Kopech "getting closer"
Invaluable? I don't think Kopech making 6 MLB starts and Eloy playing 40 games in the bigs in 2018 is going to make any difference whatsoever in what they become as players. They'll have all of 2019 in to develop in the big leagues before the Sox get serious about competing in 2020 and beyond. if choice is owning their rights for another season when the Sox project to be good as opposed to letting their get their feet wet in a lost season in 2018 - to me, the answer is obvious.

Do you know enough about anything White Sox related to have an opinion?

How eventful will be this years deadline?
If we're still sub .500 in 2020, we're not in a terribly good place. I think the Sox plan to hold onto Rodon. If it becomes obvious a year from now that this team is still a couple years away, and Rodon has been good, at that point you can assess dealing him. Right now, let's just get a healthy and productive rest of the season under his belt.

Why do the Sox not have a SS A-ball club?

Why do the Sox not have a SS A-ball club?
Just curious - why do the Sox not field a short-season A ball club? It looks like about half the teams have a SS A ball affiliate, and most that don't have an extra rookie ball team (Sox only have 3).

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
They'll let him learn in the bigs in 2019.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
I am fairly certain that we won't see Eloy in September if we haven't seen him before then. It's becoming increasingly obvious (to me) that we won't see Eloy until May 2019. Which I love. If we do see him at all 2018, may as well get him up here ASAP.

Rodon doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that isn't going to bet on himself. I see almost no scenario that he agrees to an extension 3.5 years away from free agency unless the Sox really pay up.

Rodon reinstated, Beck DFA
They had already removed Beck from the roster once. Clearly he isn't in their future plans (obviously Volstad isn't either).

I think you're going to be disappointed on Eloy.

This. The Sox control Nate through 2021 for AAV of $2.75M. They aren't trading him away for nothing.

How eventful will be this years deadline?
Expect to get dealt: Soria and Avilan Perhaps, but would need to be good offer: Abreu, Yolmer and Jones Who would want em?: Shields, Santiago, Cedeno I doubt anyone else gets moved. I'd trade Bruce Rondon for sure, but I don't think he necessarily fits into any of those categories. He is controllable through 2020, so I wouldn't just give him away, but also can't expect THAT much in return. He's probably worth more to hold onto than move at this point.

Palka vs Davidson @DH
This isn't a bash on Yolmer - he is a great infielder. But it's quite likely that his future on this team is a utility player. It would be beneficial if he could play the OF when that time comes. I don't think the Sox plan on him being the longterm 3B and 2B and SS are covered. I am not suggesting Yolmer play OF everyday. But plugging him in there now and then gets his feet wet in meaningless games, and it also allows the Sox to get Davidson and Palka in the lineup everyday.

This is a bad take.

Palka vs Davidson @DH
I wish Ricky was more flexible with positions. Try guys in different spots. Why not? Yolmer in the OF is the obvious one. As someone else suggested above, throw Davidson out there. He can't be worse than Palka. I'd love to see some more positional flexibility.

Shields attracting trade interest
Meh. Don't really get the kid gloves approach with fringey SP prospect that likely ends up in the pen and will be 26 soon. I'm fine with them waiting until a rotation spot opens whether that is due to injury or Shields getting moved/released/demoted to pen, but he should be next in line.

Shields attracting trade interest
Stephens time should be like....now. He isn't that young. Rotation spots are going to be harder to come by next season when we already have Rodon, Kopech, Lopez and Gio locked into the rotation with Dunning, Fulmer and Covey right there and some fringe guys and guys a bit further away also in line. I think its best to get Stephens some starts now to see what we have. If it were up to me, I'd roll with a Rodon, Lopez, Giolito, Covey and Stephens rotation the rest of this season once we can dump Shields.
