  1. I don't believe that is how it works. I think if he doesn't reach the vesting option, the Sox owe him $1M (unless he is on another MLB roster at the end of the season, then they owe him). I do not believe the buy-out has the power to override the option if it vests. That being said, there is no way the Sox are letting that option vest.
  2. Cease pitched 2/3 of an inning yesterday, and was removed. He was not an option for today.
  3. Yah. I get it. There is value to getting Cease some MLB action this year. I agree. I just am not willing to give up close to 20% of his control for a handful of starts. If they want to get him up here in a couple weeks, sure go for it. Once the ASG hits and if he still in AAA, just leave him there until late May 2020. Yes, I know control is different for pitchers than hitters, and you want to get as many innings out of each guy as you can while they're healthy, but still. The Kopech injury was an absolute kick to the nuts, and pretty much eliminated any chance of the Sox being long shot contenders in 2019, and this organization cannot afford to repeat that mistake. Get Cease up here in June, or leave him in AAA for the season. I understand others have different opinions on this and that is fine, but I feel pretty strongly about this one.
  4. They are not going to let his option vest. They will just release him in August if they need to.
  5. Palka is 5/35 in June. His season average is down to .239 in AAA. I don't think now is the best time to call him up.
  6. I thought we heard he'd be back in game action by June 1. Any updates?
  7. DJ Peterson released from Charlotte.
  8. I will repeat. Castillo serves a purpose on this team. You calling up Collins to sit on the bench 5 days a week? You calling up Collins to make McCann the back up. The only way you can get Collins DH at bats where he probably should be most of the time is keeping Castillo around.
  9. Just keep running him out there every 5th day.
  10. Yah, I don't think he did himself any favors in getting up here "soon" though. That being said, I am about 3 weeks away from saying just leave Cease in AAA until next May. If you're going to use a year, may as well get your moneys worth an get him up here ASAP. I am fine with him in AAA, and I do think he has more refining to do (3 BB in 2/3 of an inning yesterday would state as much) but waiting to call him up for until mid August for a handful of meaningless starts is so dumb.
  11. I don’t believe you can put a guy on the major league IL if they’re in the minors. Otherwise I see no reason those guys aren’t already on 60 day. Delmonico can probably be safely DFAd. No one is going to claim when when he’s hurt. They should be able to retain him. Plenty of other guys they could cut too.
  12. never mind...my eyes deceived me
  13. Yah, lost me on the home away splits. Leury is a totally fine leadoff guy considering the roster. I’d bat Timmy 6th before 7th, but I definitely would bat him leadoff.
  14. Per his Twitter, he is headed to Chicago.
  15. Then why exactly does it aggravate you?
  16. Ricky put together probably the first lineup all season that I would have don’t myself. Amazing.
  17. Guys...it’s a waiver claim. There is literally no cost to do so if you have a 40 man spot. There is no harm in claiming guys whatsoever. If you don’t like the guy after you’ve had him for a bit, DFA him when you need the spot. He may get claimed, or he may not in which case you get to keep him in the organization and he doesn’t take up a 40 man spot. There is zero risk. This really is not that complicated of a concept to grasp.
  18. Door is open for a start tomorrow or Tue with Covey to IL.
  19. I suppose it could be Cease too
  20. Imagine Vieria goes back down in a couple days for Despaigne or Detwiler to make the start in Coveys spot.
  21. Can always DFA him again if they don't like him. No reason to not that flyers on guys when you have open 40 man spots.
  22. I didn't know the Padres were big boys. Fine, use $250M if you prefer. That is more than enough to land any single FA they want this offseason. My point remains.
  23. Is it correct that the Sox cannot place Delmonico or Adolfo on the 60 day IL, even though they're both out for the season? My understanding is that the player must be on the active MLB roster (and MLB IL) in order to put on the 60 day IL.
  24. I don't really think anyone is "outside of our price range". The Sox offered Manny Machado a contract that could have paid him well over $300M a few months ago, and the Sox have under $20M committed to next season's payroll. They can sign any FA they want if they decide to do so.
