QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) Not sure how to max Kopech WAR given expected TJS. How is TJS any more expected for Kopech than any other professional pitcher?

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Edit to add: screw Tebow and just call up Hawkins. That would be kind of fun.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Moncada, Lopez, and Giolito are on the doorstep and pretty much have to be moved up. Kopech is a different story. Disagree on Giolito. He has done very little to prove his ready to take the ball every 5th day in the bigs. I don't really think he should see the majors this year, but suspect they'll call him up for a few starts in September. Next year? I'd bring him into ST with the idea that he can earn a spot in rotation, and if he doesn't, back to AAA. Lopez, yes I agree. He is ready and should be up. Moncada. Ehhhh. He had good not great numbers in AAA. I know his injury derailed him a bit, but there is easily an argument to be made that he should still be in AAA. Not to mention they have several other options at his position. I am fine with being in Chicago, but I don't think he exactly forced his way there. Now that he is there, he needs to stay there.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Why rush him? This is going to be a replacement level team next year. We shouldn't be in any hurry to burn service time until we need to. This is really what it comes down to for me. We're already wasting precious Moncada time. I personally would have kept Moncada in AAA until next summer, but now that he is here, he needs to stay here.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) I wouldn't be shocked if Kopech got a hard look during Spring for an MLB rotation spot. I would be absolutely floored. I don't think Kopech pitches in the bigs until 2019. I could see him getting a few starts next September, I suppose. Or if the Sox are somehow in the WC race some mid July (highly highly highly unlikey) and Kopech is making mincemeat of AAA, maybe the Sox bring him up. I'd put the odds of him breaking camp with the big league club next year at less than 1/100.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Pitching, you got: 1. Rodon 2. Shields 3. Lopez 4. Danish 5. Veteran signing Release one of Shields, cheap veteran signing or both when Giolito and/or Fulmer is ready. Or they can replace Danish. I'd give either the 4 or 5 spot to Guerrero or Stephens. Both should get plenty of starts for the White Sox next season. I don't see Danish as a starter at all, so I don't even see the point in trying to force that, but I suppose I'd be fine with him in the rotation to start the year and give Guerrero, Stephens, Fulmer and Giolito more time in AAA.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 09:05 AM) I don't think he was prepared for the majors and should probably still be in the minors but I also felt that Rodon should have not come up until this year as well. Rodon in AAA last year would have been a joke. Like MLB players association grievance joke.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Uh, leury has been one of the Sox' best players. He is a sell high guy or surefire starting cf next year. Leury will probably be in LF. Engel in CF. Delmonico at DH.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Props to the poster who mentioned Peterson as an option. Thanks. Seemed like a no brainer to me. Sox need to take a chance on as many of these types of guys as possible. If they don't show any reason to hang onto them, you don't. It's one luxury on being bad.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 09:48 AM) This is my favorite of the minor July trades (among Cabrera, Jennings, Swarzak). At least one of the pitchers is a legit prospect, which is nice return. Cordell and Gillespie are better prospects than Puckett.

Lopez is already listed as the probable starter in whitesox.com.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) The same can be said for guys like Engel, Leury, and May... and those guys won't hurt young pitching with their defense. My guess is May is more or less out of the picture. He may get a September call up, but I don't expect to see him again after that. You could probably put Cordell, Willy and Tilson in that category tho (needing MLB at bats), though more in the longer term since they're all hurt at the moment.

Al Albuquerque signed and assigned to Charlotte. So that happened.

OMG! I WAS WORRIED IT WOULD NEVER RETURN! In all honesty, if there was ever a time for it to die during a season, it didn't chose an awful time.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) I was having this issue earlier today. It is working now though. I get a white page that says "this website is temporary unavailable, please try again later." Works on my phone fine however.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) When I'm logged out, if I click a thread it'll redirect to another site. I think this is the problem I am having, and then the redirects are getting blocked.

If Shields were claimed (complete hypothetical, I know he won't get claimed), would the claiming team be on the hook for his remaining salary (including portion Pads are supposed to pay), or just the Sox portion? I would assume the whole portion since technically the Pads just sent money with Shields in the deal.

For some reason the site became blocked on my work computer today. Really hoping that this is the issue. Reading Soxtalk from my phone during the work day is not sustainable! Still not able to access, so hoping some kinks are still being ironed out. Otherwise what a strange coincidence (and a damn shame).

Wooohooo! Glad to see him get his opportunity.

What happened to Matt Cooper? Hasn't pitched in a month or so, had some rough outings before that. Thanks

Saw on the Sox transactions page that Covey was sent on a rehab assignment to the AZL Sox. So we have that to look forward to!

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) I really like Alen Hanson as a bench guy. He's fast, and can play all OF spots and 2B. He's an interesting guy, and definitely one the Sox should be taking a look at. Problem is, he kind of sucks.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Rangers hit this one out of the park. 2 lottery tickets and a young player with high-HR, high OBP, high walk, low strikeout potential for 3 months of a pitcher having a mediocre at best season? Incredible. I am not an enamored. Its a fine deal, but I wouldn't be that excited if I were a Texas fan. Not to mention the rest of their deals sucked. -

Seems like the price for pitching has gone done. Glad Rick made the moves when he did for Q and Sale.
