  1. This offensive showing tonight is pathetic. I'll use this line every occasion we're shut down by a pitcher--if you can battle off Santana, you should be able to battle off ANYONE. What I've seen tonight from our hitters is pathetic. Watch Washburn's next three starts go something like this: 7IP/4ER, 8IP/3ER, 6IP/5ER. He's not a scrub, but I don't believe he's capable of shutting down our offense through 6 innings with 2 hits--one which shouldn't have occured. Nice going Buehrle. Way to step up.
  2. We absolutely need a run out of this situation. Atleast one.
  3. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) Buerhle's inning has nothing to do with Widger. It has to do with him hitting a guy and getting a ball up to Lopez. I agree, Widger or not Buehrle is pitching. He shouldn't have hit a batter to load the bases. What I hope Widger realizes is Seattle obviously has a plan of concentrating on the outside corner of the plate. Or atleast they did last inning. Three opposite field hits should tell you to begin pitching inside.
  4. Aces limit damage. It's time for ours to keep this lead at 3 runs. Step it up, Buehrle. Tonight, the offense may not give you 10 runs to work with.
  5. www.soxtalk.com/chat. Several of us in there now for anyone interested.
  6. I wonder if Pierzynski or Widger could even handle Haeger. He's definitely not a pitcher you call-up midseason and throw out on the mound without preparation. Hell, look at Josh Bard--he's worked with Wakefield all spring and still has trouble handling the knuckleball.
  7. This strikezone by Hernandez is ridiculous. It was fairly even for both teams throughout must of the game, but I've noticed how the strikezone these last two innings has been noticeably in favor of Seattle. How many strikes was Guardado the recepient of, 3? Cotts had two obvious strikes this inning not called, and Pierzynski had to worry about an extra five inches on the outside corner. Atleast keep it fair.
  8. I don't believe what I just saw. Down to his LAST strike and Anderson hits a HR. That's just unbelievable. If I typed within this thread what I said in the chatroom, you people would have enough crow to serve me for a f***ing week.
  9. Of all the players to face Garland in the 8th inning, why does Guillen leave him in for Ibanez? God dammit, this just pisses me off.
  10. I feel naked without my sideburns. Due to an impending job interview I had to rush a haircut. Upon arrival, the typical barber I've been going to for 10 years had a day off. Another woman did a fine job, but removed my sideburns in the process. Basically, the top of my ear lobe currently lines up with the hairline. Damn b****.
  11. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) hilarious! These guys look like they are from Staten Island...not the South Side... this guy is clearly being funny... LOL, yeah, in the original post he says the picture was taken at Jimbos, and in the bottom right corner there's clearly a caption which says, "www.clubitup.com"
  12. You should already know where this thread is going to lead. Some members will question your motive and criticize your broad generazation of 'Muslim silliness' based upon a fanactical element. Others will cite odd rituals Christians have done. Personally, I don't believe this issue is much of a concern. Dismantling a toliet secition and rebuilding it for religious purposes soundes rather tame compared to suicide bombings. If it shuts them up, go right ahead. Not our taxpayer money at work.
  13. Prior to this evening's game, I would have suggested the hitch/hesitation was a late reaction to offspeed pitches. In such instances, I thought Anderson was assuming fastball, and attempting to adjust to anything else. It always gave me the impression he was in between every AB. One moment against Brad Radke last season he had a ridiculous emergency swing relating to this concept. It's the first moment I noticed it. But then tonight, against someone where you'd expect the same hesitation, he didn't show it. Perhaps Walker has put in extra time with Anderson. He should commit himself completely to a swing. Don't adjust midstride, since it's impossible to expect success.
  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Who changed their story? The accuser hasnt said a word. I don't believe Sam was referring to the accuser. Rather, the accuser's colleague orginally told police she doubted the alleged rape occured. It was only after the defense team released photos of the supposed victim she changed her mind. Reading her quote, she wasn't there--has no proof--yet believes something occured. Funny how she would never admit raped occured, yet in the next sentence replies: "In all honestly, I think they're guilty." Well, what exactly are they guilty of stripper #2?
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) I love that this thread is still going. Heres an idea, deal Gload to the cubs for Scott Williamson. It's scary--I was thinking the same exact thing. And why not? Considering the position they're in regarding Lee's 2 month absence, and Walker's already questionable defense, Gload would be their best option. The Cubs' bullpen is solid, but you can't be too picky following the loss of an MVP caliber player. I just wonder if Hendry can tolerate such a scenario which doesn't involve an obvious fleecing of another club. You know he's already contacted his buddies across the National League Central for help. When Lee returns, it's not as if Gload's situation will be any different from here. Hell, Gload would likely find more opportunities as a pitch hitter.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) Tizzle isn't gonna like this. We won't be able to draft "our" Hernandez, Liriano, or Verlander. Hey, if you're going to use Flashisms atleast get them right. I realize our draft position over the last 10+ years hasn't helped, but more than this is our complete lack of Latin American scouting--where both Liriano (DR) and Hernandez (Venezuela) were signed. As mentioned within numerous threads, name me the last legitimate prospect we've developed from Latin America? Carlos Lee? It's ridiculous how an area of the world producing such a large percentage of major leaguers cannot give us anything in over 12 years. If you seemingly ignore scouting south of Texas, you never give yourself an opportunity to sign a Liriano or Hernandez. This is my concern. We're missing out on some amazing talent.
  17. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Buehrle is going to command at least 15 million a year in the 5-7 year range if he does hit the open market in the 2007 offseason. A left-handed SP who is an almost lock for 200+ IP and a 120 ERA+ --teams will be all over that. If he goes for the money, I don't think the Sox will be able to bring him back--nor should they if he gets offered a deal over 5 years and decides to take it. The smart thing to do would be to throw 70 million over 5 years at Mark this offseason, and see if he takes it. If he doesn't well then the Sox pick up his option and wish him the best in his future endeavors. If he's searching for the highest bidder, fine--it's understandable--but he could conceivably have another extended contract after a 5 year deal is agreed upon. Every player possessing talent has to realize they'd likely receive more on the open market. Santana thought enough of Minnesota to sign well below market value. I expect similar results from Buehrle. We offer him a respectable amount of money, I'll gua-ran-tee he'll return. Low-ball him and I'm sure we'll have another round of whining from the media and fans. I've said it before people in regards to contracts, this market isn't going to appease the White Sox. Often "fair" and " market value" won't apply to our standards. If we have to overpay, tough s***. If you can't depend upon Buehlre to give you value over the life of a contract, who can you trust? Develop a few quality pitching prospects once every decade and this problem wouldn't arise. For example--If Lumsden rebounds nicely from his injury and achieves success, suddenly, the Buehrle situation doesn't back us into a corner. Sure, he won't match IP/ERA/etc., but the 12+ million saved sounds nice. Ultimately, I don't want our organization to f*** this up. We're not talking about replacing a fifth starter--we're talking about our ace. Williams decides to let Buehrle leave, he DAMN well better have an equal replacement available. Trade him and I expect several top pitching prospects. Let's not forget Garcia will likely depart this ballclub following next season. Unlike Burly-mon, however, I'm hoping they let Garcia walk or trade him prior to FA. If you look at our other starters, Garland won't give us much whereas Count and Vazquez will likely remain. McCarthy can be expected to match Garcia's numbers as it is. You build teams around players like Buehrle, you don't let them walk when they're 27 years old.
  18. LOL, make it 10-7. Thank you Corey Patterson.
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) 6-3 Indians Just like that it's 8-7 Orioles. I have no idea how, they've scored these runs in a flash.
  20. I will not accept any excuse regarding a contract extension and Buehlre. I don't even want to hear anyone suggest bulls*** such as "Oh, he really wants to pitch for St. Louis--it's his dream!!!" Money will ultimately decide this issue. And since Buehrle is relatively young, I hope the White Sox ATLEAST negotiate one more sizable contract. Have him for 5+ years, then when he's 33/34, we can assess the situation from there. Perhaps another pitcher will come along making him expendable. Or maybe he'll slowly regress and won't warrant another extension. Who knows. But as of 2006, it's obvious his belongs on this ballclub far beyond next year. Don't screw it up, Williams/Reinsdord.
  21. Buehrle doesn't accurately fit the statistical representation of an ace pitcher. While his ERA and WHIP are respectable (both are ranked within top 10 in the AL), he'll annually have hit totals approaching/exceeding IP. And sexy strikeout numbers will never be there. I'm guessing since this list is compiled by a Baseball Prospectus writer using their methods, PECOTA doesn't look too foundly upon Buehrle's success. I'm positive there's an indication our defense from last season assisted him. Also, I wouldn't have placed prospects on the list unless they're absolute can't misses. How can you mention someone who hasn't had one major league AB over an established player in the league? I'll give you one name Nate Silver missed--and he's chilling in my avatar right now. Sure deserves a citation over any prospect. But since no relievers were mentioned, and Liriano currently fits that description, they must have avoided his inclusion by design.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Doesn't matter how hard he throws. Bmac's mechanics are actually pretty damn good, and as fathom mentioned, he doesn't throw a pitch that's hard on his arm like the cross the body slider that Wood throws. Wood was also abused by his high school baseball coaches during a crucial time in his physical development. Certaintly his awkward mechanics didn't help avoid arm issues. Personally, I've always considered Garcia's pitching motion violent, but he's yet to experience any significant arm injuries. Conditioning plays an important role in maintaining arm strength. We appear to have this concept down well. I wouldn't be concerned with McCarthy.
  23. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) haha i read this interview for the movie on rottentomatoes.com "Have you seen the trailer? If so, then that's as close to watching the movie as you should get." I should have known something was wrong when yesterday was the first time I've heard of the movie. After reading it's back cover, I assumed entertainment would consist of senseless distruction and violence. Basically, a typical action movie where you can turn you brain off for nearly two hours. I also noticed earlier IMDB members haven't been too kind. Really should have held up renting the movie. Definitely an impuse move. Only alternative (or so I thought), since King Kong, Chronicles, and Wolf Creek were unavailable.
  24. Yesterday, I rented perhaps the worst movie I've seen in recent memory, "A Sound of Thunder." The special effects featured in this movie rival Tron. And atleast Tron had an excuse, since they happened to be the best available in the early 80's. The plot itself is based upon time travel theories featured in Simpsons, Butterfly Effect, etc. An eccentric millionaire finances the creation a device capable of sending its wealthy clients back into time. Specifically, several hundred million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Purpose of such an expensive trip is to merely shoot and kill a dinosaur before it falls within a tar pit. Summarizing the supposed physics involved, which aren't too complicated--you can't bring anything back, leave anything behind, or disturb the order of the past world. Any small difference creates a ripple effect with drastic consequences. In this movie, stepping on one butterfly creates havoc beyond comprehension. Not exactly what happened to Homer when he crushed the mosquito, but still a noticeable difference in the world. Its story is what drew me to renting it. Interesting enough, I thought. Yeah, I was wrong. The effects are so bad, it just's too hard to take anything seriously. I've never considered special effects alone to decide a movie's merit, but since we're in 2006, I expect more from a major motion picture. Especially one where SE are critical to the storyline. I never intended to rent the movie for it's insight into the discussion of time travel. I was just looking to be entertained. Which it failed miserably at.
  25. This request was bound to happen eventually. It should be a clear indication of the organizations interest in maintaing Buehrle's health. (Contract extension forthcoming?) Enticing fans onto the field doesn't help matters. Everyone knows our organization would be absolutely ripped in the media if Buehrle injured his arm/shoulder during a slide. See, if Lance Broadway were sliding, no one would care. It just happens to be one of our best pitchers participating in rain delay theather. Yes, it's fun--but because of their vested interest in his arm it's important to forbid such actions. You can't control what happens outside of the ballpark. Inside, however, you should do everything possible to limit injuries. I'd like to know how many other clubs in major league baseball would allow their aces to slide across tarps? I'd bet none. What I don't really agree with is Williams threatening a fine. I can't guess the tone in which the comment was made, but hopefully it was a cautious reminder. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.
