Gras. This parade is a lot of fun, and depending on the weather I may or may not be there. Haha. I don't know why, but I've always seen the worst of society at Keegans more than any other south side bar I've ever gone to. This includes Brewbakers, BJ Fellows, Jordans; which are all 4am bars. Well, BJ Fellows used to be before Alsip wised up. I've already seen three fights and (to my memory) three people puke out in the open. If you man up and go to the parade, look for a someone with a green shamrock on their white/green hat outside or within Cork and Kerrys. Sideburns, about 6'2, black jacket. There will probably be a fair amount of people fitting that description, so just go up to everyone and say "Flash?" I'll be the one who doesn't punch you.
-
I'll be making an appearance at the parade. WoOt! What I hate is how it's expected to be around 34 degrees with snow showers. Screw standing out in the open watching the parade, which wouldn't have been the objective even if it were 50. I'll stand outside Cork and Kerrys, establish camp inside, and then probably drink for 10+ hours.
-
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX LOSER! haha Oh how it's been awhile since I've typed those words. I'll probably have a lot of practice this season, though.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) I wish there was a biggest gainers club cause I really want to gain at least 20 pounds before the summer... (football related) If enough people are willing to jump aboard I'd support it. I'm 6'2, about 160. That's no joke either. I could use 20 pounds.

Has anyone ever done High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)? If you haven't, google it and take it under consideration. I'm in the peculiar position of training to gain weight, but meanwhile burning excess fat. I didn't want to abandon cardio workouts in the process, either. So I found HIIT and decided to try it out tonight since the temperature outside was around 40. And let me just say, it knocks the living hell out of you. The concept behind the entire program is running at maximum effort for a short period of time, walking for several minutes, then repeating the process. I would run as fast as I could for 15 seconds and rest for roughly two minutes. It seemed fairly easy in the beginning. After about set four I could no longer run at 100%, but I trudged along anyways. Then the maximum effort decreased, and the breaks became longer than two minutes. By the time I got to my 8th set I was about to pass out. Couldn't do anymore. People swear by this, and judging from just one day I wouldn't blame them. My entire body is exhausted; and I'm in shape. I previously would jog at a moderate pace for 30 minutes. The only reason I abandoned jogging was it seemed to be holding back my muscle growth. It's a good program and I"m sure people such as Tru have heard of it.
