  1. Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 28m28 minutes ago Idle thought: Could @whitesox land switch-hitting prodigy Josh Bell & Tyler Glasnow from Pirates in deal for Quintana & Todd Frazier? Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 26m26 minutes ago @whitesox want Austin Meadows in Jose Quintana deal but Josh Bell also fits the need for young hitters w/big upside.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) The rumor was just out the end of last week of what the Sox were looking for, and it wasn't much. The fact that he is still here means they aren't even getting that much in the way of offers. What rumor?
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) The reality of what is being offered doesn't support that. How do you know what is being offered? You saw what the Nationals offered for Cutch, not saying we can get that deal, but I think we can get a couple players in the next tier of a Robles.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) Fraizer had a higher WAR than Trumbo last season. And higher than Cutch. I find it hard to believe no one would eventually give up something decent for a 40 HR good clubhouse guy. Completely agree. Dude had a low average, but brings big power and reliable defense at a key position. We can get something good for Todd Frazier.
  5. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) I would have to respectfully disagree. I don't see how it can even be remotely realistic for the Sox or anyone to think they can compete with the current roster that, with Sale and Eaton in tow, were unable to win more than 78 games in the past four years, and that was with stop gap measures in place. How can they now be expected to even get close to even 78 wins, never mind compete, without their best pitcher and position player, and with yet another set of additions of the stop gap variety. It doesn't compute. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) I think it some point they take last bids on Q, and trade him for the best offer. They have gone really far down the trade path with him, especially in public, for him to come back now. Even if they go into the season with a lot of those players, I don't see them adding to them in any significant way. I fully expect Abreu and Lawrie to be on the opening day roster. Q I think there is about 10% chance. Frazier is not much higher, though I see a disappointing return to move him. Melky I think will be on the roster, as no one will really want him. Call it a 75% chance at return. I agree with both of you that there is 0 chance the Sox go and try and compete. Way too much smoke regarding a Quintana trade. He's the Sox best trade chip, have to hit on this deal, so there is incentive to be patient in the off season, but like ss2k said, they'll take final offers and deal him before the season without running the risk during the season. Robertson and Frazier I see both being moved, but maybe closer to ST or in ST as injuries or players don't perform. Melky is 100% on the roster come opening day imo, but he'll be a great deadline guy for playoff teams.
  6. Mahomes from Texas Tech declares. Would love him on the Bears.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 2, 2017 -> 10:57 PM) From what I've read he had really bad influences around him, and made some bad decisions (drugs and such, nothing super bad though). Illinois pulled away though, great talent but a risk they can't take after the off court incidents of last year plus they got good players in the 1/2 positions anyways. Agreed. No spot for him really. Frazier, Williams, Lucas all can play the 1. I think Frazier can be the steal of the class.
  8. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 2, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) So what is everyone's preferred REALISTIC trade offer? I'm going to go with Yankees and Frazier, Kaprielian, Andujuar, + lotto ticket A baller... For just Q alone. Braves: Albies, Maitian, Soroka, Toussaint. Braves probably say no, but I think it's possible because these guys are all 3-5 years away with the exception to Albies. Rockies: Rodgers, Pint, Freeland and Nunez Astros: Martes, Tucker, Davis, and Stubbs Dodgers: Bellinger, Verdugo, Lux, and Heredia Yankees: Torres, Rutherford, and Kaprielian Pirates: Glasnow, Newman, Keller, and Diaz Rangers: Mazara, Gallo, Profar, and Speas
  9. From the A's I'd ask for: 2B/SS Franklin Barreto, LHP A.J Puk, RHP Logan Shore, and OF Lazarito
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) I know Illinois has an offer out to Verge, the PG from Thornton. My HS just played them in the Big Dipper title game and wow what a badass. He is a bit showy, but legit. He has one of those non-committal offers I believe. Smith and Epperson are the top targets to fill out the class for the Illini.
  11. Hopefully we hear a new rumor about Quintana tomorrow or the next couple days. I know it's been the holidays, but the baseball hot stove has been extremely slow the last couple weeks and really the whole off season. To my knowledge, only the Sox have made the trades so far this off season. Just a weird off season with the CBA, lack of movement, slow free agency signings, and barely any trades.
  12. Great win for Illinois and they offer Mark Smith while he was in attendance. Rumors on the boards are that he loves Illinois and the incoming class and that he could commit soon....
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 1, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) They have no corners, no QB, the safeties suck. They might not be 3-13 again, but can they be .500? Does 6-10 or 7-9 spell the end of Fox next year? Does it spell the end of Pace? CB/S is both a strength in free agency and the draft this year. Could bank on them getting a top DB. Bears will have 70+ million in cap space after they cut Cutler, Houston, and Royal.
  14. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 1, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) (1) It's not just BA's rankings. (2) These scouting services' rankings are based talking to scouts and coaches in the various leagues. (3) I never said a deal had to be made using prospect rankings. My only point is that a consensus top-10 prospect in all of baseball is not a third piece. Exactly. Glasnow still has fantastic stuff and is by no means a 3rd piece. If it wasn't for Meadows, Glasnow is definitely a headliner.
  15. Bears will get one of Trubisky, Kizer, Garrett, Allen or Adams. That's completely fine with me.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) You tell them if they wait, the price increases. If you allow the Pirates the luxury of waiting until June or July to see how their big league team is faring, you take on the risk that Quintana will either injure himself or his performance will degrade, thus affecting his value on the market. To me, a few posters have nailed it on the head - there just is not a lot of real pressure on the Pirates to fork over what the White Sox want right now, particularly if they are looking up at the Cubs and saying "what are the odds..." But let's say they are competing in late June or early July and they need to add SP. Then they come knocking. You are going to let them have the same deal we asked for in the offseason? Maybe you will...but you need to make them believe that if they want to play hardball today, during the offseason, that they should fully expect that we will play hardball with them if they come back at the deadline. You have to at least make them believe there is that threat. For me, if I was Huntington, and I believed in my team, and I really like Quintana, that might just be enough to put me over the edge and just get the deal done now. Spot on Shack, price definitely goes up in the season for Quintana.
  17. Looks like Smith is going to visit Illinois again tomorrow. Rumors are that he will leave with an offer. Hopefully a commitment will soon follow. Rumors are Hargrove might get an offer as well.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 11:35 AM) It's going to happen this offseason. Like the out of nowhere bidding war on cespedes in late January, when Q is truly close there will be a bidding war. Sox clearly are trying to prod some teams in thinking they have a chance so they can shop legitimate offers. But until it appears Q is truly close to moving, it's too early to lay down your cards. I agree, I don't think the Sox can go into ST with Quintana still on the roster. There is risk involved with any player, and I just think trading Q would be best for the Sox and their rebuild. Still see the Pirates and Yankees as the favorite to land Quintana.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) Each of those guys might be interesting on one year deals Exactly. Those players are good "comeback" candidates that can be flipped at the deadline.
  20. I think a Frazier for Beede straight up would be a good deal for both teams.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Freese and Jaso are old veterans, neither of whom is very good. Bell was very productive for the major league team last year. He was a top prospect, so he has the pedigree. They are trying to win, so why would they give that up? Asking for them to include Bell is as pointless and trade-killing as asking for Mookie Betts was last July (okay, not as silly as asking for Betts, but it's the same problem). Or dare I use another analogy - as pointless as including Trayce in a trade for Frazier, when you had no center fielder to replace him (yes, Bell is better and has the pedigree Trayce lacked; and the Pirates have some sort of backup; but it's just not a move a contender will make). What would/should the Pirates offer that the both teams would say yes to?
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) The Sox should accept any of those, with the Astros trade a tad iffy. The Yankees would say no. The Braves would say no. If they actually in position to contend they might say yes, but they aren't. The Astros should say yes; and I think they would had they not overpaid/traded so many prospects in the last 2 years. They still might. The Pirates would say no (due to inclusion of Bell). The Sox may need to trade Rodon at some point, but definitely not yet; let him blossom first, and plenty of time for that. I agree with all your points except the Pirates. Due to the inclusion of Bell should have no reason saying no in acquiring a talent like Quintana because they still have Freese and Jaso at 1B. Pirates would need to trade 2 of Meadows, Glasnow, and Bell if they aren't trading Keller or Newman in the deal. They keep those 2 and their top prospect in Meadows, while the Sox get 3 MLB ready guys now and a lottery ticket. If no Bell, then Glasnow, Keller, Newman, and Diaz.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) IF the other teams wouldn't be willing to do something like that, then Q probably stays honestly. I agree. In particular, the Pirates. If their fans find out they don't do that deal, they would riot. Also, I think the Braves would accept that deal as all those guys are 2-4 years away.
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) Having watched him a few times now, he's a legit high 4 star and would be best player in Illinois class I think. Have no idea where he's been the last 3 year. Unreal Groce hasn't been in to see him so they haven't offered. Parham was at the game yesterday and Groce and Ford were there today. Saw a tweet that a guy caught Groce said wow after Smith put a dude on a poster for an and 1
