  1. QUOTE (bmags @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) I actually read about this but I can't remember for the life of me. Want to say some percentage goes to players union other to operating budget. If you happen to run into it again, please post. Super curious.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) Sale deal has nothing to do with this deal. Sox weren't sent money. The tax and bonus owed to Moncada was on Red Sox. White Sox wouldn't have to pay remainder of bonus anyway. That's not really agreed to. That's Red Sox obligation. Exactly. Completely different situations.
  3. Out of curiousity...what does MLB do with the taxes they'll collect on a signing like this? Is this what is distributed back to the smaller market teams via revenue sharing?
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Yes, really. No. Any money the Red Sox sent to the White Sox was to cover the remaining ~1/3 of Moncadas bonus that was still due (to Moncada). The remainder of bonus was already spent and the taxes are the Red Sox responsibility. This money to sign Robert didn't come from the Red Sox, which is what you appear to be insinuating.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) Yea... the Red Sox paid all of the luxury tax and all of Moncadas 31.5m contract and took on all of Sale's money. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/red-...chris-sale.html Right. Most of the bonus money was already paid. The penalties / taxes are the Red Sox responsibility. I don't think they literally send the Sox that money. I think it remains their responsibility. They probably did send the Sox the money that was still owed to Moncada out of his bonus, however much that was.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) Effectively... Chris Sale = Yoan Moncada, Luis Robert, Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basebe, Victor Diaz Not really
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) They sent 31.5 million to us in the Sale deal. Not exactly
  8. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) Can someone refresh me on the Moncada money from the Red Sox? The Red Sox paid the $31.5M signing bonus and all penalties.
  9. Well this is a positive development.
  10. Can he just announce his damn decision already?
  11. So excited for Pelfrey and Covey to be out of this rotation.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Except this already demands our 2017 class be garbage. We have a self imposed penalty box already. So what happens on the Sox had some big names lined up for J2, but they sign Robert? Basically they have to renege on those deals and that can't help for future dealings.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) On the one hand the Sox are peddling Quintana, for essentially a prospect the quality of Robert (plus some add-ons). And yet, in an open market, Q would go for almost triple Robert's value. And then there is the fact that the Sox invested $25 mill in Shields, which happens to be the ballpark amount for Robert. Given that, they should be willing to hit $25 mill or thereabouts. You do realize that whatever they pay Robert doubles right? So for the expenditure to be around $25M, they'd pay Robert $12.5M, which is going be at Lessard $10M shy of what he ultimately gets.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) Quintana and Swarzak to the Brewers for Ray, Diaz, Phillips and Gatewood. Who says no? The Sox. That deal would suck.
  15. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Right on cue https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/inside-bas...ework-starters/ Certainly wouldn't want to hold Hahn accountable for anything....considering the sterling results the last 4+ years, the benefit of the doubt has been earned. But don't worry, I will credit him if the Sox sign Robert. That article does not say Hahn is pulling away from Robert.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/red-sox/re...erious-trouble/ Price really struggled in his first rehab start. Red Sox could really use Frazier, Quintana or both, but at what cost? Devers, obviously... Could potentially buy low on Odor and Profar, but timeframe is off and Mazara/Gallo are higher in value... Gallo does not have more value than Odor.
  17. QUOTE (FT35 @ May 17, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) I think so. He's young enough. I'm not an expert...just the dreaded superfan... But if he doesn't find success with us, I can see him catching on with a small-ball team like Oakland or KC who has a high-octane defense/low budget offensive approach to roster composition. He's not really THAT young. He'll be 28 in July. I think he should have options though, because I don't think he was added to the 40 man until 2014 or 2015, so he should have at least 1 left.
  18. Nice post. Not that I expect the Sox to use it, but does Tyler have any options left?
  19. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) Here's Dave Cameron's response to your proposal: Hmm. Interesting comment. Seems to downplay Rodgers and Dahl a bit, but I guess that is promising.
  20. QUOTE (striker @ May 17, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) Quintana + Jones for Dahl, Rodgers, Hoffman, Almonte, Pedro Gonzalez. This would get me very excited. Which means it probably isn't possible. To get Dahl, Rodgers and Hoffman alone would be pretty fantastic. But to add more interesting pieces? Probably a pipe dream.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ May 17, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) While I agree it's premature to pencil Yolmer in as an everyday 2B, or to say his presence has much effect on Moncada, I would quickly and happily move Moncada to CF to make room for Yolmer if need be. Moncada will be up for his bat — IMO there's not reason to shoehorn him to 2B where he'll never be elite defensively when he could play CF, where he has a chance to be. I would hate to lose Yolmer's glove (or anyone's for that matter) just because we thought Moncada has to play 2B in the majors, when his bat will play anywhere and his speed + arm would transfer well (maybe even better) to the OF. This too. I think Moncada will be given every chance to stick at 2B, but I wouldn't be totally floored if he ended up in CF by 2019. I don't think Yolmer or Saladino (and I like them both) will be the ones to push Moncada off 2B though. I think it will be Moncada being less than ML average at 2B, a need in CF, and perhaps someone else playing 2B by that time.
  22. When Moncada comes up, I think 3B will be split mainly between Saladino and Yolmer. They'll both get looks at 2B and SS when Tim and Moncada need breathers. Having too many useful guys isn't a problem. I doubt either will be traded. Both wouldn't have much value, and they're cheap. Makes more sense to keep them unless someone wants to give up something interesting.
