  1. Anyone else watch the ESPN's introduction to the Tigers/Yankees game? I felt like vomiting with rage after the literal cheerleading for Derek Jeter as MVP. One of the announcers says, "as the season goes on, it looks more and more clear Derek Jeter is the MVP." It does? Apparently, Dye's accomplishments are ignored by half of the East Coast. I have no problem annointing the more deserving candidate MVP. But REGARDLESS of ridiculous intangibles such as "picking up teammates following Matsui and Sheffield leaving" or making a jump/flip to 1st base, the statistics should determine the true winner. These two announcers are slurping him to an almost shameful degree. Nothing I would love more than Jeter to go through a huge September slump. I'm looking for a situation where Jeter/Dye are compared on ESPN, and every category benefits Dye. Then I can laugh when someone says Jeter still deserves it.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) not to mention the 43-3 male to female ratio! Simple solution for that. If watching TV shows from the 1950s has taught me anything, forums devoted to cleaning and cooking should bring in a swarm of women.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) No way? Not Who Are You or Baba O'Reilly?? I have no independent confirmation, but listening to a local radio station last week (97.1, for those familar), it was mentioned as their most successful US single. Surprised me as well. Reminds me of VH1 mentioning how Jimi Hendrix and The Grateful Dead both could be considered "one hit wonders," as neither had two songs climb above 20 in the billboard charts.
  4. What "Jimbo" (or rather, his son) should do is invest money into space on the East Side of the Dan Ryan. Unless there's some vacant location in close proximity to the part I'm unware of, it wouldn't be a terrible idea. Hell, it may be several years before the area is built up, but pick in ideal spot and he'll be right in the middle of a huge economic rebirth.
  5. The Who's most successful US single was "I Can See For Miles." Wouldn't have guessed that.
  6. African American's comprise 13% of the United States population yet only 4% of Soxtalk? Unacceptable. If this website were a legitimate company it'd have to diversify itself.
  7. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) It's really disappointing conisdering what Cotts did last year. He was lights out! His troubles can explained in one simple word -- delivery. I've never had a comparison to draw from until I picked up my friends copy of the World Series DVD yesterday. In it, it's quite noticeable the difference from October opposed to now. As of recently, his follow throw is one continuous motion. Last season, and years past, there was a noticeable delay before his release. A sort of pump action. I have NO idea why Neal abandoned this, considering its been used his entire career, but its needs to be readopted. We're witnessing what Cotts is capable of without deception. MEAT. When a sneaky fastball isn't sneaky, and there's no viable secondary pitch, he's no better than Cliff Politte.
  8. There must be something scouts picked up on from last season into this one. What could it be?! His velocity is similar. He's pitching similar sequences of fastball fastball fastball. Oh wait, that's it -- he's been attempting to get by on merely a "sneaky", straight fastball and no secondary pitch to speak of.
  9. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) SOOOO glad we got a guy like Mr. Garcia that can hold a SEVEN run lead in the SECOND inning. My god, this guy is a worthless piece of s***. Yep, holding onto him throughout the trading deadline was a TREMENDOUS decision. McCarthy couldn't have -- at the worst -- duplicated his statistics.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 09:00 PM) Garza's pitched pretty well again tonight for the Twinkies. Too bad for them they've been shutout by Redman. Good for us though. Who didn't expect Garza to pitch well? It was inevitable from the moment he was drafted. They know what they're doing over there. If we don't begin producing comparable talent, these next few years won't be pretty. But that's for another thread.
  11. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) Think they're gonna run on Freddie? Run Like Hell. I predict 5 SB's tonight.
  12. TB: 2-1 KC: 2-1 BOS: 1-2 CLE: 1-3 LAA: 1-2 OAK: 1-2 DET: 2-1 SEA: 3-1 CLE: 1-2 MIN: 1-2 15 - 17 record. Buehrle faces both Oakland and Boston if probables remain untouched. These can be considered automatic losses against teams who traditonally give us trouble. "Doom and gloom" nature of this post is merely based upon our subpar starting pitching and the strength of opponents faced down the stretch. Even Cleveland worries me. I don't believe they'll lay down for us. Last series in Minnesota, I'm willing to bet a sweep if Liriano returns to their rotation. Now, how long until someone tells me to quit watching this season if I don't believe they'll make it to the playoffs?
  13. What I remember from this particular system is last year, AFTER the division was clinched, their playoff projections putting us at a 97% of winning the division. This wasn't a mistake either. What made it funnier is someone, can't recall the exact authors name, said (paraphrasing) "just because the White Sox have supposedly clinched doesn't mean it's correct." It was ridiculous, lol.
  14. I wonder if anyone is willing to compare such an action to psychological torture? No need for green, either.
  15. Round Two!!!111 1. Tom Petty -- Don't Do Me Like That 2. Zombies -- She's Not There 3. Doors -- I Can't See Your Face In My Mind 4. Dilated Peoples ft. Kanye West -- This Way 5. Badfinger -- Day After Day 6. Jay-Z -- U Don't Know 7. Paul Revere and The Raiders -- Kicks 8. Fabulous -- Trade It All Pt. 2 9. Guess Who -- These Eyes 10. The Young Rascals -- A Beautiful Morning Number 11 was the theme song from Lost Boys. Just missed the list. Sorry Northside
  16. And you all know what's best about tomorrows game? Mark Buehrle is the pitcher responsible for avoiding a sweed, avoiding a 2/12 game deficit in the Wild Card, and avoiding an EMBARRASING three game sweep at home during a crucial stretch of baseball. Knowing how these games have progressed, I'm sre a loss will occur in the most excruciating way possible.
  17. McCarthy's 5 innings of work this evening has made an impression upon me. I say with more certaintly now than previous posts he's been throwing side sessions. Would it make sense for McCarthy not to pitch for nearly a week, then 2 innings August 22, then 5+innings (63 pitches) four days later? If this is mere coincidence brought on by Contreras' ineffectiveness, it's an indictment on management for pushing Brandon following supposed "shoulder tightness."
  18. QUOTE(BainesRules @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 03:18 AM) A lot of fans on here seem to think if you're negative, you're not a real fan. Well guess what, I am a bigger fan than almost any of you, and I am 100% positive this team will finish in 3rd place and out of the playoffs. I will continue to follow and cheer for them, as I have for the last 25 years, but I'm not going to be some blind optimist. First sentence was good. Second sentence? Not so much. The problem with this particular argument is criticizing "blind optimists" is no different than suggesting, with 100% certaintly, they'll miss the playoffs. I'm not very optimistic of our chances either, but I wouldn't say it's inevitable we'll fall short. It's not over yet. I doub they'll finish "well out of the playoffs" short of a monumental collapse the remaining games. However, if our team wins 88, I'll admit it would definitely be the most disappointing Sox team of my life. I'm not very confident of our future either. Whether people want to admit it, Minnesota and Detroit are in FAR better position to compete from 2006 onwards. Young, talented starting rotations comprised of legitimate arms kicks the crap out of our veteran, expensive, soft-tossing lineup. Unless we're having a few Lirianos or Garza emerge, overpaying for pitching on the market, or trading prospects for starters, the next several years aren't going to be pretty IMO. World Series success may extend another few seasons. I wouldn't worry about such an immediate dropoff in fan appeal. Don't buy into the "smartball" success. It was solely our starting pitching which carried our ballclub through the season/playoffs. Without pitching? We're not last years team, and certaintly not a World Series winner.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) Nagin is a jackass who makes a great point. The handling of WTC site has been pretty piss poor. A lot of government agencies and a developer fighting about what goes on at a site around it. The Empire State building was built top to bottom within one year. Five years after 9/11 and they're just starting to work on a foundation for a building that hasn't had its final design made yet. Where he'll run into trouble isn't the underlying message of his quote, but insensitively referring to the World Trade Center as a "hole in the ground." His characterization of WTC would be similar to me labeling New Orleans a "puddle." Government agencies and developers are fighting because victims families have united to throw their weight around. Collaboration between various agencies, contractors, etc., and families is difficult because you can't exactly tell these people frankly what you desire. I don't mean to sound insensitive, but from previous WTC proposals and proceding responses I've read, families demand a sizable portion of perhaps the most profitable land in the United States to remain a memorial. Not realistic.
  20. Shuffling over 600 songs, here's top 10 selected: 1. Duran Duran -- Ordinary World 2. Jay Z -- Encore 3. Manfred Mann -- For You 4. Four Tops -- (Reach Out) I'll Be There 5. Pink Floyd -- Keep Talking 6. Yardbirds -- Heart Full Of Soul 7. Deep Purple -- Perfect Strangers 8. Byrds -- Eight Miles High 9. Jethro Tull -- Teacher 10. Crosby, Stills, Nash -- Wooden Ships
  21. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) He has had a sore should per Cooper on the radio and is now available. Yet wasn't available tonight to replace Vazquez? I'm becoming very aggrivated with this situation.
  22. What really is a testiment to Minnesota's talent and determination is how they've continue winning WITHOUT Liriano. Without one of the best (perhaps the best) pitcher in baseball.
  23. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) Wow Rongey is just making himself look more like a moron. "Its going to be tough to win tomorrow since we probably won't score more than 3 or 4 runs." "Ross Gload being sent and thrown out looked like it wasn't a bad decision at the time." Anyone believe opposing teams/fans make those assumptions towards our starting pitchers? Tomorrow, they have to defeat Santana. I don't care how difficult it is. Make it happen. More than deciding the series and affecting wild-card position, defeating Santana (legitimately-- that means more than 2 runs and scraping it out) would be beneficial for our psyche entering the last series of the season. You know he'll be there, ready to face us.
  24. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) Of course Rongey doesn't address the McCarthy question. Is he injured or what? Why can't anyone within the media answer the question, or management answer it? Someone on this board mentioned Cooper citing McCarthy's "sore shoulder" as an excuse, but then why haven't there been any newspaper reports about it? Have I just missed them?
  25. Absolutely PITIFUL loss. We could have pulled within 4 1/2 of Detroit and seperated a game between ourselves and Minnesota. Our players choked tonight. And wouldn't you know, we're out of the wild-card lead as well with Santana pitching tomorrow. I suppose this begins the fatalism within Soxtalk. "Santana is pitching, there's a "L." They better win. This game is similar to the series in Minnesota with Bonser. First game should have been ours, but instead, was a loss and set the tone for the series. Need to rebound tomorrow.
