2014 White Sox MiLB Stats Leaders - Starting Pitchers
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 02:15 AM) I will honestly say that I did not know of him before and since the sox drafted him in the 33 round. 20 going on 21 by all rpts has a nice mix of hitting tools. but those are from the stats I was able to find. the other posters who does the minor league may have more. I'm talking about the pitcher the Sox signed out of Latin America.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) Its not about just filling a hole, its about getting players to help this team win to be competitive. The Sox don't have the fan base to do a baby step rebuild like the cubs have been doing. Hell, the cubs are finding out that even their fans are growing tired of it and want a competitor. Again,I'm all for collecting young talent but this is a team that is currently looking at a speculated 2015 payroll of around 50M, a team that once had a payroll of about 128M in 2011. They have plenty of room on the field and in the budget to make this team competitive. I'm not saying the Sox must sign a player or two that have draft pick compensation attached to them, I'm saying it should not be ruled out, not at this point anyway. If Hahn put together a few trades and signed a few relievers, signing one or two FA could end up being the missing pieces to winng the division in 2015. I won't rule anything out. I like watching young players develope but I love watching the White Sox win! What did that $127M payroll bring the sox? And just because you have a lot of room to operate from a financial standpoint, you don't have to spend it all in one off season. What I am trying to say is that having a big payroll doesn't guarantee success and just because you have money to spend, you shouldn't blow it all immediately. I personally think that the team is farther away from contending than most people. I think that 2015 will be another building year (The 'goal' next year is .500 in my opinion and it's what I expect) and the team won't be competitive till 2016. I don't want it to sound like I am overvaluing draft picks, but they are very crucial to the health of a franchise. Look at teams like the Cardinals for example. The Cardinals are the best organization in baseball in my opinion and they are always in the mix for the title because they have a constant stream of home grown talent coming up from the farm, you never see them sacrificing draft picks ever, unless it's for a player that will bring them over the hump. The Sox need all the draft they can get right now, yes the farm has improved but it still has a ways to go. The Sox shouldn't be relying on FA to fill holes, that's what got the team in the position it is now, we need those draft picks to give us those internal options. I am not saying that I don't want the team to sign any FAs, I just don't think that they should one if a draft pick is attached. I love watching the Sox win just as much as you do, I just want them to start looking towards the future more as opposed to just the following season.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 12:53 AM) I find it interesting how you quoted my post instead of Wite's. I wonder why that is... I agree that we need draft picks to keep the farm going so that it can help feed the MLB team in the future. However, this team needs to continue improving if the Sox are going to get some butts back in the seats. The Sox don't have the internal options to fill the holes they have, not to make the team competitive anyway. So they just MIGHT have to sign a FA or two to fill those holes and try to make them a competitor or at the very least try to improve another ten games in the win column in 2015. I like you, that's why. On a serious note, that period of drafting from 2007 - 2011 is why the team has been in the position (Some might call it a rut) that it has been in. The team needs those draft picks to fill those holes internally. The team needs to continue collecting and developing amateur talent, and avoid signing guys with QO's just to fill a hole. They should only sign guys with QO's, if they think that it brings them over the hump in regards to a championship and in my opinion the team is still another year away from competing for the division. Baby steps... baby steps.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) I think he's saying that signing two free agents with gualifying offers is worth the Sox losing their 2nd and 3rd round picks. The Sox need their draft picks. We don't want to go through another stretch like 2007 - 2011 from a draft standpoint.

It's about that time of the year again...
I have been giving this some thought, but if Robin Ventura were no longer the manager of the team, I would want the Sox to hire Bo Porter. I really liked what he did with the Astros and he should still be managing the team.

2015 Offseason
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 12:55 AM) I went over that in my post. To add to that post let's keep in mind the Yanks just might be reluctant to give up their 2nd best prospect considering their system is so weak, outside of a few guys of course. Another thing is if you don't think those two low level prospects will sniff the majors, what's the point? The Yankees are deep at Catcher, they can survive trading Sanchez. In regards to the two international signings, there is a chance that most prospects will not make it to the bigs. INTL kids are lottery tickets and those are two kids that I would glady bet on.

2015 Offseason
I'm not over valuing him, I'm sending you a proven, all star shortstop in return for one of the better prospects in their system and two kids who statisitics say that there is a good chance they'll not even sniff the majors and won't get past the DSL. I'm overvaluing how?

2015 Offseason
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) The Sox and Yankees are actually great matches if they wanted to pursue a deal. If I'm Rick Hahn and dealing with the Yankees, I would want back Gary Sanchez and two of the international prospects that they just signed, preferably Juan de Leon and Antiono Arias.

Cue meltdown in 3...2...
Ideally, Rodon starts the season in the bullpen and becomes a starter in either June or July to save his arm.

2015 Offseason
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) If we could pick up all those players, I'd give Hahn a B+ for the offseason. He'd still have to fire Ventura to give us a shot to win and earn an A. I think Ventura is a rather good manager and someone that has what it takes to bring the Sox to contention and I think that he is a good manager to have around for the rebuild, I also think that he is pretty good as well when it comes to developing young talent. Everyone here couldn't stop drinking his koolaid back in 2012 when they were contending for the division. People have to remember that the team is rebuilding, so all of your expectations need to be tempered down. It is ridiculous to think that the team should 90 games while they're rebuilding and the FO has come out and said such, it doesn't work like that. Ventura is not going anywhere and he shouldn't be.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Do Dustin Ackley's beckham-like numbers or Rasmus' viciedo-like numbers really appeal to so many ? Have we gotten rid of the dead weight only to acquire more of the same ? Bartender, give this man a drink on my tab. This is the smartest thing that I have heard on this thread.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) Vlad Jr has some serious power: Actually, I have been doing research on next year's international crop and the Guerrero Family is reponsible for three of the best propects in the class apparently. There is Vlad Jr who is being pegged as the best overall prospect for next year. There is Gregory who is the best over shortstop and has the best hit tool according to some scouts. And then there is Josue.

Finding a LH/Switch hitting OFer
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) Also worth throwing out there, if it hasn't been already, Q ranks 9th among pitchers in the whole league in WAR. That almost feels a little silly to me, but it's true. He's nearly 2 whole points ahead of Shields who is probably about to get paid 3x as much as Q is being paid. Where did you get that from?

Finding a LH/Switch hitting OFer
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 04:29 AM) 1) The Dodgers are more than likely not offering Urias and Seager. 2) The Cubs rebuild has taught us...Soler is good and Baez sucks and that they still have no pitching outside of Arrieta. They don't have Sale, Abreu, Q, Eaton or Garcia. 2 franchise cornerstones and three all-star level talents already at the MLB level. I just used that trade as an example, since someone brought it up. The Cubs do have two franchise cornerstones in Rizzo and Castro, oh and they have another coming up in Kris Bryant. And Baez dose not suck, it's too premature to say that, you should judge after he plays a full season in the bigs first.
