  1. Obviously not a perfect source, but Tim Dierkes who does the FA rankings on MLBTR pegged Dozier for a 4-year $72M deal before this season. The Sox should be doing cartwheels if they could get him at 2 years/$26M to plug a gap that they have no one imminently available to fill.
  2. Seems a bit harsh. A .314/.453/.619 line is fairly impressive is any league, and they probably wouldn't have wasted over 200 at bats on him this season if they saw nothing. Didn't realize he was already 24 until I looked today, so it makes more sense considering his defensive shortcomings.
  3. Lol, Holland and Dozier are not even remotely close to equivalents. I don't see Dozier getting less than 11-12M AAV.
  4. This is a little surprising, no? .314/.453/.619 line in rookie ball last year. .261/.347/.384 is A ball this year. I know his defense sucks, but seems pretty early to release him. I suppose at 24, he was pretty old for the level.
  5. This is rude.
  6. Can we just ban this guy? He's ruining this board.
  7. Great news.
  8. Pretty much what Balta said. The Sox have no internal options at 3B other than Yolmer. I love Yolmer, but he isn't an everyday 3B. He's a utility guy. The crop of FA 3B isn't exactly great. Like I said earlier, I hope the Sox shoot for the moon with Machado, and when he inevitably gets out of their price range, landing on a guy like Dozier with a 2 year ~$26M deal wouldn't be all bad. He could theoretically play 2nd base and move Moncada to 3B - Yoan is probably going to have to move for Madrigal anyway. But I do think Dozier could play 3B, and I think the Sox would prefer to tinker at 3B before moving Moncada.
  9. I think its possible Dozier could be had on a 2 year deal. 3 probably more likely. The Sox wouldn't be signing him for 2021-2023, they'd be signing him to try and start actually winning baseball games in 19 and 20. Obviously Machado would be preferred, but its such a long shot its almost not worth even thinking about. In some way or another, the Sox should be looking to upgrade at 3B next season. They don't have any internal options and the only FA options worth noting other than Machado are Donaldson, Moustakas, Eduardo Nunez, and Eduardo Escobar who all have their flaws.
  10. Believe he is signed through next season (originally a 3 year deal). Usually teams don't let managers go into a season a lame duck.
  11. Someone has to fill the 5th starter role. Maybe they sign a veteran they can flip, with the hope that Dunning is the rotation by midseason. But I think Stephens will be given an opportunity at some point (probably a few starts in September, and the 5th starter role is to start next year).
  12. I will be disappointed if Renteria's contract is renewed. Girardi is out there - no idea if he would be interested, but the Sox should be trying to get him.
  13. He certainly has had his fair share of injuries. But that is how you find an undervalued asset. It certainly is going to affect his FA market, as will his QO assuming he gets one. He is really good when he is healthy. If he didn't have an injury history, he'd be getting a monster FA deal.
  14. Pretty sure Martin is signed through next season. I thought he was a FA as well, but was corrected, and he is indeed controlled for next season.
  15. Depends on how much the QO hampers his market and lowers the asking price.
  16. Lol, excuse me...65% of a season above A ball.
  17. Yep. I hope they dabble in the FA. Shoot for the moon with Machado, but ultimately fall a little short in someone like Dozier for 3B. I think AJ Pollock makes a ton of sense for this team. Pollock - CF Moncada - 2B Abreu - 1B Eloy - LF Garcia - RF Dozier - 3B Castillo - C Palka / Davidson - DH Anderson - SS BN: Narvaez, Leury, Yolmer, Tilson Rotation: Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, Giolito, and Stephens Bullpen: Jones, Burdi, Hamilton, Fry, Vieira, Avilan, Covey Probably not a contending team, but they could be decent without hampering the future. No big time prospects are blocked at 3B and CF for 2-3 year type deals.
  18. If the Sox wait until ~ April 20, 2019 to call up Eloy and Kopech, they will own them through the 2025 season. If they bring them up before that, they will own them through the 2024 season. The Super 2 cutoff (which would give the Sox 3 arb years instead of 4) is usually in the middle of the June. I see almost no scenario where they're kept from the big leagues that long unless they're hurt.
  19. The same people who howled for a rebuild are the same people on twitter and on here that show zero semblance of patience for Eloy and Kopech, the cornerstones of the rebuild along with Moncada.
  20. He doesn't seem to be the type of guy that is going to get too shaken up by it. He literally laughed it off.
  21. Or he knows he's played less than half a season of games above A ball.

Palka. Matty has had his chances and is what he is. I do, however, think both will be on the roster to start the season. And if only one is, it will be Matt, because Palka still has options and Davidson does not.
  23. I think the next 55 games will be rough. So don't know if this is rock bottom. But I expect the Sox to be MUCH improved in 2019. Probably not contention improved, but at least flirt with .500 for most of the year.
