I love fWAR as much as the next guy but how hard is it to understand that the Sox need lineup balance and a left handed hitting 1.5 fWAR guy that balances the lineup and actually hits righties well is more valuable than more of the same on this roster that can’t hit a righty if he was throwing a chicago softball? Sox probably aren’t signing Conforto. But it’s just amazing to me that people can’t understand how badly this team needs a good left handed bat (or 3), even after watching this offense flail for 3 months. Conforto is the definition of a good left handed bat.

He's 29 years old. He had a shoulder surgery, he didn't die. He'll be fine. Whoever signs him to this pillow contract is going to be quite happy. And no, I am not friends with SCott Boras. I am a die hard white sox fan that see's this team sucks donkey dick against RHP and BADLY needs help from the left side, something Conforto can provide EVEN IF HE DOESN'T IMPROVE on his 2021 numbers.

Nimmo would be a better fit than Conforto. Nimmo would be excellent. Difference is 1 isn't available right now, and the other difference is Nimmo will require far more years and dollars. Relevant differences in the scope of this conversation. Me thinks TONS of clubs are going to be after Nimmo this offseason.

Batting average is irrelevant. He has a career 135 wRC+ against RHP. That means he is 35% better against RHP than an average MLBer. Even in his down 2021, he had 119 wRC+, which would be good for the 3rd best hitter on the Sox against RHP. So yeah, he is an elite hitter against RHP. Sorry you don't like stats that matter.

Conforto is a legit LH option. Even in this down season you speak of, he was still 19% above league average against RHP (119 wRC+), which would make him the third most productive hitter against RHP on the 2022 White Sox behind only Abreu (140 wRC+) and AV (128 wRC+). The only reason you can get him on the cheap is the down 21 and the injury. So yeah, I disagree strongly, and the numbers do as well.

Not sure how anyone could define a career wRC+ of 136 against RHP as "dead weight" on this club. Conforto's bat is, quite literally, exactly what this club needs more of. You can't really expect much from him this year, but the move is more about taking a step towards solving the god awful offense against RHP in 2023. For a pillow contract and the chance to contribute in September? Good $ spent IMO. Decent chance he turns into a significant asset.

I mean, yeah maybe. Pollock could still reject his player option. Unlikely if he doesn't play better the next 2.5 months. If Sox were to sign Conforto in the next couple weeks, I think its possible the Sox could "Rios" Pollock and someone desperate for OF would snag him. I am assuming Pollock is on the roster next season, and while paying him $12M or whatever isn't ideal, the net cost is $7M because the $5M buyout is guaranteed regardless, and frankly the OF insurance is probably worth having for $7M. He doesn't even need to be that good to be worth $7M.

I’d happily sign Conforto to a 2 year $15M deal whether he is ready to contribute this season or not.
