  1. Sale isn't getting traded. BUT....if he were, its going to take Betts, Moncada, Benentendi/Devers and 2 of Rodriguez, Espinoza, Swihart or other top ~8 guys in their farm. Which is why he won't be traded.

QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Believe it or not, he's over a 1/2 million negative value right now per Fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...sition=1B#value If anything is massive, it's his DROP OFF in value from his previous 2 years. He is still massively valuable, despite what his number look like right now.
  3. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Why not? Admit you made a mistake and move on. Also, for everyone who suggests "no team would take Shields," what does it say that we took him? It was a terrible move from the beginning. Nearly every move made last offseason and extending into this season has been terrible Because the man has made three starts. He's been terrible, no doubt, but he clearly isnt this bad. He must be hurt, or tipping his pitches, or both. We all know his confidence is in the s***ter. I'd say give him another start or two, if they're terrible DL him for 15 days, and let him make a couple rehab starts. I expect Shields to be a solid 4/5 for the Sox at some point, but the man needs a breather or something. Cutting him and eating $30M after 3 starts would not be a wise move.
  4. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) How many more one-inning/nine-run starts does Shields get before the Sox pull the plug? They aren't pulling the plug, but a trip to the DL is probably in order if he puts up another stinker.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) Yeah he just goes off the 40. That's all him being waived is. Boston is better off holding onto him and seeing if he can turn it around off of the 40 man roster. If they wanted him off the 40 man, they probably don't want him at all. That said, yes, it would make more sense for them to just see if he can figure it out since at most they'll recoup a few million bucks.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) Guys i'd trade if the pain don't stop: Sale, Robertson, Melky, Jones Guys I hold on to for dear life: Q, Rodon, Eaton Guys with low trade value: Abreu, Frazier You could completely rebuild the farm by trading those 4 guys and still have a few nice core pieces. All those guys in the 2 group are around til 2020 at least so you can build around them. Not saying its the best plan but its better that 76-80 wins a season for the next 5 years or a $150MM payroll and 85-88 wins over the same span. Jose Abreu does not have "low trade value". It wasn't what it was a year ago, but the dude is still massively valuable. He's also not getting traded.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) Robertson and Melky won't get you much, but both are capable players, and teams need OF/DH and relievers. You can get real actual prospects, but probably not top 100 guys. Navarro, Shields, etc are more likely to be released than traded. You could definitely get something of value for Melky and Robertson, but like you said, nothing that exciting. But, lets be real, the Sox aren't selling. If they do, it will be in the offseason.
  8. I'd definitely be interested if the Red Sox ate 95% of his contract.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) Did you break your keyboard with this post? You actually read his posts?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) Danks is retiring? Haven't heard anything about him at all for about a month. Guess he's hanging out in Nashville. He is a very wealthy man. Probably will never work another day in his life. Good for him - loved me some Johnny Danks.
  11. Early career Erick Aybar maybe?
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Gordon's an 80 speed guy, Tim's a 65. Not the best comp. I think Anderson's got a bit more pop too. Tim is more of a 70. I agree it's not perfect, but best I could come up with off the top of my head.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) I am trying to think of a good player comp for what Timmy brings to the table. Is he comparative to maybe a guy like Altuve? Dee Gordon maybe?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:16 PM) WHy is Morneau on the DL? ACL? I'm suspecting he'll be slower than Paulie. Dude, do you even follow the sox or just spend half your day posting about how s***ty they are here?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Carroll is fine if he isn't overexposed. As a long reliever and a mop up guy, he will give you OK numbers, and cover some innings. Really where our starters have been lately, that would have some real value. The man has a 5.00 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in Charlotte. He's terrible. I like the story and all, and he's given the Sox some decent innings in the past, but they can and should do better.
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Hey this may be Robin's last game. So there's some good news. Doubt that.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 03:40 PM) I really like when we have Carroll up as mop up. But we do have jennings and albers who can both go 2 innings or more. Carroll has turned into a legitimate pumpkin. No reason he should ever see Chicago ever again.
  18. I'd take him at the league minimum.
  19. QUOTE (GhostofDickeyKerr @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) And people like you are why JR can run an organization into the ground for 35 years without consequence. People like me? You know nothing about me. Don't get pissed at fans for not being fair weather fans. Trust me, I want the Sox to do well as much as you do - but I don't think boycotting them is going to make any difference, and I assure you that JR wants to win as much as anyone does (as he shows over and over and over again). Is this organization run perfectly? Absolutely not, but one of the reasons I love them so much is they always try, and frankly, while maybe it should have bit them in the ass pretty bad now, it really hasn't at all (speaking last 15-20 years).
  20. QUOTE (GhostofDickeyKerr @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) I don't watch games, I don't click on articles, and I don't spend one penny on them in any shape or form. That will have to be good enough. That'll show em'!
  21. QUOTE (GhostofDickeyKerr @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) This is perfectly stated, and I agree !00%. Kudos to you for refusing to support this sham of an organization. Do you all want change? Quit spending money on the White Sox. If everyone on this board decided to boycott the organization for the foreseeable future, you would be shocked at how swiftly Reinsdorf would respond. But as long as he is making money, the s*** show will continue. Sounds like a good way to get your team relocated.
  22. I really can't see the Sox firing Robin, but I hope that they do. I don't think managers make much of a difference, but it is obvious this team needs a jolt.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 12:17 AM) I bet deep down Rollins was glad to get released. Had to be the worst experience of his baseball career I'd think playing with this woe-begone team. This has to be one of the worst hitting team in Sox history. It's like the 60s when the mound was lower. Do you actually believe the s*** you spew out on a daily basis?
  24. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) How about playing Saladino 2B and Anderson SS with Lawrie DHing? Lawrie has a pretty good glove...
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) I don't see why he wouldn't be, just a weird setup. Was someone else going to jump all over Justin Morneau and sign him totally right now where we had to get him signed to this $650k immediately? I guess it gives him a chance to work in the minor leagues, maybe that's something he can't do on his own, actual game action. Maybe that's it, just so he can try to re-gather his skills in live action. But if Morneau knew the Sox would still try to sign another LH bat, why would he sign this contract so early and be stuck with a team that could leave him in the minors? My guess is that his risk of that was about the same for any team he'd potentially sign with, and the Sox are about as weak as it gets from the left side. Every team could trade for a guy that blocks him between now and mid-July. My guess is Morneau is an insurance policy for the Sox. If it doesn't work out, $650k is nothing for an MLB team. If the Sox don't get the LH bat they want or get some key injuries, they have a guy that can be productive ready to come up. I like the move.
