Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) So you're saying C - Saltalamacchia 1B - Abreu 2B - Beckham/Semien SS - Ramirez 3B - Lawrie LF - Viciedo CF - De Aza RF - Garcia DH - Dunn is a legit offense? It's an improvement, but I still have my doubts as to whether that offense would score 650 runs. Honestly I truly believe it could be very good. And Beckham would probably be headed to Toronto also.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) I think Johnson is a terrible fit for this team unless a couple pitchers are traded away beforehand. Sorry for not classifying but yeah only sign Johnson if pitchers get traded.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) If we trade Santiago I am in for JJ but if not, let the youngins throw but your argument does preface a conversation about depth which I think is very important. All scenarios have Snodgress, Beck and Bassit as potential 2nd half starters depending on the trajectory of their respective seasons. Stay put: 1. Sale 2. Quintana 3. Danks 4. Santiago 5. Erik Johnson 6. Rienzo Trade Santiago and otherwise stay put: 1. Sale 2. Quintana 3. Danks 4. Johnson 5. Rienzo 6. Leesman (god forbid we take on the Axelrod experiment again) Trade Santiago and sign Josh Johnson: 1. Sale 2. Quintana 3. Josh Johnson 4. Danks 5. Erik Johnson 6. Rienzo I for one am not sold on Rienzo as a starter yet but similarly to EJ, I do like his mound presence and he's a very good 6th option. I would like to have the luxury of having him his refine his pitches as a starter in AAA. To me, it all comes down what the potential return could be on Hector and what kind of a position player we could get in return. As for Johnson, our track record with pitchers makes me want him bad. If health is the issue, no staff has been as good as ours in that respect. The guy still throws hard and has been ridiculously good for several years prior to last. While I don't agree with all of the posters who overstate the need for a RHSP at the expense of one of our LHSPs, it definitely doesn't hurt that JJ is RH. Looking at the last rotation, you basically know what you're getting from Sale and Quintana, we should expect improvement from Danks and if either Johnson plays to their full potential we have a top rotation that can handle an injury. I agree, my argument in getting Josh Johnson is in regards to depth if Sox do trade Santiago. I really think we can get Santiago and lesser prospects for Brett Lawrie. This happens and then sign Salty and Sox can have a legit offense

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
With Josh Johnson and Jarrod Saltalamcchia not receiving qualifying offers I feel like Hahn has to be all over these 2. Agree? I would do 4/40 max for Salty and 1/10 with an option for a 2n year.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) Hypothetically...if they signed McCann and that cost us our 2nd rounder anyway...would you be willing to lose a 3rd for Granderson? No. Don't want to give up picks
-
What do you want done with this team?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 3, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) Viciedo, Abreu and Ramirez recruit Yuliesky Gourriel to come and play 2B/3B and eventually replace Alexei when he leaves. That would be a good one. Who's that?

Sox likely to be quiet in free agency after Abreu
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 3, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) I like your thinking even though we both know getting one of those guys is a longshot and both is insane. I hate the idea of Abreu on an island in the Sox lineup. He just got off an island and thrust himself into another one in the middle of the order. Let's get some good players around the guy quickly before he gets discouraged. I agree. We cannot leave Abreu alone in the line up. Now the thought of Ellsbury and McCann is great but the Sox signing one of them is a long shot. We will most likely help Abreu through trade this off season. I know the Rockies GM has said they will not trade Carlos Gonzalez but I can still see Hahn make a decent offer. I would offer Santiago, De Aza, Beck, and Thompson. I know it probably wouldn't be enough, possibly add Hawkins?

Sox likely to be quiet in free agency after Abreu
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 2, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) Very underwhelming free agency class this year. Would anybody take a look at Sizemore? I know theres a good chance he ends up not playing or he just has nothing left, but what do we have to lose? Garcia>De Aza>Viciedo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sizemore....

Sox likely to be quiet in free agency after Abreu
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) Can you name any options who make sense? Zunino or buy low on Jesus Montero from the Mariners? D'Arnaud from the Mets? Those are all I can think of. But I don't see them giving them up
-
2 Realistic trade options I came up with
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 1, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) So perhaps Lynn and Kelly are the pitchers that other teams would/should be targeting. Only Mozeliak would have the answer to that question. I would gladly take Joe Kelly in a possible deal for Alexei. Kid has electric stuff

Sox likely to be quiet in free agency after Abreu
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) Santiago for Arenado is a great starting point for a deal that just makes too much sense for both sides. I just don't see the Rockies doing that. Yes they need pitching, but he played really well and even won himself a gold glove. He's their third basemen of the future
-
Khris Davis?
Just looked him up. Already 26. I'd rather take my chances with Viciedo for 2 more years.

Congratulations to Jake Peavy & Matt Thornton
Glad both get a ring. So happy of them. Both have had long established careers and now it has all paid off. Congrats to the both of them!

Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) 3 years 12 millions. 4 per roughly Thank you for the clarification.

Mlbfarm.com
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) Awesome site, thanks for the tip. I'll be wasting a lot of my time there. Ortiz is a guy I'll be following very closely. Outside of Danish, he and Olacio have perhaps the greatest upside of our lower minors arms. Very projectionificable. I think Montas can go into that category. The kid has electric stuff. Just needs to control it all.

Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) Agreed, and that can change. Even if not, 4 million is hardly an albatross. Didn't Keppinger sign a 3 year deal worth 18 million? 6 million each year? But, if Hahn can pull off a deal speculating with the Jays. Wow

Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) Yes. Lawrie and Beckham are very different. The "bad" Lawrie post-rookie year is better than the best of post-rookie Beckham and is much younger at a position we have nobody at. If the Jays agreed to flip them straight up, I'd get it done before AA came down from his high. If Santiago and Beckham can get Stroman and/or Sanchez thrown in, I'd give Hahn a lifetime contract. Only move that is questionable in Hahn's short tenure as GM is the contract to Keppinger

Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/thread...nchez-Stroman-) Interesting to see Toronto's fans' reactions for context. Most think they'd be foolish to give up Stroman/Sanchez for Beckham/Danks. Some think Stroman/Sanchez is sufficient for Sale. (HA!) All think Gordon Beckham is a bust and/or piece of garbage. I don't blame them about all that besides the Sale idea of course. That's not sufficient

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) The White Sox are not going to sign Ellsbury... I agree. That money would definitely go to McCann. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) Sale Quintana Danks Santiago Johnson Rienzo Axelrod That is how I see it right now, though guys like Snodgress and Beck are closing in. It is also assuming that we don't pull in a RHP project. I could see Bassitt making a statement this upcoming year.

Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) The article said they were interested in Beckham. Then it said the MAY have interest in Santiago or Danks. Now all the crazy trade proposals heavily slanted in the White Sox favor start pouring in. There is no way the Sox are getting Lawrie for Beckham and Danks. I would say yes that's probably 98% true. But then what about Beckham and Santiago then? I could see that happening.

Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) If Hahn has been offered Lawrie and something else for Beckham and Danks, he better agree to the trade before the Molly wears off. And again, why pay John Danks $15 million a year when you have one of the better pitching prospects in the game almost ready to go? I agree with you. Why are they looking for pitching when they have those 2 on the horizon? Maybe he doesn't believe their as good as prospects? Maybe he just wants to win this year and Beckham and Danks/Santiago fit that bill? Given the history of AA (Jays GM), I can see the aggressive side while Hahn restocks the farm with close to ready major league talent. Just like what he has said he's targeting the whole time. Do you see where I think this deal is possible?
-
Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) That's exactly what I was thinking . While I was previously concerned with Lawrie's recent injuries , I'd be more than happy to give up Danks and his salary and Beckham and please give me a 23 yr. old Lawrie. More salary off the books = better chance to sign Ellsbury. This is precisely what Hahn has shown he wants to do. ML young ready talent just like A. Garcia. An offense built around Avi Garcia, Abreu, Semein, Lawrie and Viciedo can be scary good.

Blue Jays reportedly interested in Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:33 PM) The problem with that trade is Toronto wouldn't be on board with it. Let's all get serious here. We all hope and most think Danks will be better next season, but he was getting lit up and is owed a ton of money. Beckham has been having almost identical problems as Lawrie, but he costs more. A trade like this makes no sense for Toronto. I didn't think it made sense to give up 2 top prospects for a 38 year old knuckle ball Cy Young winner. If Beckham and Danks/Santiago is what they think is best available or a better fit for their team, then I can definitely see this happening.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) Yup, that's where I'm at as well with Danks. I don't want to just dump him. That's why I think Hahn would be asking for Sanchez and/or Stroman
