  1. QUOTE (bullpenHeat @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) 8 Chicago White Sox Gordon Beckham SS Georgia He wasn't supposed to be available at this spot, so the White Sox must be thrilled. He can play second base, but there's a good chance he stays at shortstop. He has tremendous baseball instincts. He'll probably move pretty quickly through the system. He instantly becomes the best prospect in the organization the day he signs. Thats keith laws input. He might be dumb, but he knows more than any of us. This would have been true whether we selected 8th or 28th. Not only a compliment to his abilities, but just the terrible status of our system. I'm hoping we use our latter selections to sign a few overslot players. We'll have to wait until 86 to find out.
  2. I'll be interested in watching who drafts Shooter Hunt. Great arm. Hope Minnesota doesn't draft him.
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) Yay! We got a right handed hitting version of Chris Getz! Awesome! Who needs a switch hitting power hitter who could be in the bigs by 2010? I believe Beckham can easily be in the big leagues by 2010. Smoak's value is obviously plummeting. What I like about this draft is none of the large market teams are going to have a Top 5 talent dropping to them.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) We heard your "regret" post the first time. Seriously, you could have said that about ANY player they drafted. I hope they don't regret this selection. Three times.
  5. I hope we don't look back on the draft in the coming years and regret not taking Smoak or Crow....
  6. I'll just say this -- Smoak better not turn out to be a superior selection to Beckham. What worries me is we're looking at this as more as a player who advances quickly then someone who ultimately turns out to be a superstar.
  7. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if we nab Beckham. I wouldn't be opposed to it. It's not a ridiculous overdraft, I just wonder how Beckham is projected as a shortstop. Is he a potential superstar?
  8. If Smoak is our selection (which all indications seem to be), and he turns into anything of value, just remember our terrible 2007 had something of value. Uh oh. Alonso gone. Now we'll have the temptation to select Beckham.
  9. QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) please take wallace over smoak. ORLY? You're one of the few I've heard suggest this.
  10. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) I am absolutely convinced that the Sox will take Castro. It just seems like their MO. If I read correctly, Regier is in charge of the draft this year after Wilder got fired. I am also convinced that he will be a bust, and we will complain about not being able to pick high again for a few years. LOLLERCAUST. Don't even say that.
  11. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) Why exactly are they letting the clock go down. They know who they want to pick. This is dumb. Hey Mick, get in the chat.
  12. Thirty five minutes until we select! Awesome!
  13. Draft day chat, anyone? http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat
  14. Awesome, we'll have to wait a minimum of fourty minutes before our pick!
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) IF Posey is asking for 12 mill than this whole draft is f'd. That is a lot of guys asking for ridiculous bonuses. Then take the risk of losing one slot next year. I don't want to hear whining about slot bonuses from the White Sox. It'll literally make me sick. Pay the f***ing people their money. We're in no position to be complaining with our embarrassing lack of talent. If Posey for example were paid 12 million, which I really doubt, think about that amount(when added with pre arbitration/arbitration salaries) if he even becomes an average ballplayer. It'll still be cheaper than somehow finding a catcher and paying him 7 million per year.
  16. If Konerko can't win this game off the pitcher he hqw owned then we're screwed.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:22 PM) Where's LOLaiza Haha. I wish I could somehow ensure the White Sox win, but it goes into the 20th inning and one of our positional players have to pitch.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) At least the sheer entertainment value of this game is getting higher at this point. That's all you can hope for. I just want to hear Hawk say "I have NEVER seen this in all my years" at something from this point forward It'd be hilarious if Loaiza comes out throwing 75 mph fastballs.
  19. LOAIZA TIME!!! The fans in the outfield stands better be ready.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) Oz won't be embarrassed. Dotel will lose it this inning in the rain. Looks like Guillen will have to be embarrassed because of Ramirez's selfishness.
  21. Dotel is the last pitcher in the bullpen? ROFLCOPTER I'm interested in seeing this game go on longer just for the comedic value. Guillen should know better in the future than to use Masset, his long man, for a short period of time.
  22. Damn, the only problem with Dye at second is we'll need atleast another double to score him. s***.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Weather? Yeah, but it seems to be moving east. Haven't checked any weather reports, though. Can no longer hear the thunder and can faintly see the lightning.
  24. This game better be decided soon, because all hell is breaking loose south of here.
