A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
ron883 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jose has been just terrible this year. Seems like it started late last year. I wish wasn't dead on with my prediction about Jose. We could use his bat -
IMO, there are two moves that can help the team without trading. 1. Call up Coats and dfa Sands. Put Costs in LF and DH Melky. Send avi down to AAA. If Jackson is gone for a bit, just put Eaton back in CF and coats in RF. Coats is a plus defender in the corners, and is pillaging AAA. 2. Fire Robin. Promote Renteria. Simple but won't happen. What moves do you think would help that wouldn't involve a trade?

White Sox need to learn from the Cubs with the Shark trade. Frazier for a year and a half has a ton of value. Think they try to flip him at the deadline? Nick Delmonico is possibly knocking on the door, and Brett Lawrie can take 3B with Sanchez getting ABs at 2nd. Ideal? No, but the Sox aren't doing s*** this year. It's time to think about selling on some players.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron

Hate to say it, but I told you all so. I don't want him to fail, I could just tell by how poorly he looked. Abreu has been pure trash this year. -
2 hr for Delmonico. He is absolutely destroying AA. He is only 23 too. Do we have a legit hitter in the making?

Coats needs to come up and be our LF. Melky can be DH. Avi traded for scraps -

Anybody change there opinions? Remember when I was ridiculed, but it turns out was totally right -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 20, 2016 -> 06:33 AM) Hillary said it was terrorism too. Do you really think people being briefed on national security don't know this yet? There's literally nothing "crazy" about what he said considering it lines up perfectly with what we do know. He said it got blown up. That has been proven to be false. Not sure what is unclear to you. You sound like one of the supporters that will believe anything he says.

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 20, 2016 -> 06:25 AM) He has the lowest walk rate of any player in the League, 5 in a 165 at bats. I don't understand the reasoning that it should improve, in the Big Leagues. That seems counter intuitive to me. MLB pitchers do indeed have better control, therefore unless he acquires better plate discipline, that weakness is likely to be exploited, to a greater degree. He is making contact at a terrific rate, right now. However, pitchers are going to start throwing him more pitches out of the zone, unless he can demonstrate that he can lay off of them. He may be getting base hits, but not many of them for extra bases. He did have that one stretch where he homered in 3 consecutive games, but outside of that, he hasn't hit a lot of doubles and triples. Maybe that's because it's hard to really drive balls, that aren't thrown in the strike zone. Moreover, his lack of patience at the plate is a very negative factor, for a leadoff hitter, which is where he supposedly best fits. He will need a much higher OBP, and work deeper into counts, if he bats at the top of the order. Where can his stats for number of pitches per at bat be found, for Minor League hitters? I can't seem to find it. I'm sorry guys, I just don't get why he is so highly ranked, as a prospect. I've heard the line about "athleticism" far too many times, when it comes to sox prospects. I prefer a baseball player with a high baseball accumen and baseball skills, not a great athlete. I'm not saying that he might not become a good player, but I don't get all of the hype. If the right trade comes along, and the price is our #2 prospect, I'd pull the trigger. Maybe the fact that he is our #2 prospect says more about the sorry state of our Farm system, than it does about how good he is. After all, he is still not even in the top 10 SS prospects in baseball. Obp isn't everything... the guy consistently hits around or over 300. He has elite speed, really good bat speed, and above average potential at SS. I think he is more of a #2 hitter personally. You are focusing wayyy too much on the one negative of him, his average obp. Not every prospect will light it up their try at a new level in the minors. He is young for AAA and is playing pretty darn well . Not sure why you are so down on him.

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) Is he ever going to learn to take an occassional walk? In 155 at bats, he has 5 walks!! That, and his questionable defense leaves me less than overwhelmed, in spite of the torrid pace, at which he has hit in his last 10 games. I'm afraid that I'm a little "old school," but I prefer an elite defender at SS. Unless he is going to become a better than .300 hitter, with an OBP north of .350, he is probably not going to be a top SS, because of his defense. He's 22 with elite athleticism. Seems like he gets better at SS each year too. He'll be OK.

I'm 25 and have only heard of one of the players hawk referenced there. His stories just make me laugh at this point -
Watch out. I made a similar topic and was shunned because of it.

You'll see, I'm going to be right. Abreu can't lay off the breaking ball outside. I'm going to bump this up when he is in a slump, and I'll bump it at the end of the year when he puts up his worst year yet statistically. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) As always, if you are curious about a White Sox prospect, first stop can be the Prospect Profiles page on Future Sox. Here's the profile on Danny specifically. Haha I've already read that a couple times. I'm just wondering if anybody has seen him or has any other input on him. I always check out futuresox prospect profiles first. That site is impressively good. Haven't seen any other prospect site specific to a team that competes with that. Seriously, great job to anybody who contributes to that site. It is really awesome and I appreciate the time people put into it so I can stay educated on my prospects.
-
Does anybody have any input on Danny Hayes? I see great defense and good obp skills. Is he still a prospect at this point? Is any .800 ops out of him at 1b/dh too crazy to predict? You hate to move Jose to dh, but if Hayes keeps playing well and is a good defender, solidifying that infield defense even more is a mouthwatering idea.

I think they give Danny Hayes a shot this season. He's a better defender than Jose, anyway

Danny Hayes is raking in AAA

QUOTE (harkness @ May 2, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) That is one of the worst calls I've seen in my two years of soxtalk. Totally blew that call. I can tell people are going to stick to their guns no matter what. They like making the show about them. I'm not even saying he is better or worse overall. But he is for sure without a doubt more mellow the past couple years. Mercy! is all I can say really... Nice try Hawk

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) Does Danks really seem to you like a guy who would go up there and say 'f*** it, Imma suck this year'? I have never heard anything bad about Danks' personality. Sure, but how do you know he goes out there and wants to be good for the team more than anybody? That could be Eaton or Lawrie for all we know. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) I have always liked Danks. I remember when he was good and probably let loyalty cloud things just a bit. I feel sport for Danks as I know no one wants to be good out there for the team more than he does How do you know that? Did he tell you? -
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I have no idea what we can offer these teams, besides salary relief. Agreed. Our system has looked really bad this year... The shark trade is painful right now.

Hearing Jason next to Stone has been a joy. Hawk just keeps getting worse and worse. It is nice hearing a color guy that can actually provide some solid input. I can't wait for Hawk to retire. What have you guys thought of Jason so far?

He seems totally clueless at the plate this year. Fastball in, slider away, Jose gone. Very disappointing stuff.
