7/27 Sox @ Rockies 2:10 CST
Sox badly need a new replay review team. They’re awful. I’d love to blame Tony and he certainly deserves some blame, but we have to have to worst review team in the bigs. It’s just not that hard and we fuck it ALL THE TIME.

What is status of Luis Robert?
If this is a longer term thing, Sox are fucked regardless and shouldn't be giving up prospects to patch their way through it. We haven't heard much since Hahn spoke about in last Friday, but it sounded he would be back when off the IL or shortly thereafter and this little hard to find nugget from TLR is the only other mention. Based on that and the fact that Luis is traveling with the team, in the dugout and seems to be in good spirts, I am hopeful this is more of just a "he's still experiencing mild symptoms, but improving, and he needs time to get back into the swing of things before being activated". Because without Luis Robert the rest of the way, the Sox don't have much of a chance of making the playoffs, and much less chance of success if they actually do get there.

I expected Sheets in RF for this one, so slightly better lineup than I even anticipated.

For sure. Guy seems totally fine in the dugout tho. You’d think If he had vertigo or something more serious like that he wouldn’t be in the dugout joking around with his teammates.

Trade Rumors Catch-all
There is a 0% chance the Sox are selling. They are 3 GB from the division and the WC. You play the game to go to the playoffs. They aren't waving the flag.

Sox have called Conforto, talking about other premium players
Yeah, its not likely to happen or anything. But Yanks seem married to dumping Gallo and its not like anyone is going to give them an exciting prospect.

Didn't see this mentioned anywhere but TLR said that Robert will not come off the IL on Friday. "He seems like he's improving everyday except he's still getting tested. The IL date is Friday but he hasn't played much, so first things first. When he is cleared to really compete and then what's the smart thing to do. Hope for the best."

Joey Gallo vs RHP in 2022: .181/.307/.404 AJ Pollock vs RHP in 2022: .218/.260/.303 .710 OPS for Gallo vs. .560 OPS for Pollock. One is a great defender and a natural RF. The other is an average at best LF and clearly so uncomfortable in RF they have to throw significantly worse defenders out there. Then you also toss in the Pollock option for 23 meaning he's likely on this roster again eating $ and a corner OF spot. Gallo is definitely a better roster fit. But yeah, both have been awful in 2022.

Fair. I don't really want him either, but he's a far better roster fit than Pollock.

Still worth it. Flip Pollock + $3-5M (or a lottery ticket) for Gallo and sign Conforto to a 2 year $15M deal (pay him a few mill this year). If he comes back in September and contributes, great. If he comes back and is rusty AF, you don't even need to put him on the playoff roster if we're lucky enough to make it. If he doesn't come back, he's your RF in 2023 and has all of ST to work off the rust.

Haha yeah. Sox will send VV out for a rehab assignment on August 12th for his 20 day rehab so he can come back September 1 when rosters expand.
-
What, if any, trade value does Eloy have?
Tray, not sure what you're dealing with but I hope you're doing OK. Best wishes for a quick recovery. ?

Trade Rumors Catch-all
Speaking of VV, is he dead? I know he's on IL and frankly don't really care too much about him, but is he coming back at some point? An extra arm for September? And the Sox aren't DFAing Leury (not directed at you CWS). It just isn't happening. He's been grossly overused but he's still a useful 26th man.

Anderson SS, Moncada 3B, AV RF, Abreu 1B, Eloy DH, Yaz C, Pollock LF, Leury 2B, Engel CF I do believe this is the first time that anyone other than Reese has caught Kopech.

Yeah, I'd much rather give up Vera than Montgomery or Colas.

I still like the give up nothing for Conforto angle.

Trade Deadline Predictions Thread
It actually will probably be more than $11-13M with the escalators. If Sox need to kick in a few million, so be it. Yankees seem pretty desperate to dump Gallo, and if there is a team that wouldn't care about paying Pollock $10-13M to be a part time player next year, its the Yanks. But yeah, its a real impediment for a deal. That said, still not sold AJ won't take his $5M buyout and seek out an opportunity he prefers as opposed to being pigeonholed onto the Sox or another team if he gets moved. Its not beyond the realm of possibility he could secure a 1 year deal around $5-7M if he has a decent couple months, and then he comes out even dollars wise.

If we're worried about a shortened window, maybe we shouldn't trade from the handful of guys that can actually extend it.

Surely he'll be on the bench then, because Tony.

Let him put together a package of our spare worthless parts and then be dumbfounded when the organization actually has to give up something of value to acquire an asset. Rinse, repeat.

Trade Rumors Catch-all
Colas isn't ready and won't be until mid 2023. Reynolds is surely a better player now and will be for the next couple seasons at least, no debate on that. But not sure why Colas has "to make an impact very quickly". But its not just Colas for Reynolds, its Colas +++, and really 6.5 seasons of Colas (3.5 of which at league minimum or close) for 3.333 seasons of Reynolds at likely around $10-12M AAV. I am not saying I am completely opposed to moving Colas for Reynolds, but for me, Colas is going to be valued very highly based on his proximity to the bigs and the fact that he shores up a ton of weaknesses with this club's construction.
