I believe this is correct. In any event, Sox won't let that happen. They'll just DFA him before he gets to that point. We're a long way away from having to really worry about this. He's unlikely to throw 160 innings even if the Sox wanted him to.

Yep. Sox unwillingness to DH Eloy is hard to understand. AV is at worst a comparable LF defensively, and isn't as much of a danger to himself, and certainly not to others. I know Eloy wants to play the field, but he's not good to anyone on the IL. He's a literal ticking time bomb out there.

Severino has gotten hit around quite a bit in his 3 AAA appearances so far this year. But as others have said, he's on the 40 man and this is probably a brief stay just to get an extra body up.

Think its more than a little surprising teams like Baltimore, KC, Oakland, Washington, Miami, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Colorado wouldn't take a roll of the dice. All it costs is a roster spot, and if he sucks, you cut him. Good news for the Sox though, even if he's still unlikely to make it to the bigs in 22. I assume he'll be milb FA at the end of this season if not added back to 40 man?

Why not bring a reliever up in the meantime? You can still wait til Thur to make the roster move for the SP. playing short handed for no reason is kinda dumb. They probably just aren’t sold an IL stint is needed. Only thing that makes sense.

Don’t really understand the lack of a roster move here. Maybe they’re hoping he’ll be fine. But it’s 10 days. Just give him his 10 days and let someone else take a turn or two. It’s not the end of the world.

I know it says Sox are balking at the price (as they should). But if the Sox were to trade AV for 2 years of Montas, a guy who also has serious durability issues, I will lose all faith in Sox FO. Vaughn is the real deal. He’s not a guy you trade away.
