8/9
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) There is no reason as of yet to convert him. This is his first full season as a minor league starting pitcher. Realistically he shouldn't even be at AAA yet. He can be made a reliever at any time. He can't be made a starter at any time. Let him start, give him his reps, let him work on mechanics, release point, and mental approach. This. No reason to give up yet.

Players weekend
Had to get the Yo Yo shirt and that hat. Sweet stuff.

White Sox acquire Steve Johnson
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) I use the name Kyle McMahon cuz that person just sounds uninteresting. Hey! That is like 3 letter away from being my name!

Reynaldo getting the call and the ball on Friday
QUOTE (bjm676 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Might as well get rid of Volstad while they're at it. No reason he should be taking starts away from Stephens or Guerrero. Seriously.

Reynaldo getting the call and the ball on Friday
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) No mention of who gets sent down. Infante or Minaya? May as well just waive Infante. He has no future with this organization. Minaya is at least younger and mildly interesting.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) Scot Gregor @scotgregor 10m10 minutes ago #WhiteSox OF Willy Garcia says he's feeling better but can't eat solid food for another week. Says he's already lost 10-20 pounds Maybe I should break my jaw. (kidding)

8/7 Games
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) The problem CWS is pointing out is that there's already a glut destined for WS next year and there's no room for Dedelow at WS. As things look right now, the starting OF for WS would be Adolfo/Rutherford/Gonzalez with Fisher and Call on the bench. No room for Dedelow. Only way to not only make room for Dedelow but also get him playing time would be to ( as has been suggested ) move Fisher to 1B and move Call to Birmingham which would leave WS with four outfielders and Fisher as a 5th OF. Or, move both Fisher and Call to Birmingham which I admit , neither are worthy of at this time. This is quite the conundrum. Why can't Gonzalez stay in Kanny to start the year? Having too many legit OF prospects is a better problem than not having enough.

Robert out a week to 10 days
I don't know what the playing conditions are like in the DSL, but I wouldn't be surprised if the outfields were s***. Probably wouldn't hurt to get him on some real playing surfaces.

Reds Claim DJ Peterson from White Sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I'm sure they've been moving someone else there, but right now the only person on Charlotte's roster listed as a 3b is some 28 year old named Gerson Montilla and he's on the DL. Not like this is a position where we have no slot to put him. Yah, Peterson has split time between 1B and 3B the past few years, but I expect him to play 3B in Charlotte with both Hayes and Gillaspie at 1B.

Matt Davidson to DL, Avi Garcia back
Maybe some Delmonico at 3B? Certainly a better defensive lineup is Saladino or Sanchez at 3B, Leury in LF, Engel in CF, and Delmonico at DH but we shall see.

Bummer for Davidson.

2018 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) One thing to keep in mind was Hostetler did say he would have taken Zack Collins 1-1, and he wasn't exactly known for his defensive prowess, but this will be a whole different set of players. Maybe it's still early but it's too bad there isn't a ARod or Ken Griffey Jr. out there, a no brainer #1. If there were, though, we might see some more apparent tanking from our tanking brethren, making it harder to get that spot anyhow.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) We will be dollar store shoppers this offseason. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see the Sox sign basically no one to a ML deals. Maybe a couple cheap pen arms to flip. Other than that, our positions are pretty covered with dudes that need ML at bats. Plenty of rotation options, though I suppose I could see a scrapheap signing ala Holland to make Giolito, Fulmer, Guerrero and Stephens earn their chances down in Charlotte.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) With the number of young pitchers we should have entering next year's rotation I won't scream "ick" at the concept of a veteran catcher, there are a couple guys in there who are good at handling pitching staffs (Tyler Flowers, Kurt Suzuki perhaps?, Lucroy, Wieters), but I dunno that I have a lot more confidence in any of them than the pair we currently have. Flowers option will be picked up. Suzuki and Wieters are two of the worst framers in the game. Thought Wieters is interesting enough. Lucroy is probably going to get expensive. Too expensive for the Sox in their current situation.

Reds Claim DJ Peterson from White Sox
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 08:05 PM) I'm usually all for grabbing guys with some talent when there is little risk beyond the occupied roster spot, but uh...I'm not seeing a ton of talent with this guy. He wasn't really a physical tools guy out of the draft but instead a highly polished hitter, but the polish seems to have worn off. Whats the harm though? The sox had 5 open 40 man spots (with a slew of guys who won't be on it in a few months). If they don't like what they see, they can DFA him whenever and try to keep him in organization. There really is no harm at all, and you never know when a change of scenery makes something click for a guy like this. Chances of him becoming an asset are very small, but there is literally zero risk.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) Not sure how to max Kopech WAR given expected TJS. How is TJS any more expected for Kopech than any other professional pitcher?

Tebow
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Edit to add: screw Tebow and just call up Hawkins. That would be kind of fun.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Moncada, Lopez, and Giolito are on the doorstep and pretty much have to be moved up. Kopech is a different story. Disagree on Giolito. He has done very little to prove his ready to take the ball every 5th day in the bigs. I don't really think he should see the majors this year, but suspect they'll call him up for a few starts in September. Next year? I'd bring him into ST with the idea that he can earn a spot in rotation, and if he doesn't, back to AAA. Lopez, yes I agree. He is ready and should be up. Moncada. Ehhhh. He had good not great numbers in AAA. I know his injury derailed him a bit, but there is easily an argument to be made that he should still be in AAA. Not to mention they have several other options at his position. I am fine with being in Chicago, but I don't think he exactly forced his way there. Now that he is there, he needs to stay there.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Why rush him? This is going to be a replacement level team next year. We shouldn't be in any hurry to burn service time until we need to. This is really what it comes down to for me. We're already wasting precious Moncada time. I personally would have kept Moncada in AAA until next summer, but now that he is here, he needs to stay here.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) I wouldn't be shocked if Kopech got a hard look during Spring for an MLB rotation spot. I would be absolutely floored. I don't think Kopech pitches in the bigs until 2019. I could see him getting a few starts next September, I suppose. Or if the Sox are somehow in the WC race some mid July (highly highly highly unlikey) and Kopech is making mincemeat of AAA, maybe the Sox bring him up. I'd put the odds of him breaking camp with the big league club next year at less than 1/100.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Pitching, you got: 1. Rodon 2. Shields 3. Lopez 4. Danish 5. Veteran signing Release one of Shields, cheap veteran signing or both when Giolito and/or Fulmer is ready. Or they can replace Danish. I'd give either the 4 or 5 spot to Guerrero or Stephens. Both should get plenty of starts for the White Sox next season. I don't see Danish as a starter at all, so I don't even see the point in trying to force that, but I suppose I'd be fine with him in the rotation to start the year and give Guerrero, Stephens, Fulmer and Giolito more time in AAA.

Delmonico promoted to big league club
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 09:05 AM) I don't think he was prepared for the majors and should probably still be in the minors but I also felt that Rodon should have not come up until this year as well. Rodon in AAA last year would have been a joke. Like MLB players association grievance joke.

Who Should Be In The Lineup Next Year?
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Uh, leury has been one of the Sox' best players. He is a sell high guy or surefire starting cf next year. Leury will probably be in LF. Engel in CF. Delmonico at DH.

Reds Claim DJ Peterson from White Sox
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Props to the poster who mentioned Peterson as an option. Thanks. Seemed like a no brainer to me. Sox need to take a chance on as many of these types of guys as possible. If they don't show any reason to hang onto them, you don't. It's one luxury on being bad.
