  1. You're Rick Hahn and Aiken and Kolek are off the board, who do you take at pick #3?
  2. I think the team is going to be sellers at the deadline, I don't have faith in the way the bullpen has been performing and in the depth of the starting rotation.
  3. If I were Rick Hahn I would definitely be shopping around Alexi to contending teams that are in need of a bat, Seimen has showed how expendable he is this year with the way that he has played. And I would be shopping around Danks to contending teams as we get closer to the deadline, but I would only trade him if I got a good package of prospects back.
  4. I hope the Sox stay away from Hoffman, Beede, Nola, and the other college pitchers. Outside of Rondon I don't any projection from them. I hope they draft either Aiken, Jackson or Kolek because all three players have high ceilings and can be difference makers at the highest level. This year's crop of college pitchers just screams average to me and you don't draft average in the first round. Hopefully Reetz will be there in the second round, I have a feeling that Gatewood will be there and I think that the Sox will be able to lock him up.
  5. QUOTE (staxx @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) They compared hawkins to kemp on draft day. These are extremely loose projections that you can't base a decision on Comps are made so you can get an idea of what kind of player could a prospect poetentially develop into. Wil Myers is another that has been thrown around I read someone say that Jackson should play third, if that's the case then why did the team trade for Davidson, if the White Sox draft Jackson they need to put him in RF and just let him focus on his bat which is elite.
  6. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 8, 2014 -> 12:15 AM) Please link to anywhere where someone of note has made this comparison. http://macksmets.blogspot.com/2014/03/a-qu...rancho.html?m=1 I'm too lazy to find more, but they compare their bat speed to one another and their catcher/outfield profile.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) The problem isn't his willingness to catch, it's that you don't hold back a bat like that by making him catch. Comp is closer to Wil Myers than Inge. Bryce Harper is another comp that is being thrown around a lot for Jackson.
  8. I am hoping that the Sox are able to lock up Reetz and Gatewood after the first round. Here is an update on Tyler Kolek Tyler Kolek, RHP, Shepherd HS (TX) Not sure what else there is to say about Kolek at this point. He can’t rise much higher, and this might be the last time he makes the list because of that. It is, however, fun to write about how dominant he is and how abusive he is to his fellow peers. In his last start, he finished with 14 K/0 BB over five innings, allowing a hit. His last pitch registered 98 mph on the radar gun of Kendall Rogers over at Perfect Game. For the season, he now has 62 K/1 BB over 27.1 shutout innings, allowing three hits. The 6’-5”, 240 pound right-hander has entered the talks for 1.1 even though a prep right-hander has never gone first overall, showing just how special a talent he is. Committed to TCU — or the Astros. Read more at http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-ml...2ETAt7rjbsTs.99
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) Everyone needs pitching. They aren't good at developing hitters. What better time to start developing you own position players than now?
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 08:01 AM) I understand the philosophy but I think the Sox should do what they do. Draft the best pitcher. Then draft more pitching. If you can load up on arms you can always trade for already developed position players from other organizations. I think that is a horrible mindset, and if you're a GM with that mindset you're never going to set your team up for long term success.
  11. I think Jackson is the best position player in the draft, I think if the Sox were to draft him that we would be willing to sign under slot a al Carlos Correa so the White Sox would be able to sign better players later in the draft. If I were Rick Hahn, Alex Jackson would be the pick at #3 because the ceiling is so high and there is just too much poetential with the bat. Aiken and Kolek wouldn't look bad at #3 either.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 09:50 AM) All I have seen is one or two tweets saying the Sox were at an event of his. Is there more than that? Yeah on scout.com
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 08:11 AM) I would imagine that the Cubs and Rangers will be trading some of their slot $$. I imagine so too, in order to avoid the penalties. Plus info regarding the top players should be coming out soon, the White Sox have been linked to Huascar Ynoa, who is widely considered to be the best pitching prospect available in this year's crop. And it is widely believed that the Milwaukee Brewers have reached an agreement with Gilbert Lara for $3.4 million (Which is over their spending allotment), while other teams are still in pursuit for his services. It is also rumored that the Yankees already have 6 deals in place.
  14. Here are the international bonus pools and slot values: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...nd-slot-values/ The Sox have a total of $4,622,400.
  15. I really enjoyed listening to this, it was very insightful and its good to see (hear) some people enthusiastic about talking about the Sox farm system with an outlet to do so.
  16. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 12:01 AM) Well, in my opinion, it's a horrible blow if we forego signing our top pick this year. The overall talent level of our system is definitely on the rise, but true high-ceiling talent is sorely missing. We need it and we need it as soon as possible. There isn't just one top talent available this year. There are perhaps 5-6 pitchers and maybe, MAYBE, 2-3 position players. To waste time by foregoing a true talent this year because we've got protection by the #4 pick next year makes no sense. My point was unless we have a very firm commitment otherwise from Boras/Rodon (accepting #3 money, perhaps in return for the Sale "quick to the bigs" path), we're playing a very dangerous game potentially wasting a valuable #3 pick asset on Rodon. As for hoping we get another top ten pick next year -- I don't. Unless we're in the top 5-6 picks, there is often very little difference in picking 8-10 and picking 18-20. I hope we have enough Big League success in 2014 to avoid a top 5-6 pick. I never said that I hope that the Sox don't sign their pick, what I said was that blow isn't as bad as you're making it out to be.
  17. You don't draft a guy because he can make it to the bigs quickly, you always draft the best player available. I agree with everyone saying that the team needs to draft a stud with this pick, but in the unlikely scenario that the team can not sign its pick the blow is not that bad because the team is guaranteed the fourth overall selection in next years draft (To go along with what I am hoping is another top ten pick). If Rodon is there at 3 I think the team will draft him but all the college pitchers who were supposed to leading this draft class are putting up average numbers. Keith Law (Who is warming up to the Rick Han Regime) has Rodon ranked as the number 3 overall prospect in the draft behind Brady Aiken and Tyler Kolek. I am hoping that the Sox draft Alex Jackson or Tyler Kolek, who I believe are the two best players in the draft class. Jackson is a STUD, he has finally made the move from catcher to the outfield which will allow him the opportunity to advance more quickly through the minors, plus his hit and power tools grade out to be at least a 6 to go along with his elite bat speed. Alex Jackson could be the most elite offensive prospect in the Sox farm system since Frank Thomas and that excites me. On the other hand you could be looking at the next great power pitcher to hit the scene in Tyler Kolek, who can hit triple digits with regularity and longevity thanks to his 6'6 and 250lbs frame but he also has a plus changeup and slider. If I were Rick Hahn I would be watching those guys very closely.
  18. I don't why you all love Rasmus, when I see him I see an underperforming ball player.
  19. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) Bit of a newb question, but is the ultimate decision on picks made by the general manager or the scouting director? Obviously they'll consult and whatever but if there's a disagreement, who has the ultimate say, Hahn or Laumann? Hahn? The GM makes the call, the scouting director is their to make suggestions in the war room.
  20. Id be happy with either Kolek, Jackson or Aiken. The college guys are not dominating like they should.
  21. I am not worried about Kolek's frame, his body is just more mature. He has a similar build to Noah Syndergaard who is listed at 6'6 240, and if you're worried about his athleticism remember that he is being recruited by SEC teams to play DE. Once he starts training with ML physical trainers his body will be in better shape. I think that guys like Hoffman and Beede have reached their ceilings and are who they are going to be, I don't find their numbers to be too spectacular or worth of being a top 5 pick in the draft. Tyler Kolek on the other hand is a 18 year old power-pitcher, who has a fastball that can hit 100mph and hits the high 90s with regularity. He also has a developing slider and curveball that scream plus, along with a change up that sits in the low 80s. He is compared to guys like Syndergaard, Strausburg and Jonathan Gray. The sky is truly the limit for Kolek and his potential. He has to be the pick.
