ESPN ranks White Sox rotation worst in baseball
ChiSox59 replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am moreso surprised the White Sox even made the list, as ESPN generally forgets they even exist. -
Poor Reynaldo has to face Kluber again.

Ricky seems like a great guy and good player's manager. But I hate his in game decision making, and I hope the Sox aim a tad higher when they are trying to win major league baseball games. I wouldn't hate moving in a new direction after this season.
-
The Sox track record with FA LH middle of the order bats is um......poor.

I'd like to get my hands on some mixture of Yordan Alvarez, Cionel Perez, Freudis Nova, DJ Davis and AJ Reed. I assume Whitley and Tucker aren't available, even in a 1 for 1 swap. With the 40 man getting more crowded next season, some younger guys that won't need to be added to the 40 man right away make sense. Something like Alvarez, Perez and Nova for Abreu + their pick of Soria, Avilan or Cedeno makes some sense. Probably too steep for the Astros, though.

So many people quote him, it is worthless.

I've personally never been a fan of Farmer. Way too monotone for my liking.

Giolito still has 1.5 seasons of going out there every 5th day before he'll be written off or moved to the pen.

Yah, I don't really get it.

2018 White Sox draft picks and signings thread
ChiSox59 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
I get it, was just hoping they could convince one of them to sign. The Sox should have some savings from the 9th and 10th picks, but obviously not enough to make too much of dent and I am sure most of will be / was used for Maldonado, Carranza, Bilous, Martin and Ortiz. -
2018 White Sox draft picks and signings thread

That's too bad. I was hoping we could snag a couple of those late HS picks. -
Lol. His walk rate is significantly better and .1 in WHIP is fairly significant. His ERA is also 2.5 runs lower. Dude, I don't know what else to tell you. We clearly disagree. I have no doubt that Kopech would be in the majors if the Sox were trying to win games at the ML level. I have no doubt that he would be one of the best if the not the best pitcher in the our rotation if he were up right now. But the Sox aren't trying to compete, and they're actually trying for the first time in my 28 years on this earth to not rush prospects and try to rebuild the right way. A big part of that is not being dumb about service time for key players. Kopech is a key player. Covey, despite somehow now looking like a competent MLB pitcher, is not (though him being a solid mid rotation starter out of nowhere would be huge).

No doubt. Just gets old.

It is still a very team friendly deal. Sox actually owe him less to retain him next season (ML minimum) than they would if they bought out his contract. As for the injury, that sucks. I am sort of done with Minaya. I would have rather seen Gomez, Danish or Vieira.
-
The next service time benchmark is late next April. I've already laid out the reasons why I'd keep him down. On a whole, he has been less than dominate at AAA, is still young, and needs to throw more strikes. Plenty of reasons why he shouldn't be in the bigs.
-
He was quite good in AAA earlier this season before getting the call as well.

We're on the exact same page.
-
I know. He's been pretty good in AAA. But his stats are pretty meh, and its a perfect excuse to keep him in AAA. If he were making mincemeat of the league, it'd be a little harder to spin the story. I could be wrong, and we'll see Kopech and Eloy soon. But I think its pretty obvious what the Sox plan is, and I for one absolutely love it.
-
Do us all a favor and take a couple weeks off.
-
They already DFA'd Beck for Rodon.
-
This. I can't think of any good organizational reasons to call them up now other than the classic "get their feet wet" BS. This team sucks. Having them in 2025 is exponentially more valuable than having them in 2018.
-
What is best for him is improving on his 4.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 5.16 BB/9 innings playing against AAA players. Until he does that, he's given the Sox every excuse they need to keep him in AAA.
-
I don't.

You've never been to a game at the Cell? Yet you spend at least an hour a day on here spamming this board? Some things I will never understand.
-
Invaluable? I don't think Kopech making 6 MLB starts and Eloy playing 40 games in the bigs in 2018 is going to make any difference whatsoever in what they become as players. They'll have all of 2019 in to develop in the big leagues before the Sox get serious about competing in 2020 and beyond. if choice is owning their rights for another season when the Sox project to be good as opposed to letting their get their feet wet in a lost season in 2018 - to me, the answer is obvious.
