QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) he is the only sp the sox can depend on, as of right now. i want him to succeed, b/c i want the sox to win. Only starting pitcher Sox can depend on? What? -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) Rozner was telling a story about Noesi that I hadn't heard before. I knew that the White Sox liked him in the past but Rozner said something interesting this weekend. He said that when the White Sox were killing Noesi last season, Ken Williams called the dugout phone and told Cooper to watch him. Supposedly, Ken Williams said " We are going to have this guy next week and I know what is wrong with him". Then Ken Williams and Cooper broke down film and looked at the mechanics. Rozner mentioned that the White Sox think he is a rotation piece and not just some filler. He was coveted by the Sox for a long time. That is really interesting. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) I'm reading some reports now. I like some of what I see - good plate discipline, power. There may be better defenders. Looks like names of college C's to watch right now include him, Jameson Fisher (SE Lou), Shaun Chase (ORE), Luke Lowery (ECU), Korey Dunbar (UNC). None of them appear to be guys who'd go in the first 4 rounds, so they are all possibilities. Based on what? Definitely to keep some eyes on with these catchers. Ward is a junior, what are those other 4? If seniors then possibly go under slot also with them.

Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 15m15 minutes ago Robin said team could break camp with 8 relievers Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 13m13 minutes ago Robin Ventura sounds very open to starting season with eight relievers. Bench flexibility makes it possible. #WhiteSox Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 8m8 minutes ago With versatility of Bonifacio and Beckham, assuming Johnson or Sanchez start at second, could go with 8 relievers at outset Interesting. Thoughts?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) He is still looking for the Jays to deal him. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/02/...s-to-trade-him/ Sox killer, but I'm content with the Sox catchers right now. I don't think Navarro is much of an upgrade to give up prospects for.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) Edwards is the one I don't get. He doesn't seem any more appealing than Montas. And a lot of people project Edwards to be a bullpen piece because he's 6'3 155 soaking weight.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 02:35 AM) Pokka, Johns.. any of them would be better than Roszival at this point. Hell, even Oduya has been brutal this year. Then you add in Shaw being our worst forward on the team this year, regular season Bickell, Ben Smith taking 3 steps back, Sharp looking like he doesn't give a s***, etc. and you have a team that is not that elite this season. I would not be surprised to see both these guys in the every day line up next season. Pokka has had a great season so far and Johns was doing good until a injury sidelined him for a couple weeks. Wouldn't mind either one of them coming up in place of Oduya. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) i can see how a hs prospect may be ideal, but with the possibility of hawkins future not panning out as expected. i think it will be college rt this draft. but pitcher or positional . i would love to hear the sox FO discussing this. it is going to be a fun season. Difference is Hawkins was a 1st round pick. Im talking about taking a college arm or bat, preferably arm at 8, go under slot, and then have the savings to address the later rounds with HS talent kind of like what the Cubs did last year. If you can land a couple of Michaelczewski's in the later rounds, that's perfect. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Depending on what the picks in front of us look like, I see a better chance of us going underslot, and trying to use that to make up for the picks we don't have later in the draft. I agree 100%

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) this draft is gong to be tough to figure out in drafting. do the sox go for a sp to help the major league rotation in a couple yrs, do they go for a positional player or catcher. i think, imo, b/c the sox do not have 2 or 3 or 4 rounder, they may go for the best sp . You know doubt go best available college pitcher in my opinion. Then take some chances on some HS talent in rounds 4-10.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) I wasn't necessarily advocating going overslot. Just looking at leaning towards a certain position. Maybe slightly over if that is what it takes. Did you see the catcher that I found for you Taylor Ward for Fresno State, I posted his stats so far this season on the last page.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) I have a question for the group to ponder. Would it beneficial to the White Sox to not be able to come to terms with their 1st rounder this year? It would only leave the team with picks in rounds 4-40 and the Sox would only have about $2 million to spend on the entire draft. My idea then would be to go nuts in International Spending this year. In this scenario, the White Sox would pick 9th next year and own their own 1st rounder. They may even have a third 1st rounder as compensation for Samardzija. The White Sox could have one of the biggest draft budgets ever by doing this. I know it would be tricky to pull this year and blatantly skirting the rules but it'd be an awesome strategy. Add a little talent to system through draft this year. Go nuts in International Market, spending way past the restriction and lose the ability for next year. (White Sox never do this) But in 2016, could have potentially 3 first rounders with lots of $$ to maneuver and no budget in International market. This would be awesome. Is this plan crazy? Well first, I really hope we are able to extend Samardzija. Second, is the 2016 draft stronger than the 2015 draft? Depends who's available too, because if they really like a guy in 15 draft that is available at 8 then take him.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) BAKE SALE!!! For some reason, I cried of laughter from reading this lolol.

C Taylor Ward so far this year. .357 AVG, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HRs, 10 RBIs in 7 games so far this year.

QUOTE (beautox @ Feb 22, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) I'm on the Fulmer / Matuella hype train. Just need one of those 3 to pan out as a #3 and one as a nice BP piece to consider it a win anything more and its gravy. Adding another arm this year at 8 will be huge. Its nice to dream on a rotation of Sale Samardzija Quintana Danish/Adams Rodon Fixed it for ya QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 07:57 AM) Especially with the 2nd and 3rd round picks gone this year, it's key to get the BPA in the 1st and probably for the 4th/5th too. But I would like to see the White Sox try to grab the best college catcher available starting around the 5th/6th round if they haven't grabbed one already. And another one sometime not too long after. Normally, you don't start filling gaps at specific positions until much later in the draft, like perhaps starting in the teens. And normally I agree with that. However, I do think that catching is an exception, because it is nearly impossible to trade for it. There are just so few long-term successful catchers, and so few catching prospects out there that look worthwhile, that teams aren't trading them. And the White Sox have, IMO, a dire lack of catching talent depth across the organization right now. I want to see that addressed if at all possible. So my question to this group is, who are the current college catchers at the top of people's draft boards? Just looked up an article back from June of last year, it looks like the top C college prospect is Taylor Ward from Fresno State.

We need more than 3 guys lol. Anyone else?

Daytona 500 is today. Jeff Gordon on the poll.

Crain threw from the mound again today and came off smiling. Man, if he's even half of what he was 2 years ago, Sox have a steal in the pen.

Corey Crawford with probably the most embarrassing goal this season to give up. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 11:23 PM) What about 5/120? QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 12:30 AM) I wouldn't be happy, but I'd hope we have a new TV deal in place or Jerry wins the lottery by that point. Yeah, I think that it is a bit too high. I would go 5/110 with a team option for a 6th year at 18 million.

Rodon came in at #16.
-
They are doing their top 50 right now on MLB Network while showing 51-100 on the bottom line. Anderson was in the low 90s. So only 2 Sox in the top 100 from BA. No word on where Rodon is ranked yet.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) But like usual, the Bulls sat and watched. Bulls are very interested in Kendrick Perkins lol and Gary Neal if he gets bought out.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) After I wrote that piece in October, I had a conversation (electronic) with Scott Merkin (MLB beat writer) about it. He said that the team was 100% convinced it was primarily a mental thing with Erik, FWIW. Haven't heard anything since though. We (FutureSox) are hoping to get someone out to ST in person this year to take some video etc., hopefully we can get a look at Johnson. If he can even become relevant again, like back of the end rotation potential. I would have no problem rolling out Sale, Samardzija (resigned), Quintana, Rodon, and Johnson every game. Those 5 would have a minimum of 5 years of control.
