  1. QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Get a package, have rep access all year. Plus, as season ticket holder, you have lower level access. I have Fri, Sat and Sun for every home series. 38+ games? for under $200. $7 upper corners. I don't know if that was directed at me, but I live in MN. If I liked anywhere near Chicago I'd have been a season ticket holder a long time ago.
  2. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) If Rodon does not pitch with the Sox this year, will he be in the same position next year with the arbitration clock issue? Good question. I've wondered the same thing myself. Although I see it as a highly unlikely scenario unless he gets hurt.
  3. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) That only applies to ticket packages. Single game tix are ticketbastard only. Or the box office. Thanks. When do the discount codes usually get released?
  4. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) If you call the sox directly, you can avoid the fees. This goes for groups packages as well as season tix. Have you been assigned a rep? Will you be able to get single game tickets by calling on the 27th, or only online?
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Sell the farm for Cole Hamels. ALL THE LEFTIES!!!!!
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 12, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) I think he's gonna have some good games, but just as many absolute disasters. The problem with his velo loss isn't that he CAN'T be good, it's that he has to be on-point practically every pitch in order to be good. He'll have that stuff some days, but he'll have to re-invent himself to avoid being a problem more often than not, IMO. That's pretty much exactly what Danks did last year. He was really good about 70% of the time, and really bad about 20% of the time. 10% of the time he was somewhere in between. Look at these 6 starts: 5/2 vs. CLE: 5.0 IP 8 ER 5/18 @ HOU: 4.2 IP 7 ER 6/22 @ MIN: 5.0IP 6 ER 7/20 vs HOU: 4.1 IP 7 ER 8/5 vs. TEX: 4.2IP 9 ER 9/3 vs. MIN: 4.2IP 7 ER In those 6 starts, he pitched 28.2 innings with 44 ER (13.81 ERA). In his other 26 starts (21 of those were "quality starts"), he pitched 165 innings with 58 ER (3.16 ERA). Obviously if you throw out every SP's 6 worst starts, their numbers look better, but Danks is on a whole different level. If he can limit the stinkers a bit better than he did in 2014, Danks is serviceable in the 4 spot ($ not withstanding). Interestingly enough, his worst starts came against Houston, Minnesota and Texas, three of the worst teams in the AL last year. I don't expect big things from Johnny in 15, but I don't think he's going to that big of an issue. The $15.75M could obviously be better spent, but that's water under the bridge at this point.
  7. I don't watch a ton of NL baseball (as my eyes are usually glued to the SOX), so I haven't seen a ton of LaRoche in recent years, but he sure has a beautiful left-handed power stroke. I look forward to seeing balls crushed over the RF fence. I predict a big year for Adam.
  8. I think Jose proved just how good of a hitter he is in the 2nd half last year. Before the all-star break: .292/.342/.972 with 72 RBI and 29 HR in 322 AB After the all-star break: .350/.435/.948 with 34 RBI and 7 HR in 234 AB Sure, his power numbers took a hit as the league adjusted to him, and the 162 game season caught up to him. But he absolutely wore out RF in the 2nd half. He looked like one of the best pure hitters in the game (power numbers aside). My fearless 2015 projection: .328/.390/.995 with 40 HR and 120 RBI
  9. Would LOVE to see him brought back on minor league deal. He knows the SOX, the SOX know him...and ultimately we're a Cabrera or Garcia injury away from really wishing we had him. He made no sense on the bench, so I get the move.
  10. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) BB% / K% / ISO / BABIP A 5.2 % 22.7 % .136 .329 B 5.3 % 21.6 % .170 .291 A .272 / .314 / .408 / wOBA .316 wRC+ 97 B .254 / .298 / .424 / wOBA .315 wRC+ 95 Which one is Avi and which is Viciedo? A for Avi!!
  11. I'd love it, but it ain't happenin'. If he gets $100M, who ever gives him that is going to be disappointed. If it fell into the three years / $60M-$70M range, then I'd be VERY interested, but its not my money.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) For the record, I am in full agreement that I'd like to see another outfielder brought in, especially someone we won't hate seeing in CF, and I really don't want that player to be Emilio Bonifacio. Unfortunately, I think that player will be Emilio Bonifacio. I agree. Who do you see as options?
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 02:43 PM) I'll say one thing. I kind of think we should have just held on to DV till spring at this point. Basically in case someone went down early, you at least know you have a bat with some potential upside and power you could plug in. Now if there is an injury to one of our starting OF'ers, we are looking at some severe scraps replacing them. Yeah, that's my only issue with this. The Sox are really low on MLB OF options...we're an Avi Garcia or Melky Cabrera injury away from some pretty gross options in the OF. Gotta imagine they'll dumpster dive for another option, assuming Viciedo either gets traded or released. Tyler Colvin, Nate Schierholtz, Ryan Ludwig, Nolan Reimold, Reed Johnson are probably the best FA options are this juncture.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) Very simple. The payroll is pretty highly leveraged, as it is. You can make the argument for pretty much any team other than the Nationals or Dodgers that they're a couple players away. There are so few teams without at least 1-2 weaknesses, there's a TON of parity right now in the AL. The White Sox can't afford to put themselves in a position where they have to SUBTRACT payroll going into 2016. Samardzija gave them a much higher probability of competing THIS year, but the thinking is, like most seasons, that the adjustments (if necessary) will be made in June/July based on the standings and attendance/revenues. More than anything they can't afford to blow up that 2016 and 2017 optimal window by doing something that doesn't fit with the long-term plan. Right now, you're essentially looking at a 25% chance this year, 50% in 2016-17 and then back down to 25% in 2018 unless you hit gold with Rodon, Anderson, Montas, Hawkins, Danish, Micah Johnson, etc. and another high first-rounder this June. As long as John Danks is on the roster, they're hamstrung financially after all these additions to the point where they have to wait for the first 2-3 months to play out. I agree with everything you said, for the most part, until the end. Sure, John Danks circa 2014 was overpaid. But, $14M is what average ML pitchers get paid in today's game. Danks isn't THAT far away from being average. 180 IP w/ a 4.20 ERA and 1.3 WHIP in 2015 and the dude is worth every cent he is getting paid. It wouldn't be that crazy for Danks to do that another year removed from surgery. Sure, with the current make up of the SOX, that $14M would be nice to give to a mid rotation RHP instead of Danks, but it isn't the end of the world.
  15. Just from reading those quotes, it sounds as though the interviewer was pushing to get Sale to say "yeah, I am worth way more than I am paid, and its some bulls***."
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Ugh. Tyler Flowers sucks. I wish we could've put someone more consistent behind the plate. Flowers isn't great, but neither is the vast majority of all major league catchers. For the price, it ain't bad.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) You're right, out of 113 catchers, he was ranked 90th. So technically he was not the worst, but he's still far below average. Rene Rivera ranked 5th best, out of 113. Which is really saying something.
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) I did not know Shark was abr eliegible -- thought he had a contract. Oh, well. Also likely means the Sox have at last thrown extension offers at Shark's camp. As for Tank, meh, in my mind he has space on this team as a DH against LHP. LaRoche has proven he shouldn't be out there. Honestly, Tank is going to be needed in LF or RF before too long. He is a much better insurance policy than most teams have. Most likely he will suck, but there is upside there and for $4.4M in today's game, I like the idea.
  19. By all accounts, just a top notch guy. I still remember the day we signed Biggen'. I was so pumped that I watched youtube videos of him hitting moon shots for about an hour. It sure didn't work out for the SOX, but I wish the big man nothing but the best.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) what? I have to strongly disagree. Taylor messed up at least once while I was watching, but overall he's actually a pretty good outfield defender. That's part of why they picked him up. He is basically replacing Jordan Danks, which means the 5th outfielder and mostly in Charlotte. Well, I am going by the eye test, which was admittedly a small sample size. But he looked like a big lumbering linebacker out there. I certainly would want him no where near the SOX roster.
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) I remember you from WSI. Glad to see more of the WSI posters finding a better home for all things White Sox. That's where I was for most of my message board career. Started lurking here in 2010 or so, joined in 12, and this has been home since. Don't post as much as I did at WSI, but I think that's mainly because the SOX have been painful to think about before and after the games the past few years. Really enjoy Soxtalk!
  22. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) I'm pretty sure Danks actually does have one option remaining, due to, IIRC, a relatively obscure rule that I read about somewhere. I don't recall the nature of the rule or where I read it, but up until he was DFA'd he was listed on this website as still having at least one option year (there's an "Out of options" column and it wasn't filled in for Danks). I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure. Yea, that's what I was referring to.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 10, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) worst than DV?? Yes.
