  1. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) After taking into account CarGo's splits, injuries, and the fact he's owed 53M over the next three years, I don't get why people continue to bring up his name. Can someone offer a rational explanation please. Shields is another name that gets brought up and yet makes no sense given his age and length of contract he will get. Maeda is another guy I wouldn't get my hopes up for. I'm really hoping the Sox don't waste their time on him. PREACH
  2. Micker Adolfo DOB: 9/11/1996 Height: 6'3 Weight: 200lbs Postion: OF Bats: Rights Throws: Right Signed: July 2nd, 2013 Scouting Report: When he signed for $1.6 million, Adolfo generated a lot of buzz. First because he was one of the top international prospects and any team would be happy to have him. Second, but maybe more importantly, it signaled that the White Sox were not going to be afraid to sign young international players to big money bonuses. He was ranked as the No. 2 prospect during the July 2 opening of the international signing period for players at least 16 years old by MLB.com. Baseball America ranked him No. 9. Adolfo was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and, as a result, speaks fluent English so his transition to playing ball and living in the U.S. shouldn't be as steep as it is with most foreign players. He moved to the Dominican Republic at age 14, making him eligible for the international signing period. He is a good athlete with the ability to play a solid right field with a good arm, but his best tool is his power. He has big time power potential, but the question is whether he can make enough contact to make it matter. Adolfo made his professional debut with the new Arizona White Sox in 2014. - Future Sox
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) The Cardinals would argue those homegrown players all come into the system knowing if they perform well, they'll be promoted (and promoted together, usually)...that the Cardinals Way is inculcated from the very beginning...that all the prospects buy into the system, and the expectations of joining a "winning" organization where nothing short of the World Series is now the expectation, etc. They can watch examples like Wacha and Marco Gonzalez quickly progress through the system and know they can follow a similar path...or even examples where they're trading older veterans like Freese/Craig to create additional playing time for Wong, Grichuk, Adams, Tavares, etc. This cohesiveness is something (besides the lack of offensive players) the White Sox have never developed, and I think a lot of it's simply due to the KW "riverboat gambling" style of throwing a lot of talented acquisitions together and HOPING that everything clicks on a yearly basis. Then you look at almost every single player from our system having issues with strikeouts, execution offensively and defensively, baserunning...sloppy fielding mistakes, etc. That doesn't happen as often with the Cardinals (Top 3 with defensive runs saved as a team) or Giants, when you compare them defensively to the White Sox, it's a futile exercise to find any players other than Eaton/Ramirez that could hold their own on those two teams as a defender. Couldn't agree more. But I think that we're starting to see a philosophy that is being enforced in the lower levels of the farm when it comes from a offensive standpoint and approach, and in my opinion I think that started when Todd Severson was hired as the hitting coach. I remember reading that one of the first things he did after he was hired was that he held a week long hitting camp for the younger prospects like Hawkins, Trey M., Micker, Anderson, etc. and together they established an approach and worked on their swings. You can really see what a difference his teachings made with Courtney Hawkins ( ), the difference in his swing is undeniable. And we have a well established pitching philosophy that comes from Dom Cooper. The Sox have their offensive approach and pitching philosophy and over the years you're going to see those ideas trickled through the system and reach their way back to the majors.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) another name to think about is, and I know it is crazy, is Adams last yr 2 rounder. he just might ' fly thru the system. I think that if I had to bet on one prospect quickly rising through the system I would pick Adams and I would not surprised at all if that actually was the case.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) So 2 top prospects and the guy who was drafted before Rodon? I just wanted to point that out. / was meant to represent 'or' in that case.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 08:26 AM) If Q is going to the Marlins, I'm getting one of Stanton, Yelich, or Ozuna in return. And, if it's Yelich or Ozuna, I'm getting another pitcher or two in that trade too. At this point, the Sox need to be done trading young, quality players for packages of prospects. If I can't get Stanton back in a straight up trade for Quintana and cash, I would want back Andrew Heaney and Chrisitan Yelich or Tyler Kolek (Who you would have to get back as a PTBNL) and another low level prospect. But I would only trade Quintana for multiple prospects that are ML ready and one or two low level ones. If I had to trade him, I would try to trade him to either the Pirates for Glasnow/Meadows/Tucker and the Dodgers for Seager/Urias/$. If I had to trade him.
  7. I think Robin is doing a good job, and is the right manager for the Sox. He's been doing the best with what he has to work with, and he's been doing great when it comes to developing some of the young players on the roster. You can not blame him (Or Hahn) for what happened with the bullpen and now that all the dead weight is off the team he can really establish a winning culture and attitude in the clubhouse.
  8. If I am the Sox and I had to pick between a FA with a CO attached to him or keeping a second round pick, I am keeping the draft pick.
  9. I would have been tempted to send Courtney Hawkins there. Just to give a taste of higher competition so both him and the club will have a better idea of what he needs to work on. I really want to like Olacio, the potential is there but he drastically needs to improve his command. I like Bassit and that he should be given a chance to start the year in the rotation. Where does Tim Anderson okay in the major? Is he really that bad defensively as his high total of errors indicates him being? Can Montas join the rotation at some point next year, joining Rodon?
  10. The Rockies are working out Justin Hooper
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) i know its early but i can't believe how much info are out there this early on next yr draft. can't wait until the playoff is over. Thank the internet. I was watching videos of 2018 guys too today.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) At the very least, he sounds like Baez to me. Not at all. Micker is not going to strike out at the same clip Baez will. Micker's strikeout total can be attributed to things like his age in regard to his level, inexperience and fatigue. I will admit, I would live to see him run more.
  13. I think Adolfo can be the next Soler, I am really high on him.
  14. The boston herald is reporting the same. They say Boston is going after Sale and Stanton this offseason.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 06:09 AM) when I read that, I was thinking if the journalist was wishful thinking or trying to relay info from Masterson camp. me. I agree, he is not worth 12 mil then again I am a fan and thinking as a fan. it is the baseball people who will determine what he is worth. however, I think something like 8-10 mil. I would give him $8M guaranteed for one year and the rest would be incentives. I don't imagine him getting a QO either, which is good for the Sox.
  16. Report from MLBTradeRumors.com: Zach Links expects right-hander Justin Masterson to settle for a pillow contract to rebuild his value after a down 2014 and $12MM for that one year could make sense. I personally don't think that he's worth $12N for one year.
  17. Just going to post this here but here is what some people are saying is the top prospect for 2017 Jevon Ward... http://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerp....aspx?ID=432890 Back to 2015: here are some guys that you should check out. Mitchell Hansen, OF : He's a 6'4 195lbs, OF from Plano, Texas. Lean, yet athletic build that has room for projection and additional strength. Roberts to be a top level defensive outfielder in the pros and he has a good set of wheels. Bats from the left side and he has a spread batting stance and he has a short swing with simple mechanics, fast hands and some shift in his legs that allows for line drafts. He consistently squares the ball up and projects to be a high average hitter, who also hits for power. He's is a great all around athlete and he projects as a true five tool player. Kody Clemens, SS/2B : The son of Roger Clemens. Kody stands at 6'1 170lbs and hails from Houston, Texas. He has a slender athletic build, plenty of room to get stronger. Good defensive player with above average arm strength and good range. Left handed hitter, quick short swing with very good bat speed, line drive contact with some right centerfield gap power, looks to pull the ball, projects as a good hitter. Polished player with athleticism and present skills. I personally think he projects better at second base than short stop. Kyle Tucker is my favorite player in this class and at this moment he is who I hope the draft at 8, along with Ryan Mountcastle in the second round, who very much reminds me of Evan Longoria. And yes, the kind of player I covet should be obvious by now.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) Thanks everyone, this was fun to write. we'll probably add it as an FAQ of sorts to the site later. That's a great idea, and please keep the content coming.
  19. I really wanted then to draft Reetz badly, he can really hit. Other guys I wanted were Monte Harrison, Jacob Gatewood and Forrest Wall
  20. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 05:30 PM) Thank you for sharing this. IMO, Danish and Montas would have ranked above Hawkins. Not sure I understand that one. I take it that he was ranked higher because of how much improved and bounced back. Personally, outside of Rodon he has the highest ceiling in the system.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) no, it is just his opinion and you and Joshua has a point and believe me when I say this a valid opinion. I would never have known about Heyward unless I read this thread. Thank you
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) when the sox went to sox out Abreu, the sox was in the beginning of rebuilding. the sox org, esp KW did not know that much about Abreu. it was there that KW call JR after the showcase and raved about him JR trusting KW and his excitement and over bid even to KW surprise. it was during this season and all the other players did the sox org realize they had players to compete. so in essence, if other teams realize how great Abreu was, do you think that the sox would have outbid for his services? I am saying that if the market had more demand (Meaning if the Red Sox, Dodgers and Yankees didn't have first basemen.) there would be no way he plays in Chicago. If I remember correctly, the final three teams bidding Abreu were the Sox, Houston and Colorado.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) oh yeah I totally agree with yous guys. you remember last yr draft, there were about 4 certified top 3 picks. then Jeff Hoffman got hurt and then the domino chips starts to fall. that was exciting and made things more of an anticipated wait and see. that kind of excitement is what make the draft great. btw, look at the 2nd rounder who the sox pick. he was projected to be a late 1st rounder, he fell to the 2nd rounder and for me screwed up my hope for a catcher in the 2 round who I was following. Who?
  24. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) This has to be the lamest excuse ever. Now I know you're trolling. The Sox need a middle of the order lefty bat, better defense in RF and are looking for core players are in their early to mid twenties, that's Heyward. Its academic. Nah I don't want him. He can't stay healthy, strikes out a lot and should be a better hitter than he's shown to be. At his age, it's harder to get better.
  25. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) Heyward will not turn 26 until August of 2015. Oh yeah, Abreu is 2.5 years older than Heyward but it didn't stop the Sox now did it? Heyward fits into the age group that Hahn is looking for in a core of players. Abreu was more of a pressing need, and he is the type of player that the Sox would normally not be able to get.
