Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Moncada came up not because he was making Mincemeat of the Minors but because the major league trade deadline schedule dictated it. I'm guessing we'll see Kopech up after the Super-2 deadline for the same reason. Right. Post trade deadline is in August. Plus, who are the Sox going to have to trade in the rotation next July? Locks: Rodon, Lopez, Shields and Giolito (maybe not a lock for Gio yet, but at this point I'd be surprised if he isn't in OD rotation) Maybe they sign a flip candidate for the 5th spot, but there are plenty of internal options that could be given a shot (Stephens, Guerrero, Danish, Fulmer (unlikely), maybe even Adams). I'd lean towards giving the job to Stephens or Guerrero who will play the majority of next seasons at 25 and 24, instead of a guy like Chatwood or Sanitago that are unlikely to bring anything of value back in July.

DO NOT LIKE. I also don't think it will happen. Kopech is in AAA until August/September unless he is making mincemeat of AAA.

Delmonico scratched from line up
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) Another one bites the dust. You can't make this stuff up folks. You say this s*** all the time, and it's just flat out false. The Sox are about league average in terms of DL days. The 10 day DL has provided teams much more flexibility to use it.

Moncada to get MRI
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Service time is irrelevant unless we were planning on keeping him in the minors until mid-late 2018 which would be stupid. If they didn't call him up at all this year, late May would have done the trick, I'm pretty sure.

Moncada to get MRI
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) I would imagine the white sox time lost to the DL is not even top 10. #11 to be exact. MLB DL DAYS

Moncada to get MRI
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Given that this team has used the DL over 20 times (most for far longer than 10 days), I'm not surprised. Typical White Sox luck. Most teams have.

Moncada to get MRI
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Do they play on a foam-pit field in the minors? No, but this team is trash and Moncada didn't exactly force his way into the bigs. Make the young man earn it when all he is doing in the majors is blowing service time. And now here is blowing service time on the DL... I would have left him in AAA until next May. It is what it is. I totally understand the reasoning behind getting him to Chicago when they did. I just didn't love the decision.

Moncada to get MRI
Just another example of why calling him up this year was dumb.

Reverse Standings Thread
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) The wins don't do anything, but it would be nice for the future to see Moncada, Lopez, Giolito, Anderson, Rodon, etc. do well. Here's hoping our future core plays well but our veteran starters and garbage bullpen blow a lot of games.... This. Pretty simple concept really. I want Rodon, Lopez, Giolito, Moncada, Delmonico, Avi, Abreu, Anderson, etc to do well. The bullpen can and will be awful, but like said, I'd rather pick number #3 than all those guys suck nuts and pick #1. Especially when there is no clear cut #1 at the moment. What will happen will happen.

Your 2018 Chicago White Sox Opening Day Lineup
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) It is a stretch to call this a "crunch". There aren't a whole of players who are really going to harm us if they aren't the 40 man roster. I get some players have to be added, but there is plenty of room to carve off chaff. A good chunk of that bullpen is going to be erased, for good reason. Do you see Danny Farquar holding down a roster spot? Anyone really worried about a team claiming Tyler Danish? Greg Infante? I'd put money on Putnam being a non-tender with his injury and arb standing. There are also a few position players would will be carved off of the roster as well. I am going to bet that one of Hanson or Peterson isn't on the 40 man come winter. Alfredo Gonzalez is Spanish for unemployed come December. The OF is probably also one OF heavier than it needs to be, especially if Avi comes back next year. I laughed.

Your 2018 Chicago White Sox Opening Day Lineup
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) Larry on SSS did a good break down and there will be a crunch. https://www.southsidesox.com/2017/8/18/1615...coming-whitesox Yah, I've read it. I still don't think there will be a crunch. The Sox 40 man roster will be at 35 after the season and removal of impending FAs. Then the Sox have their pick of whomever they want to cut from the last list of bullets in Larry's article - my guess is Alfredo Gonzalez, Jacob May, Alen Hanson, Greg Infante, Petricka are all removed from the 40 man. That gets you down to 29. Cordell is already on the 40 man and included in my numbers. Add Liriano, Gillaspie, Peter, Fry, Guerrero, and Jimenez and you still have 5 spots left on the 40 to play with. Some dudes are going to get cut from the 40 man, but the Sox aren't going to be cutting legitimate assets to make room on the 40, and that is what I consider to be a true 40 man crunch.

Organizational changes
Leave Fulmer alone for now. Can move him to the pen in 2019 if next year is another failure. I like Peter as a poor man's Zobrist. I see no problem giving him OF reps. Hawkins is whatever to me. Bullpen, OF, release. Don't really care. Don't see the harm in giving him a shot on the mound first.

Reverse Standings Thread
Obviously a lot of time between now and the 2018 draft, but it sorta sucks that it appears the top 3 talents are all pitchers (Singer, McClanahan and Mize). We need a generational offensive talent with this pick. Makes me a little less concerned about getting the #1 pick (top 3 is nearly inevitable). I'd rather see some serious progress from the young guys on the roster lead to a few more wins.

Your 2018 Chicago White Sox Opening Day Lineup
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) Some of these guys like Willy, Saladino, Hanson, Smith won't survive a 40 man pair down. I'd be pretty surprised if one of the four isn't DFA. Otherwise, that lineup looks good just replace Davidson with The bessssssssss in July. There really isn't going to be a 40 man roster crunch. All of those guys sans Hanson should be safe (assuming Willy has an option left). The Sox are going to have around ten 40 man spots to play with between FA, Rule 5 additions (both internal and external) and any trade acquisitions. And Avi and Abreu are really the only guys on the roster that are tradeable that would bring back assets that would need to be protected.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) It's impossible for me to believe Engel has been not good in CF. He seems to have been covering for subpar players to his left and right and gotten everything hit over his head. All it proves to me is that defensive metrics still aren't all that great, because Engel is the real deal in CF.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) small sample size but Engel is not lighting up the defensive metrics. Leury grades out as much better The eye test tells me he is quite good. I am shocked the defensive metrics don't agree.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) They need to really see if they can turn Demonico into a LF if they think his bat is for real. He needs to be playing in the field regularly while the games don't matter to know if he can when they do. Agreed, I want to see him out there in LF at least 3 times a week with maybe 1 game at 1B, 1 at 3B, and 1/2 at DH. No point in not getting him reps in the field at this juncture.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) I want to see Engel in CF daily for the same idea, but the opposite reason. He is one hell of a defensive CF. He is almost has to be the best one in the organization. Now we have to see if he can hit. Engel should be in CF next year unless we somehow find a better option with mix of defense and hit tool. He can't hit much, but he is an elite defender. If Engel can become just a .240/.320/.390 guy, that is plenty valuable with his defense in CF until something better comes along.

Matt Davidson to DL, Avi Garcia back
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) There is plenty of that. 40 man roster is at 39, including Cordell who should be on it, but not reflected on mlb.com as on it, and the 60 day DLs. FA: Soto, Pelfrey, Gonzalez, Holland (reduces to 35) No brainer cut: Alfredo Gonzalez (reduces to 34) Other DFA candidates: Jacob May, DJ Peterson, Alen Hanson, Jake Petricka (non tender), Greg Infante, Danny Farquhar, and Chris Beck. Even if just 4 of those are removed from 40 man, roster goes down to 30. There will be plenty of room. I'd be super curious to see a list of guys on the 40 man that will be out of options next year. That would help clarify some things. Davidson, Leury, Liriano (not on 40 man), Hanson, Ynoa (not on 40 man), Farquhar and Yolmer are currently out of options. But my guess is list will at least double next season.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) From that timeline September 1st makes a lot of sense. Yah, otherwise Hanson is probably the odd man out. Which I am OK with, he kind of sucks. I don't see him making the team next year and he is out of options.

Off Season Trade Idea: Ryan McMahon
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) Based on...? Scouting reports. The fact that he has played more 1B and 2B than 3B this season. He is at BEST a MLB average 3B, and that is if he improves a ton. He is most likely a 1B/DH/RF types that can fill in at 2B and 3B if needed.
