  1. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Why is he not a major league 3B? He isn't good at it.
  2. He's not a major league 3B, but I wouldn't hate getting my hands on him. I suggested a Montas - McMahon swap a couple offseasons ago. Obviously that idea has passed, but perhaps do the same type of deal. Rockies will always be looking for pitching, and we have a good deal of minor league pitching.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) As of now, I'd predict it to look like this: 1. Leury Garcia CF 2. Yoan Moncada 2B 3. Jose Abreu 1B 4. Casey Gillaspie DH 5. Matt Davidson 3B 6. Nick Delmonico LF 7. Ryan Cordell RF 8. Kevan Smith C 9. Tim Anderson SS Rotation: 1. Carlos Rodon LHP 2. James Shields RHP 3. Lucas Giolito RHP 4. Reynaldo Lopez RHP 5. Veteran Free Agent Bullpen: Nate Jones RHP Zach Putnam RHP Free Agent Free Agent Aaron Bummer LHP 2 more spots I think you can probably pencil Danish, Goldberg and Minaya into the pen. I suppose they could start in AAA, but each will definitely get their share of time in the pen next year.
  4. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Are you serious? Finding warts on his game? Hitting just .276? Striking out too much? As an 18 yr old. In A ball. He should be a high school senior for crying out loud. Even with the influx of talent in the farm, right now if the Sox still had Tatis, he would be the best player on Kanny, as an 18 year old. Ce la vie. Lol..I have him plenty of credit in my post. What he has done is very impressive. Just not quite ready to crown him the next Manny Machado quite yet. Is that ok with you?
  5. Pretty shocked he cleared waivers, but I guess that gives Hahn more flexibility.
  6. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 05:28 PM) So is the cash all we are getting back or is there still a ptbnl? its not very clear if that is the return or just part of the return. I don't think anyone know for sure, but probably safe to assume Astros took on $1M of the ~1.2M remains on Clippards deal and that's it. No PTBNL.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) I wish some poster would make a thread that tracks how all of our former players are doing. I watched Robertson get a save last night. I haven't heard much about any of the former Sox now on other teams. It would be cool to have day to day updates on each of them. lol, why? Who cares.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) Giolito has 39 days of service as of today. When you add in a couple of weeks to pass the service time deadline that would put him at need to join the Sox roster sometime around the 3rd week of May for the extra year of control. I just don't see that happening. Get him up here September 1st or whenever the next starter is dumped. Two months in AAA for Giolito isn't inconceivable if the Sox signed two guys like Santiago/Bucholz/Estrada/Chatwood as flip candidates to fill out the rotation, but I totally understand your logic.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) If you plan on having him up next year, his service time doesn't matter anymore. I don't plan on him breaking camp with the team. I would go with a rotation of: 1) Rodon 2) Lopez 3) 1 year deal FA 4) 1 year deal FA 5) Shields Make Giolito, Fulmer, Stephens and Guerrero earn a promotion in AAA, and have a couple guys that are flip candidates in the rotation. All that said, if the Sox plan on having Giolito be on the opening day roster next season, then I can't argue them bringing him up for a few starts this year as it will make no difference. I am not THAT passionate about it one way or another, and Gio has been quite good over his past several starts. I just hate wasting service time on our precious assets in what we know is going to be a another awful team in 2018, but it is inevitable. I'd honestly prefer to see fringe guys like Stephens or Guerrero get an opening day rotation spot. Again...just an opinion.
  10. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) Tough crowd. This is a guy who had to change his mechanics at the beginning of the season. I just don't see the point in calling him up this year. Save the service time and let him earn a spot next season.
  11. $1M...that's it? Yawn. I figured the Astros claimed Clippard, in which case the Sox would have gotten more to just let him go (he was still due ~1.2M). Hopefully there is still a PTBNL.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) Miguel Gonzalez could be traded by then. Giolito will probably be in the rotation as much as Lopez is by next Monday. Giolito has done very little to deserve a call up in my opinion. I would let him finish the season in Charlotte. A 1.41 WHIP in AAA isn't going to translate real well.
  13. Both Hayes and Merkin has suggested Giolito there, so I bet its him. Wouldn't be my choice.
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:07 AM) Put him on the DL until expanded rosters and bring him back 9/1...if his ego gets the better of him oh well. Then see where he fits in next spring. Could always just send Engel down for a couple weeks until rosters expand. Go with Delmonico - Leury - Avi OF until September 1. Hanson 4th OF and Yolmer emergency OF.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) ... with? Toe soreness? Honestly, probably not a bad idea.
  16. QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) It kills me that Tatis Jr is doing so well. And I don't like to cheer for a player to suck and his career end. But even if he did suck and never made it to the majors it would still be a net positive compared to what Shields gave us the last 2 years and (hold on while I puke) next year Tatis is super exciting and likely to be a consensus top 30 prospect next year. But he also has struck out 30% of the time in low A ball and is hitting just .276. I will wait to crown him a future preferential all star until I see him show this kind of power and plate discipline against more polished pitching. But no doubt Hahn chose the wrong guy.
  17. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) I think Gio and Kopech are up once the Sox secure the extra year of control. I'd be tempted to let Kopech start the year in the Sox rotation Ain't gonna happen. I'd be blown away if the Kopech throws a pitch in the majors before next September, and actually surprised if he even pitches for the Sox at all next season. 2019 is the year.
  18. Wonder who goes with Davidson comes back. Delmonico deserves to stay. Could send Engel down for a couple weeks. Could end the Alen Hanson experiment.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Unconfirmed rumor it is Tony Kemp If it is Kemp, we should know by tomorrow.
  20. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) Even if we lost him back to the A's, would we really be losing much? He's already 26 and got shredded during his ML stint, has only 6 games of AA play and only 2 at AAA (both during his rehab assignment). I am certainly no Covey fan, but at this point, we may as well keep him on the roster. Clearly he isn't going to be a ML starter, but maybe he can become a useful middle reliever. He can go back to the minors next year.
  21. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) So that's the same rule? I thought Nieto had to be on the roster all season? Covey was recalled from the minors? Covey has been on the DL. You can spend time on the DL, but must spend 90 active days on the 25 man.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) No, they play every team in the NL West this year, but each team plays one team 2 home, 2 away. The Sox have the Dodgers. I meant NL West.
  23. This series should be ugly.
  24. Everyone in the AL Central plays everyone in the AL West 2 series this year, I believe.
  25. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Why does he need 90 days on the roster? Rule 5 picks need 90 days on the roster to keep in your organization.
