White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) He's doom and gloom on the Sox. The Padres were the opposing force against the Sox here so naturally Balta is going to support them. Your take is strong and without holes, but when I have posters messaging me with the "Balta would come back at this time in the Sox season" and "Of course Balta hates the trade" I feel the I have to say something. I wasn't going to nitpick through his argument, but his shtick is annoying people to a point where they come to me to complain or poke fun at it. Youre not alone in your stance. His Bs and obvious agenda has bugged me for years, even when I was just a daily lurker and didn't post.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Source: #Padres sending #WhiteSox more than $30M in Shields trade. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/739203258292412416 Even better. Not sure how anyone can be mad at acquiring James Shields sub $10M a year. Could be as low at $7 or $8M. You obviously hope he is very good, but be doesn't even have to be league average to be worth that much.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) I assume we'd pay the buyout. Maybe 7, 9, 9, and then the 2 mill buyout? Basically paying him to be a 4th starter, and he could be much much better than that. This is nothing but a good deal.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) The #Padres will pay $29 million and #Whitesox pay $27 million left in James Shields deal https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/739199974609539072 There ya go, Bob.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) So if James Shields does not opt out of deal, #WhiteSox will pay $27 million and #Padres pay $19 of the remaining $56 M in deal https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/739199563936845824 He can't do math.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) The #Whitesox are paying $27 million of the remainder of James Shields contract https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/739198695036489728 Not bad. Let's call it $7M this year, and $10M in 17 and 18. That ain't bad for James Shields. Less than half of what he's due.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Real @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) This makes no sense. Unless the Sox plan on acquiring a few guys who can hit, then this is a retarded mive. The white sox have a month and a half to improve the offense.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 1m1 minute ago The #Padres are expected to eat about half of remaining $56 million in Shields contract when they trade him. Great news.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) Mods, can I have the power to delete Green Sox's posts on here? And maybe change my title from Benchwarmer to Garbage Man. Thanks boys +1000. Guys a clown.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
I'd be cool with Shields if the Sox can get him at $13-14M AAV, and don't give up anything meaningful. Shields would be a big upgrade. I do think a DH or OF bat should be a higher priority though. If it's one or the other is prefer the bat.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) Why does he insist on Shuck batting 5th?! (Has flashbacks of 2005 Timo Perez batting 5th). MUST. BREAK. UP. RIGHTIES.

Your Trade Target Wishlist
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) Any one with any sense of actually building a winning organization that can contend year after year. But people who admire what the Padres did last season would welcome this type of proposal. I just wonder why the Brewers are rebuilding when they have such an elite core like that. A good reliever, a good catcher with 1.5 years of control and Ryan Braun in an "elite core"? lolz.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) I would much rather trade for pitching as it does not seem like we have much coming up from our system. We could use another starter, sure, but Sale-Quintana-Rodon-Fulmer leaves the Sox in pretty good shape for next several years. Plus there are some decent arms as insurance policies in the minors. I'd take another arm, but we need a good OF bat or a legit DH (preferably from the left side) much more, IMO.

Your Trade Target Wishlist
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) 7 for 3 trade with the Brewers, with Sox taking on all money. Who says no (other than GreenSox)? Sox Get: Jonathon Lucroy Ryan Braun Will Smith Brewers Get: Carson Fulmer Jordan Guerrero Trey Michalczewski Jacob May (or Adam Engel) Jhoandro Alfaro Carlos Sanchez Matt Davidson New Sox Lineup: 1. Eaton, RF 2. Abreu, 1B 3. Braun, LF 4. Cabrera, DH 5. Frazier, 3B 6. Lucroy, C 7. Lawrie, 2B 8. Jackson, CF 9. Saladino, SS Ryan Braun would be pretty neat, but that seems like a lot to give up for a guy who's value is tarnished, and an injury prone C you control for only ~215 games. I'm sure the Brewers would want more, but that seems steep to me.

Your Trade Target Wishlist
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) How many experienced AL hitters are going to give you a return of an 850+ OPS against RHP and not cost something significant? Beltran is one of the better choices out there, because of his age, playoff experience and contract. Kelly Johnson only has a 548 OPS against RHP this year and ONLY 715 over the much more indicative three year timeframe. Not sure how that clearly makes us better. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/...ing3/aaron-hill Aaron Hill would seem to be the better choice, based on this season. Otoh, coming from NL to AL, he's not LH, he plays a position we don't have a pressing need at, so unless he could put up current 812 OPS for the White Sox at DH and not his close to 700 splits (they're basically even over 2013-2015), then it's not a big improvement either. They would be better off with Rollins against LHP and then ANYONE NOT NAMED AVI GARCIA against RHP. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/30867/jerry-sands LOL. Career-wise, Jerry Sands has 549 and 551 splits against LH/RH pitching, about what you'd expect. WOEFUL. However, if you go by his minor league numbers, he's been at over 800 the last couple of seasons against RHP...especially for Columbus, where he was at 940 against RHP and 970 against LHP. But how much stock do you want to put in AAA numbers? I am not saying I want Kelly Johnson over Beltran, just think Kelly Johnson would be a nice dude to have on the bench for his flexibility. Beltran would be fine, I'd just prefer to see someone like Cargo for the bat, but realize that probably not going to happen.

QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) Let's trade for Bryant, Arrieta, Kershaw, Trout, Arrenado too while we're at it Huh? His proposals weren't that farfetched.... I too think Kelly Johnson would be nice addition to the bench. Hope we shoot higher than Carlos Beltran for the big bat acquisition though.

White Sox Prospects of the Month, May 2016
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) Is Hayes a contender for a Sox bench spot? Makes more sense than Sands with Shuck also on the roster, IMO. Need Austin to get healthy, though.

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) Yeah, I would do that move in a heartbeat. Few reasons. First off, I wouldn't be outraged or anything if that move was made, but... I like Fulmer. If Fulmer is in the deal, I don't think the Sox should be picking up the full tab on Cargo. I wouldn't necessarily say that McMahon is a "better asset" than Fulmer - but its close. We all know the Sox develop pitchers better than hitters, and I suppose I'd rather see a guy closer to the majors than McMahon if Fulmer is the price, even though he is only a year or two away. While the Sox aren't exactly stacked at 3B in the minors, it is one of their better insulated positions. I am a big fan of Trey Michalczewski and think he is the third baseman in 2018 after Frazier leaves in FA. But there are other options on the farm in Davidson and Delmonico that could feasibility become average major leagues, even if that likelihood isn't high. If I am trading Fulmer, I think I'd prefer a high upside OF coming back. Basically, I think the Rockies need to kick in some cash in that deal if Fulmer is dealt, along with Engel and Danish. I do like the idea, just not that particular proposal, though it seems to be a pretty well thought out offer for a hypothetical.

Cashing in on Todd Frazier at the deadline?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) Todd Frazier's BABIP is 191. Should normalize at some point to his 280 career average. That will be fun. That's wild. The 16 HRs help though.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 26, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) I'd do Adams and Michalczewski for Lucroy for sure. Brewers probably wouldn't though. Tough pill to swallow for a guy you control for only 1.5 years. I think Trey is the replacement for Frazier in 2018. With so many guys off the books after next year, giving away the few offensive pieces we have in the minors doesn't seem wise.

James Loney
QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ May 24, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) Living in Florida and watching the Rays almost every game, I have always been a Loney fan, great glove at first and would be a nice backup for Abreu and is a damn good contact hitter, would be a good fill in at DH also. I don't need to see Sands anymore. I agree. He's nothing special, but an upgrade to Sands for sure. Just call up Shuck and send Kahnle back down. Acquiring Loney for nothing don't preclude the Sox from acquiring a better LH bat later in the summer when the sticker price drops.
