GAMETHREAD 4/13/22: Sox vs Mariners (Keuchel vs Ray) 6:10 pm CDT
Per Fegan, Sox expect rain to clear by 630-645, at which point they hope to announce a delayed start time.

Every team does this. Teams and players don’t want to play DHs or give away off days. This isn’t some Sox specific thing.

Seven inning doubleheaders were a travesty.

well, the twins look terrible. Getting perfecto'd after a horrible game last night. Looks like Dodgers are yanking Kershaw tho.

Down from 75-80% chance of rain at game time-9pm to the 40-50% range. Maybe there is hope.

A's interested in Andrew Vaughn/Sox in Montas
And AV has yet to start against a RHP, including the home opener. Like I said, its a limited sample size. But the early indications are what they are. Gavin only play 1-2x a week isn't ideal for him either.

Sure. If he's used sparingly and not the strong side of a platoon. Sample size is limited, but so far it appears TLR intends to play Sheets against all/most RHP. Hence why I'd get him off the roster upon Pollock's return and just let AV play everyday. AV doesn't learn to hit MLB RHP if he's on the bench against all the good ones. I like Gavin, but I also think there is a chance that last season was a mirage. He's got 2 option years and nowhere to play and he's getting in the way of AV's playing time. Having too many players that deserve at bats is a good problem to have for sure.

He doesn't get the hype Vaughn does because he has nowhere near the offensive talent AV has, nor the prospect pedifree. Add in that Sheets is a miserable defender anywhere you put him, and he probably has very limited value. He's likely worth more to the Sox as an insurance policy (and I concur that he is valuable in that role), or he'd be playing somewhere else already. Problem is, we have a dope of a manager that is going to overplay him. Once Pollock is back, I'd send Sheets to AAA until another injury arises. He's just going to get in the way of Vaughn on the MLB roster.

No, there is no scenario where that happens.

I think best case scenario is basically what you just outlined with a (needed) 30-45 day trip to IL in there. Sox can't afford to roll the dice on Keuchel in 2023. That $20M needs to be more effectively allocated.

Its a better offer. But the Sox most certainly are not in a position to be giving away Bummer.

If he develops plate discipline, he becomes Mike Trout.

GAMETHREAD 4/13/22: Sox vs Mariners (Keuchel vs Ray) 6:10 pm CDT
This seems like something we shouldn't worry about until August. Chances are remote Keuchel gets to 160 innings. Chances are much better he's either not in the rotation or not on the roster come august 1. Even if he is on pace to get to 160 come trade deadline season, just acquire a pitcher and bump him from the rotation. Replacing a pitcher who isn't very good isn't grounds for a grievance. With as cheap as the Sox can be, they aren't paying Keuchel $20M next year to be a gas can.

Per Benetti, Lambert to start Thurs over Banks
While I agree the Twins pen will be awful, Robles was not good for the Twins.

HOME OPENER GAMETHREAD 4/12/22: Sox vs Mariners (Velasquez vs Brash) 3:10 pm CDT
Fair. The bar to clear from Cesar was so low that Harrison cleared it in 30 innings.

HOME OPENER GAMETHREAD 4/12/22: Sox vs Mariners (Velasquez vs Brash) 3:10 pm CDT
I love how one poster in particular was saying Cesar is a better player than Harrison. Harrison has already provided more in his 4 games in a Sox uni than that worthless bum Cesar did in 2.5 months. Love his fire and he’s got plenty in the tank.

I guess I could see it based on pinch hitting. I was moreso referring to starts. I hope you're right tho. AV is a much better player than Gaving Sheets.

That seems.....optimistic.....based on what we've seen 4 games in.

This. It sucks we have to punt depth to save ourselves from our manager, but this is the answer. If AV can’t even get into the lineup against a righty with AJP unavailable, what’s that mean when we’re full strength? If Sheets doesn’t start the season well, kinda hope Hahn just sends him to Charlotte until an everyday role opens up.

Rainout tomorrow that likely?
