  1. I can't wait until we don't have to watch Covey pitch except in laughers. The guy sucks. Get healthy, Carlos. And Shields. Too bad Lopez can't come up for another few weeks.
  2. Just keep winning series. Could be fun with Moncada, Lopez and Delmonico in a few weeks. Need the pen to get healthy. As I said before the season multiple times, won't be surprised at all to see this team around .500 in late June.
  3. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 4, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) Oh the arrogance. Mark This post made me laugh out loud.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 4, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) You're right I think I worded that wrong. He can rehab and work but he won't be pitching in a big league game before June 1. Regarding injuries, I checked last night and there is one team that does not have anyone on the DL right now...and...naturally...that's the Cubs. The difference is the White Sox need guys healthy so they can get something for them, this is critical towards the rebuild. And in typical Sox luck, they get blasted by injuries. Mark I don't really think you can call the Sox unlucky to this point.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ May 4, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) With the 16th pick in the 2018 First Year Player Draft, the Chicago White Sox select... Seth Beer. Dude will probably still be there.
  6. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) Will the last healthy White Sox player please turn off the clubhouse lights before leaving to go on the DL? 7th Sox player (6th pitcher) currently on the DL. It's 2000-2001 all over again. So much for these guys staying healthy so they can be traded for something. Hahn today said it's "minor" and he should be pitching again "in a few weeks." Where have we heard THAT before this year? LOL. Rodon was moved to the 60 day DL because the report said the Sox feel it'll be at least June 1 before he can do a rehab assignment. Mark You sure you cannot rehab while on the DL? I think that just means he can't come back to the ML before June 1, but pretty sure he can pitch in AAA. Also...you'll notice DL stints are way up across the league. The 10 day DL allows teams much more flexibility. Obviously the bullpen has taken a bit of a hit so far this year, but its not like this is some crazy phenomenon only occurring on the SOx.
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 2, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) I'm actually intrigued to see Covey in the bullpen. I don't think he has what it takes to cut it as a starter in the majors but something might be there as a reliever. I don't see it. Dude gets hit HARD.
  8. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ May 2, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) Of course no one would complain about having an abundance of cost controlled pitching, but also remember the White Sox system was so barren of any hitting talent, that twice in recent years they had to hit the free agent market for a DH (Thome and Dunn). Spending good money on a DH reeks of desperation. Ideally, I think you want a mixture of position players and pitchers. As for the bolded, look no further than Trea Turner, Alex Bregman, Dansby Swanson, etc. all of whom were said to be off limits in trades for Q. I don't think the prime asset has to be cost controlled pitching anymore. Almost every AL team has a FA DH.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Covey may lose his spot in the rotation, but I imagine we will see him all year in some capacity. He's a Rule 5 pick on a rebuilding club. I am aware of his status, but the dude isn't very good. I'd be surprised if he lasted all year. Rule 5 pick or not.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 2, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) I would assume until Rodon and Shields are both back in the rotation. Unless they trade Holland or Gonzalez. I think we'll see Lopez in the rotation before Rodon. Not convinced they'll chose Covey over Pelfrey when Shields comes back.
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 2, 2017 -> 01:12 AM) Willy. Rabbit, how long are they going to keep running Covey out there? Until Lopez can come up?
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 2, 2017 -> 07:11 AM) Mid May to early June, i.e. whenever they can get the extra year of service time out of Moncada, Delmonico, etc. The extra year of service shouldn't be a concern for Delmonico.
  13. QUOTE (harkness @ May 1, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) I'm very baffled with why May is still up here... and getting in the line-up. Dayan Viciedo available? Need someone who can backup CF. But I agree, he should go down to AAA. That said, he is a non prospect, so not he needs everyday ABs in AAA.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ May 1, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) Saladino 2B Anderson SS Cabrera LF Abreu 1B Frazier DH Davidson 3B L Garcia CF Narvaez C May RF I hope the Covey experiment is almost over. I'd rather watch Pelfrey...and that is saying something.
  15. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) Definitely uninterested in the rebuild.too bad, deal with it. Been playing some pretty good baseball.
  16. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Apr 30, 2017 -> 01:44 AM) Never would've thought Eaton would go down before Sale. That's too bad at least his contract is manageable. He's probably going to be worth almost nothing at the back end of that contract. The backend of his contract are option years.
  17. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 09:54 PM) Well let's say they trade Frazier and bring up Moncada, moving Saladino to third. It can be argued that move may actually improve the team in the present as well as the future. Say they trade Holland or Gonzales but one of their young pitchers is doing well in the minors. They would be replacing the departed pitcher from within plus be adding to the organization with the return from the trade. Trading Melky would be a little trickier unless they get a young outfielder back that's just about ready to play in the major leagues. Sox are in a good position as long as Hahn does it right. However, if he just starts haphazardly gutting the team for low level prospects that are years away while having nothing to replace what they traded, it will be a move backward. Hahn needs to hold out for value and be prepared to keep his players if the right price is not met. This. All depends on the returns. By all means trade if you get impact young talent. But of this team is contending, trading the impending FA for garbage that is never going to make the big leagues does nothing for me. But we still have a long way to go before we're at that point.
  18. This team was never as bad as most here thought it'd be. Still think Cleveland will run away with this division in the end, but wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox in the thick of things in early July.
  19. Dane Dunning to WS. Ian Hamilton to BIRM. RHP El'Hajj Muhammad released.
  20. Best of luck to Pelfrey against the (previous to their last 2 games) red hot Tigers offense.
  21. Pretty funny he's getting no run support from the Bo Sox so far this season.
  22. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) Initially I was pro-tank for the draft pick, but we're much better suited to guys playing well and building value than getting a draft pick a few slots higher. I'd rather get the #6 pick and have Kahnle/Swarzak/Holland/Gonzalez turn into viable trade pieces than get the #2 pick and have all of them suck. Glad some people are coming around to this line of thinking. So much better for the organization, IMO. Several other names you could add to that list.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) We have seen Avi get hot before, exactly like this. There is not many reasons to believe this cat changed his stripes Has he had a 20 game stretch where he has been THIS hot though? We're now 20 games in and Avi leads the AL in hitting, and is top 5 in OPS. I don't think he has suddenly become a star, but its pretty obvious that something has clicked. He is keeping is bat in the zone much longer. He isn't overswinging on every pitch. He is using the whole field. That, combined with his improved conditioning, and I think we have seen a young player that is finally coming into his own. I don't expect Avi to lead the league in hitting, or heck, even eclipse .300 by seasons end, but it does seem like perhaps we finally have an above average contributor with the bat. Time will tell, and I remain a little skeptical, but I believe more and more everyday.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 09:38 PM) I realize last year's 23-10 renders all discussion stupid at this stage of the season. I mean I wish I could remember last year's 23-10 and how sharp the Sox looked and how well they were playing. But I have no clue. Can't remember. This year's team obviously won't be 23-10. We'll be under .500 after 33 games obviously. I get madder than anybody when the Sox anemic hitters get shut out and I expect us to get shut out a historic amount of times this year. But when Avi wins another game with his bat it does impress me. When this pathetic bullpen excels like this, I'm happy. And when some really horrible starters pitch this well, I'm ecstatic. Right now I'm thrilled with Renteria. Again, after our 100th loss I'll be furious at him I'm sure, but the team sure looks interested under a real manager. What a post!
