Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
My 2018 opening day 25 man: C: Narvaez / Smith 1B: Abreu 2B: Moncada SS: Anderson 3B: Davidson / Delmonico LF: Leury CF: Engel RF: Avisail DH: Delmonico / Davidson BN: Tilson BN: Yolmer BN: Saladino 1. Rodon 2. Lopez 3. Shields 4. Giolito 5. Fulmer Pen: Jones, Petricka, Goldberg, Beck, Bummer, Holmberg and Minaya First guys up: Cordell, Gillaspie, Peter and Liriano for bats. Clark, Danish and Brennan for pen. Stephens, Guerrero and Cooper for rotation. May as well give what we got a shot. I don't really see the point in bringing in vets, except maybe guys on minor league deals that can start in Charlotte and come up if needed.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) The Cubs thought Jimenez was MLB ready this spring. I trust their judgment. Kopech is on a perfect timetable to be a 2018 midseason callup. If it perfectly conceivable that neither of those guys play an inning in the big leagues until 2019. You're schedule is at least a year ahead of reality.

White Sox trade deadline
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) Rodon and Shields for sure, Lopez gets the call-up, maybe Danish or Volstad, Holmberg and Beck can move to the rotation. Fulmer shouldn't be called up. Maybe Giolito. They have enough guys as options to cover the final 2 spots (or 3 if they want to do a 6-man rotation). I'd be fine with Fulmer getting the call. At this point I am pretty convinced he is a reliever, but I have no problem giving him several starts down the stretch. Why not? Giolito - I'd keep him in AAA until that season is over and reassess then. I don't really want to see him in Chicago this year, except for maybe a start or 2 in September.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 11:13 PM) We just traded for Casey Gillespie, I'd rather give him a shot than pursue Peterson You could give both of them a shot. Delmonico, while not really a 3B, is going to be in the majors soonish, and there is no reason to not grab a guy like Peterson when we'll have first dibs. Plenty of spots on the 40 man, and if he sucks, you can move on quickly. I don't see the harm.

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 06:13 PM) You are absolutely correct, but there have been posts from multiple members trying to make the case that it's harder to perform when the team is losing, it really doesn't matter because of all the losses, ect. Clearly, that is wrong. Absolutely.

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) Which is the perfect reason why I don't want to hear from anyone "These ABs are meaningless to these guys, they don't care....ect." Aside from Abreu, basically everyone is trying out for their job right now. The effort is always going to be there, but truth of the matter is, if we get 5 guys from the current 25 man not named Rodon and Moncada to be on the next 85+ win White Sox team, that is going to be an accomplishment.

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) As someone pointed out earlier here, this actually increases the chance that Sox will offer Melky a one year deal next off season. Doubt the Sox bring many vets in next year. Plenty of younger controllable guys to give the ABs to. Don't see the point in bringing back a guy like Melky.

Former top prospect and 2013 first rounder DJ Peterson DFAd by the Mariners today. With extra 40 man spots, and the Sox with the top waiver spot, I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a chance on him. Still has 2 option years. He's probably toast, but still just 25. What's the harm?

Melky Cabrera Traded To Royals
Nice deal. A couple interesting guys that may be a part of the Sox pen in the future. No complaints here. Guessing that is the last trade before the deadline but wouldn't be shocked to see Gonzo go.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) I'm going to find watching these guys get called up to be too much fun. I haven't purchased my tickets for when they're in Houston yet because I'm hoping Giolito or Lopez will be on the bump one of those games. And I can't wait to see Kopech. I'd be shocked if we see Kopech before 2019.

Should Giolito pitch in Chicago this year?
I'd give him a couple starts after the AAA season is over.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) I don't think they want to trade Abreu, so really Melky and Gonzalez, and Melky may be an August guy are the 2 left to move. Then this winter will be incredibly dull. Everyone will be in their best shape and look better than ever on the field for spring training. Then the season will commence, as will the long losing streaks. The draft will occur. Everyone will declare Hostetler a genius. Then more losing, maybe a couple of call ups in August and September for some hope, then offseason 2018-2019 which will be either extremely interesting or extremely dull, depending on the development. So true. The next ~15 months of White Sox baseball is going to be really boring.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) We will get the next Colton Turner for him. I'd hope we could get a little more than the return on Dioner F'in Navarro for Gonzo. He is at least useful.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) They won't just stick him out in a major league outfield without significant preparation. We'll see other outfielders over him at this point, like a Cordell/Polo/W.Garcia/Liriano. Delmonico has played a decent amount of OF the past two years. Definitely not his main position, but its not like they're throwing him out there without any preparation. In fact, I am a little surprised they went with Willy instead of Delmonico. May as well give the guy an opportunity at some point.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) They probably don't need Melky and this is a pipe dream but getting Willie Calhoun in this organization would be incredible. Sadly, unless the Dodgers really like Yolmer/Gonzalez and more, I'm sure we can't get him While probably a complete pipedream, where would Willie Calhoun play? We do have that Moncada guy over at 2B, and Calhoun is knocking at the doorstep.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
QUOTE (Whiterat29 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) Pipeline has been updated, they have him at #14 Ahead of Burdi, Adam, Adolfo, Sheets and Cordell. I probably would have put him between Adolfo and Sheets.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) Where will Gillaspie fall on the prospect list for the Sox? He was the Rays' #10, but I imagine he'll be quite a bit lower in our system. Somewhere in the 20s? 50 FV on MLBPIPELINE. Cordell is the last 50 FV, and he is at 18. So I'd guess somewhere between 17 and 19.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
Pretty nice deal. By no means is it super exciting, but Gillaspie will be a nice DH/1B option for the next few years. A few short months ago, he was a pretty legit prospect. Seems like a good deal for the Sox. Obviously Jennings has a couple more years of control, but the chances of both him being effective and the Sox actually competing in 2019 are pretty low. Nice move. He should slot in right around Cordell in the backend of the Sox top 20.

Leury Garcia to start rehab assignment
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) He's better than Hanson by about 20 miles. Not sure why Hanson is around. The Sox should be taking chances on just about any young player with potential upside they can get off waivers at the moment.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) I don't mind that, but you also need people to eat innings, and a lot of these young guys will hit their inning limits come August. I've thought about Pelfrey to the bullpen before though too. His effectiveness, if I recall, actually goes up the second time people see him, but he is absolutely destroyed the third time. As a reliever, he might not be a terrible pitcher. Plus, you can put him back in the rotation for a few starts down the line if need be.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) Yeah and a team could easily say that they want to take on all/most of the contract in order to give up less. True. I didn't mean it in absolutes, but moreso that I hope we're open to eating a good chunk of his salary IF it improves the return.
-
Dan Jennings
I am sure he is available. But doubt the offers are there.

I hope the Sox are willing to eat the ~$5M and try to actually get something interesting back.

Will Eloy Jimenez get to AA this year?
I bet he'll go up there in a week or two.
