  1. Wonder what players counter offer was. Hopefully they just took their gains on the CBT and offered something reasonable like $50M on the bonus pool. Otherwise this isn't getting solved today. Still really like the concept of using CBT tax dollars to go towards pre-arb bonus pool on top of $40 or $50M base amount. Seems like a great compromise.
  2. Its been stated that Players who finish top 2 in ROY get full years of service, and teams who have players who finish in top of ROY races that started the year on the MLB roster get bonus draft picks. I'd say those two things help curb service time manipulation.
  3. I mean over the last 10 days the owners have more than met the players in the middle on the core economic issues.
  4. Well neither side was going to blink until the calendar forced some decisions, so while I get the PA was trying to negotiate, they were also asking for an awful lot, so not surprised the owners didn't just hand it over. Its all kind of classic negotiating. No one is going to make their best offer until they have to.
  5. Sounds like once deal is formally agreed to transaction freeze is over. But who knows how long it takes to get from agreed in principal to formally agreed. I’d guess like 24 hours.
  6. Here is an idea I talked to my dad about that I really like. Set the pre-arb pool at $40M. But 50% of all CBT taxes from teams that exceed go into the pool. I'd say 100%, but not exactly sure where those dolalrs go currently, so I am sure someone isn't likely to want to give it all up. Seems like a great compromise for both sides.
  7. Start runner on 2nd in the 12th inning. Give it 2 innings to finish organically. 7 inning double headers are complete trash tho.
  8. Unless I missed something overnight, this seems like an optimistic take. They're still $30M apart on the pre-arb pool, and the PA has shown no real willingness to this point to drop down to the $40-50M range that is going to be required to get this deal done. Putting aside some of tertiary issues, from an economic standpoint, MLBs offer last night seems like an enormous win for the players. Going to be very disappointed if they don't figure it out.
  9. Players gonna counter with $70M arb pool and kill this deal.
  10. Sucks for division winner 3, but guess it creates some competition among division winners going down the stretch.
  11. Yah. Pay enough for mlb.tv; crazy to take away access.
  12. Lol, clearly. I actually kind of liked Garfien's 14 team proposal. ITs better than any 12 team scenarios I've heard. But I don't think its what MLB has in mind. But seriously, assuming $700K min salary is still on the table, $50M bonus bonus pool, $228M CBT increasing $2M a year.....if players don't take that, I think its fair to say they're being greedy.
  13. FFS players, that's a fair deal. Take it. Just make the 14 team play-off the structure Garfein laid out yesterday, and I am fine wiht it.
  14. How much does Apple TV+ cost? Honestly not even aware of what it is. I assume this is something we'll need to subscribe to get access to the handful of Sox games that are on this each year?
  15. Damn poor, guy. Wish the Slim Reaper well.
  16. I actually think I prefer the 14 team structure floated around yesterday as opposed to any 12 team scenario where the 3rd division winner is playing a 3 game series.
  17. I mean, can't say I agree that spending $ doesn't correlate to winning. If Dodgers and Yankees are running $300M+ payroll and the average of the rest of the league is $125M, I don't see how teams can compete. Could they lose in a 3, 5, or 7 game playoff series? Of course. But its nowhere near a level playing field. I'd love to see a floor, but its pretty obvious that isn't happening.
  18. Yes, they're still $50M apart on the bonus pool. I do believe that is the 2nd biggest factor. I also think the players ask is a bit much. $40-50M growing by 2% a year seems like a reasonable compromise. Let's remember this is a brand new concept, and what the players are demanding is going from 0 to 80 in a millisecond. Nothing about that change is incremental.
  19. What comments like this tweet fail to recognize is that there needs to be something in place to limit the big boys spending. Without some form of CBT, the Yanks, Dodgers, Red Sox etc are just forming their own league. I don’t know what the leagues caveats are tied to pushing the CBT thresholds above $220m, but ffs, just seems like this shouldn’t be what delays the season. Such a small % of the teams are even impacted and I don’t blame the little fish For wanting something to limit upper end spending.
  20. Enter the other character who hates Andrew Vaughn.
  21. Its fair to point out, but its also fair to recognize a much bigger red flag is Eloy's inability to stay healthy while playing a horrible defensive LF. He's a DH. Its time he come to grips with it. We have an in-house option who is already at least a comparable defensive LF who can certainly improve with more rep and he isn't an injury risk to everyone within 50 foot radius of him. FWIW - I expect the Sox to play Eloy in LF most of the time in 22. I just think its a really, really, really (did I say really?) bad decision.
  22. We've been over this many times. Andrew Vaughn's splits as a rookie who had never played above A ball are borderline meaningless to me, and the vast majority of anyone who paid attention to the Sox last year feel the same. Except you. You want to send him to AAA and groom him to become a weakside platoon DH.
  23. That too, really. But he's especially anti-Andrew Vaughn. For some reason. Seems personal, haven't quite figured it out.
  24. Don't bother discussing Andrew Vaughn with two gun pete.
