I don't in anyway expect the Sox to do it, but it'd be a fun to see them drop some $$ on short term deals and try to be decent. Carlos Gonzalez - 1 Year - $10M Michael Brantley - 2 Years - $17M Andrew Cashner or Jaimie Garcia - 2 Year - $18M Hector Rondon - 2 Year - $11M Anthony Swarzak - 2 years - $10M Howie Kendrick - 1 year - $7M Lineup: Michael Brantley CF Yolmer Sanchez 3B Yoan Moncada 2B Jose Abreu 1B Carlos Gonzalez DH Avi Garcia RF Leury Garcia LF Welington Castillo C Tim Anderson SS BN: Kendrick, Delmonico, Narvaez, Engel Rotation: Giolito, Lopez, Cashner/Garcia, Fulmer, Shields (Rodon over Shields when healthy, Fulmer to pen when Kopech is ready) BP: Rondon, Swarzak, Jones, Farquhar, Minaya, Infante, Vieria, Bummer That could be a pretty decent team, doesn't hamstring them at all for the future, and if things don't go well, can still trade Avi and Abreu, in addition to the new arrivals. Again, this isn't really a prediction as I doubt the Sox go this directio, but I wouldn't be against seeing something like this.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) If we traded for Kelly, why not eventually flip one of Collins/Zavala for pitching? Or, even include one in the Kelly deal to maximize the return. I personally think the trade would be redundant, as Collins is a fine prospect, but pulling the trigger would cause a prospect logjam. agreed. Especially with the Castillo signing, not sure catcher is our top priority. I am not shying away from Kelly, but just not sure that should be the Sox focus.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Robert is a fringe guy? Obviously not a fringe guy..momentarily brain lapse on my part, but still...Rutherford and Robert are a long way away (until they prove they aren't). I wouldn't shy away from acquiring talented OF prospects just yet. I would, however, put LHP and 3B as a higher priority.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) I really don’t see a need to add O’Neil. The system is absolutely loaded with OFs, acquiring him would be another example of diminishing returns. Kelly is definitely interesting though. He’d be pretty much a must in any Abreu deal. Loaded with OF may be a bit of an exaggeration. We've got Eloy and Rutherford (who is a long way away), and a handful of fringe guys.

They should draft that Guerrero guy with the 4th pick.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Sox got rid of dead weight---good for them! But those idiots kept Sanchez! The outrage! The stupidity!

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) We could have fit some of the others on since some will be non-tendered today. yes...still think it was a curious move not protecting Peter and Guerrero, and Polo to a lesser degree. Pretty sure Alburquerque will be non tendered today, and Hanson and May would have been easy cuts.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) I don't think it means that at all. Teams need two catchers. Castillo would not be blocking Flowers, they could easily both be on team together.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) 2 years/$15 million, $8 million club option in year 3 @JeffPassan Sources: Welington Castillo's deal with the White Sox is for $15 million guaranteed. It's a two-year deal with a club option for $8 million in the third year. @Ken_Rosenthal had the deal done first. this deal just got better.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:28 AM) That contract would be perfect. Sure, but why would he sign that? He'll probably get 2 years and $40M the next 2 seasons. So he's effectively getting 2 guaranteed years at $20M per. Security? Sure...but I think he'd do better in FA in he doesn't fall flat on his face the next two seasons.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) It is interesting to see people coming around on the idea that the window really isn't going to be there for 2019, but more like 2020 or even 2021 in this case. I am hopeful that the Sox are competitive in 2019, but I'm not turning down a good return for Abreu or Avi in hopes of that.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) Why does that turn you off when it's more control than we have of Jose? I certainly understand wanting to hang onto Abreu but this seems like an odd reason to be turned off by JBJ. I'd rather use our last great veteran trade piece to improve on our next core of players, not a guy who is going to be an impending FA next time we're good.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) The Red Sox would have to include JBJ in any deal for me to even consider them as a trading partner. Honestly, I’d probably need JBJ + Chavis and I would throw in a lesser prospect to offset some of that cost. Don’t think the Red Sox would do that though, which is fine since I don’t really want to trade Jose unless I’m overwhelmed. Only 3 years of control on Bradley turns me off a bit. But I suppose JBJ + Groome or Chavis + interesting flier or two could work.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Is there some sort of rule where they have to wait til this week to non-tender players? I would think if they non-tendered anyone, it would have happened to make room to protect prospects on the 40. My thoughts exactly.

40-man roster decisions and the Rule 5 Draft

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Also I said in another thread, I want to keep one spot open because I kind of want us to go after Nick Burdi on the Twins. He is injured and might be out for the year, so we wouldn't need to put him on the 25 this year, but he could be mlb ready and healthy for 2019, and he throws absolute gas. He would be another 80 grade fastball Nick Burdi has value though. The Twins almost got Jamie Garcia for him (while injured) this past deadline, but the Burdi portion of the deal fell through due to medicals. I think they'll trade him before they remove him from the 40 man. -

40-man roster decisions and the Rule 5 Draft
ChiSox59 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Add Jimenez, Guerrero, Peter, Gillaspie and Adolfo. Remove: Hanson, May, Putnam, Infante, Beck and Alburquerque. 6 spots open. Would consider a few others for sure. Adolfo very unlikely to get taken, but I am OK removing any doubt. He needs to keep guys like him in our system. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) I think the White Sox say no since they are looking to trade for prospects. Interesting proposal though. Agreed. 3 years of control on Bradley for 2 on Abreu. Bradley may be a tad cheaper on an AAV basis, but 2nd and 3rd arb years won't be cheap. I don't hate the idea, honestly...but I'd probably prefer to get a couple top 100 types instead if that is on the table (may not be).

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 12:33 AM) Yeah, I just think Clarkin was a pretty weak second piece. I know he was a pretty high pick a few years back, but I’m really not optimistic about him staying healthy or ever amounting to much of anything. We should have been able to do better IMO. I think it’s pretty clear that our front office felt it was better to use all their secondary pieces to land that one last blue chipper in Rutherford than moving guys piecemeal & bringing in a couple second tier prospects. I'm just not convinced Rutherford is really a blue chipper. Obviously hope I am wrong there.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) Yea, thought it light, too. Should have split those guys up. Anyway, like the thoroughness of your plan, and the intent of your trades - young player for young player. Like some of your moves more than others (I wouldn't give anything of value for Swithart, e.g.) I think we need more pitching that most people do. It was a Florial or Andjuar away from being a fine deal. For the first time, Hahn sacrificed talent to dump salary. Frazier had no value and Robertson had little surplus value. Both turned out well for Yankees who did very well in that trade.

Sox claim Daniel Palka from Twins. 26 YO 1B/OF. Numbers are nothing special.
