Samardzija Extension?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 11:23 PM) What about 5/120? QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 12:30 AM) I wouldn't be happy, but I'd hope we have a new TV deal in place or Jerry wins the lottery by that point. Yeah, I think that it is a bit too high. I would go 5/110 with a team option for a 6th year at 18 million.

Rodon came in at #16.

Baseball America Top 30
They are doing their top 50 right now on MLB Network while showing 51-100 on the bottom line. Anderson was in the low 90s. So only 2 Sox in the top 100 from BA. No word on where Rodon is ranked yet.

FS: Seven Spring Training Storylines
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) After I wrote that piece in October, I had a conversation (electronic) with Scott Merkin (MLB beat writer) about it. He said that the team was 100% convinced it was primarily a mental thing with Erik, FWIW. Haven't heard anything since though. We (FutureSox) are hoping to get someone out to ST in person this year to take some video etc., hopefully we can get a look at Johnson. If he can even become relevant again, like back of the end rotation potential. I would have no problem rolling out Sale, Samardzija (resigned), Quintana, Rodon, and Johnson every game. Those 5 would have a minimum of 5 years of control.

FS: Seven Spring Training Storylines
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 10:16 AM) I don't see why not. But he is starting from behind. I completely agree, but it will be interesting to watch him this ST and see if he bounces back at all.

If Johnson has a good spring, anyone think he can overtake Noesi for the #5 spot?

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) That is interesting. Brad Biggs was on something a month or so ago, and said Ratliff was probably going to hit the road. He said he didn't play enough because of injuries. I guess he was wrong. Even with not a full season, Ratliff had a tremendous season when he was healthy and playing. Pace also mentioned that he sees a couple guys that could play NT in the 3-4 defense for the Bears. Have to think Ferguson and Paea and move Ratliff to DE right?

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) The first one lost me at the Astros taking Brady Aiken again at #2. If they are not able to sign him there they will lose the pick. The second makes some sense at this point based on the information going into the season. The third is plausible, but probably done by an Astros fan. The fourth seems pretty similar to the second. The fifth is reasonable as well. Of the five two have the sox landing Dansby Swanson and two have Kyle Funkhouser. The crazy one had the Sox take HS prep LHP Kolby Allard. I still think the Sox are going to go cheap on this pick and try to either get someone they like underslot like the Cubs did with Schwarber last year, or find a discounted guy like Jeff Hoffman, Lucas Giolito or Erick Fedde and then use the savings to be aggressive later in the draft. I agree completely. Would love to go under slot on a college pitcher/bat then be real aggressive in the later rounds on the HS talent.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) So far, so good with Fulmer, Funkhouser, Kirby and Matuella playing great. As last year showed, the more players with helium during the season, the better the chance someone drops to the Sox pick that likely should have gone higher. Plus, it'll be interesting to see how Walker Buelhler does this season. It's a very good chance one of these guys will fall to the Sox at 8.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 03:45 AM) I said a few months ago that my pick for offensive player would be Daz Cameron if they go HS, Ian Happ if they go college. And my pick for a pitcher would be Carson Fulmer. He seems to be impressing right now. Ian Happ has 2 HRs in 4 games for the Bearcats.

NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 17, 2015 -> 02:56 AM) Remember when this guy was THE story of the NCAA tourney in 2013? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Enfield Now 4-27 in his first 31 PAC-10 games. Could of told you that would happen. He was never that good of a coach and USC sucks. FGCU is doing just fine without him.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Carson Fullmer's 95 MPH heater, look at the movement on this thing, good god. https://twitter.com/cistulli/status/567449985122574337 That is just nasty. If he can develop that change up into an above average pitch, I would love if the Sox take him at 8. I don't care about his size.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) Have to agree. With Zimmerman and Fister being free agents after this year, they need Roark. Fister I can see resigning with the Nats as I can't see him costing as much as Zimmerman. My vote still goes to Beachy. Offer him what the Royals gave Medlen (he is under team control for two years, but we can guarantee him the second year if that's what it takes). I agree on Beachy, while he costs zero assets but cannot stay healthy for more than a year.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) I'd love Roark as our #4. I don't know what it'd take to get him, but make it happen Mr. Rick Hahn. A rotation of Sale/Shark/Q/Roark/Danks is nice. I'd love to add Roark for one because he is a good right handed pitcher who is only 28 and is under team control until 2020. And two, he attended Illinois and is an Illinois guy. I'd offer Beck, Hawkins, and Sanchez for Roark.
