Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Solid point. Also an interesting idea. Piggybacking on the salary dump idea- Prado and Chen are the 2 dumpable contracts they have (Prado 2/28M, Chen 3/52M). The Sox have the ability to easily absorb one of them. Yelich is a 4.5 WAR CFer under contract at 5/58M. The guy has crazy surplus value. The Sox take on Prado or Chen and he is still worth an elite prospect and a top 100 prospect. Marlins trade: Yelich Chen Whitesox trade: Leury Garcia Lopez/Giolito one 20-30 ranked sox prospects one 30-40 ranked sox prospect ---- Marlins trade: Yelich Prado Whitesox trade: Leury Garcia Lopez/Giolito Adolfo/Adams two 20-30 ranked sox prospects one 30-40 ranked sox prospect Only thing i question is if I'm overvaluing lopez/giolito in these trades. They have essentially the same amount of control as Yelich, and if they are good, won't be too much cheaper when you consider arbitration years. The marlins need to field some talent, and Leury can help with their loss of outfield and infield players. They get high end prospects as well as some depth. Chen's contract is really bad. He has had Tommy Johns and is having more elbow issues. When you say 20-30 and 30-40, are you referring to in the Sox system, or in the MLB?

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) I see Yelich costing considerably more than the Sox (or the fans) would be willing to part with. If he were on any team other than the Marlins, I would agree. But I don't expect Miami to get top dollar for Yelich. But the price is still probably more than I'd be willing to pay. The Sox need to build the remainder of the next contender out of FA, and trading excess prospects in a year or two. Its still too early to make trades like this IMO.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) I'm not suggesting we sign him, but I'm not sure how you can say that ship has sailed when Machado is a year away from free agency? Any team that wants to offer the most money will get him pretty much. I do not know if that should be us. Right. That ship most definitely has not sailed. That's not to say the Sox will offer the most doe, but I suspect that team that does will get him.

Dustin Fowler suing White Sox for injury
I feel bad for the kid. And the box really had no good reason to be there and unprotected. But I have a hard time seeing him win this one.

Starting Rotation
I agree with the OP's opinion. I think we should see what we have with some of our fringey arms. I don't have a problem signing a scrapheap SP or two who some upside, but outside of Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, Shields and Fulmer, and Kopech whenever he is ready, I think the next few opportunities should go to Stephens, Guerrero, Adams, and Cooper. I'd much rather see those guys get some starts then another Pelfrey type.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) No go on Anderson. Avi I have no issues at all including. Avi, Stephens and Puckett.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) If it would be pointless, then why not grant the window to increase their return? Why agree to a trade you know is never going to happen when MM and proposed trade partner don’t come to a deal after 72 hours. What does that accomplish?

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) Why? It makes perfect sense. He will be in his prime when the white sox have their window to compete. As long as thy are convinced they can sign him to a long term deal, it's perfect. they will have a very low payroll with the young players for the next 5 years. How in the world can you be convinced you can sign him long term? The dude is going to free agency. There is a zero percent chance that anyone that acquires Machado will get him to sign an extension before he reaches free agency. He'd be a complete idiot to sign an extension right now.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) I think the White Sox are just playing Pricing Cop to make sure nobody gets him cheap. They're probably legitimately surprised that they're considered a high bidder. Perhaps...but it really makes you wonder what the Sox offer could be. Maybe something like Cease or Fulmer, Adams and Stephens. Gives BAL a few arms that are MLB ready or not terribly far away from the majors without really hurting the Sox all the much. A deal like that I could get behind, and I could see it being something the Sox offered just to see where they stood. With what the Fish received for Stanton/Ozuna/Gordon, they didn't exactly set up a seller's market, so maybe an offer like that actually does get the Sox to the table for 1 year of MM.

The Avi Thread
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 13s The #SFGiants and #Bluejays have talked to the #Whitesox about acquiring outfielder Avisail Garcia, but nothing close If the Sox were actually trying to acquire MM, trading assets Avi and Abreu makes no sense. Not signing any decent relievers makes no sense. You trade for one of the stars of the game on a 1 year deal, you may as well try make the team around him a contender.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) ? I certainly don't enjoy the prospect of shipping out some of our best for such a retarded risk. Thumbs waaaaaay down. Don't see it happening. If this was KW still running the show, I bet it'd be done and announced two or three days ago. Really no reason to use that word, bruh.

Sox draft two, trade one, lose none in Rule 5
Burdi would have been nice but it was a nice surprise not losing any of our guys.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) I agree with the max that you would give up but that doesn't match the news (possibly fake) that we had the best offer. Many other teams would have definitely been willing to beat that for even 1 year of Machado. Tough to know what 'best offer' entails though. Its conceivable that an offer like Avi + Fulmer + Yolmer could be the most attractive to BAL over a package of lower level prospects. They've made comments that they want to compete in 2018 whether they have MM or not, so an offer like that could be intriguing to them.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) It could have been an offer like Timmy Anderson, Giolito and Fulmer, which would be the best offer likely out there. It is a calculated risk like Rick said, we have the depth to rebound pitching wise and lose the risk on Timmy. We would also be "cashing" in on an early contract Rick signed like always. I wouldn't like that trade. Or even two of those guys for a rental and showcase of the greatness that is WhiteSoxdom, but I could see something like it happening. That's more than a calculated risk. Max I'd do is something like pick 2 of Rutherford/Fulmer/Cease/Dunning, and a less regarded guy like Jordan Stephens, Clarkin, or Puckett is the final piece. Anything more than that it just doesn't add up.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:35 AM) This is where I'm at with all this. The way folks are talking on here makes it seem like the Sox would have to give up as much or more for one season of Machado than we received for 3 seasons of Sale, 4 seasons of Quintana, or 5 seasons of Eaton. Yep. Just don’t see how our top tier guys can be involved. It doesn’t make any sense.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
The Orioles are dumb. I know they want pitching, but maybe they’d take something like Avi, Yolmer and Fulmer. Duquette has said this week they want to complete with or without Machado. Maybe theyd prefer guys they could plug right in. I’d be pretty upset if any of Moncada, Kopech, Eloy, Giolito, Lopez, Robert, Collins or Hansen are moved. I suppose I could live with losing a couple second tier guys - like pick 2 od Fulmer, Dunning and Rutherford. Ugh. I don’t know.

Rule 5 draft preview
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) I think Leury Garcia will get a nice bulk of time in CF (to start the year anyway). I don't really want a position player unless they deal Garcia in the next like 18 hours. I like Leury. Can't see them getting much for him, so I hope they just stick him in CF and let him play. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

The Avi Thread
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) Ramos + Anderson + Williams? Sox would have to really like Ramos to make that deal though I'd probably want a better 2nd piece. I don't know a ton about the Giants system but Kelvin Beltre looks like an interesting guy as a backend of deal filler.

White Sox Rule 5 Draft Preview (and Rule 5 discussion thread)
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) Yeah, he is a perfect guy to pick up. The only reasons we shouldn't take Burdi are if someone else take him before us or his brother gives us some inside info about him not returning to form. I dont think his own brother is going to tell the Sox to shy away.

The Avi Thread
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) Not much in the SF farm that the Sox would want though. Arroyo? Ramos? Beyond them their system is scary thin on talent. Jordan Gonzalez? I like Ramos alot.

Giants would still seem to be a fit. A's if Piscotty deal falls through.
