QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 25, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) The White Sox are also famous for rushing guys who are not ready and then failing. Yet they continue to do it. Saladino can at least field the ball and gives the same offensive output as Rollins. Really sad. He's had over 1300 minor league ABs. How long should one be babied? He's been incredible at every single level he's played at. He's ready. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 25, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) I don't think that Anderson is ready but I bet we see him for the start of the next home stand. Honestly, even if he's not ready, I dont think he could be any worse and he sure as s*** can be a lot better if he does adjust quickly -

You've got to hand it to the Indians, their approach this series is incredibly impressive. They've put together great ABs the last 2 games and absolutely demolished our best pitchers pitch counts so they have no chance of going deep. They are playing excellent defense and throwing strikes. Im kinda jealous actually, it seems like they were actually prepared for this series and realized how important it was. -

Even if they decide not to stick him at catcher, he still provides a ton of value if he DHs. Things this franchise desparately needs to infuse: -Offensive prospects....check -Left handed power....check -OBP ability.....check -Potential premium defensive position.....check If Rutherford or another high quality prospect doesnt fall to them, this should be the play. I dont expect him to move as fast as Schwarber, but if you can infuse this kid into the roster soon, that is so valuable.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 25, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) I really took a step back this morning and smelled the roses. The Sox are in first place and we are almost into June. They probably wont hold first place from now until the end of the year but they at least have enough talent and good mix to remain competitive this summer and hopefully into Fall buying themselves a playoff lottery ticket. Hahn will make a move to improve the team and we may get some fun surprises in call-ups that produce and help the team in this playoff goal. Last year was miserable. This team is at least going to make this summer interesting and I look forward to more entertaining ball. This. I was sitting at the ballpark last night after Sale gave up his last run and looking around and was just thinking to myself "while this game sucks, man has it been so much more fun coming to the ballpark again". Fact of the matter is the AL will be a dog fight this year. Everybody knew that coming in. If you thought the Sox were going to run away with this division, well I dont know what to tell you. This is a pretty solid team though: we are watching two of the best pitchers in baseball 2 out of 5 times through the rotation, we have one of the best RFers in baseball, our black hole at 3B has finally been solved, and we have the second most wins in the AL despite our best hitter going through a prolonged slump to start the season. Everyone should do what shipps says and take a step back and remember to enjoy this more. This is a fun team that is prone to making some mistakes, but they are in the hunt and this thing is wide open. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 25, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) Delmonico's promotion to Charlotte is interesting. He was a former top prospect that seems to have figured something out and is only 23. Delmonico and Hayes both at Charlotte. Davidson is also playing well along with Coats. Yup. I think there are too many options worth checking out in AAA to keep throwing ABs away on the likes of a Avi/Sands platoon. I would start out with Hayes or Coats and go down from there. Davidson seems to be re-establishing himself a little bit, but that K% needs to drop below 30. I'd like to see Delmonico get some time in AAA before he gets moved up.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 25, 2016 -> 08:28 AM) DH is a way bigger issue than Avila. Everyone has bad catchers. DH is much easier to upgrade. The Jerry Sands experiment really needs to end. I think they should give Hayes a shot and see what he's got and if that doesnt work, go outside the organization.

They just need to go out and play today knowing that if they win Cleveland didnt make up any ground on them. Go beat Kluber. Please. -
No, no he's not.
-
If they are going to bring up an OFer, bring up Coats. See what some of these other guys have at this point. Sands, Shuck, Sanchez, Garcia, etc. are known quantities.

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ May 24, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) What makes you think that the Yankees aren't trying to compete this season? They're a .500 team and are only 5.5 games back. Teixeira is having a terrible year. Beltran would be the guy to go after but, again, the Yankees don't really look like sellers right now and the Sox don't have anything to offer in return besides Anderson and Fulmer. Beltran wouldnt cost anything approaching Anderson or Fulmer

I wonder how long they roll with the 13 man pitching staff. That bench is ugly thin now. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 24, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) Must win game for the Sox IMO. The shot of Kluber shutting down the offense tomorrow is pretty high, so they need to win this one for sure. Jose Quintana's ERA is half of Kluber's on the season. Time to be positive and start thinking that their offense is the one that needs to worry. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) If he has another so-so offensive/injury-plagued season and has to take another one-year offer to wait for the 2017-18 market. Not an ideal situation. But at least he would have more motivation than giving a catcher at age 30 a three to five year extension. Ramos is the more interesting name to me, because the cost will be lower and he's much younger, but still not seeing how we could possibly acquire him during the season. He's hitting .283/.330/.455, Im gonna go out on a limb and say he's not taking a 1 year deal.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:49 AM) You mean you're willing to sign Lucroy to a $90-100 million contract to add him to the team through 2020? Because that's going to be the going rate...it's not just losing all the cheap and controlled years of Fulmer, it's the fact that we really can't afford that type of contract unless we make the playoffs. It's always risky to sign a catcher to a long-term extension (see McCann with the Yankees, or Russell Martin with the Blue Jays) once they've reached 30. It's one thing to bring in someone like Wieters for a single season, but a 3-5 year commitment just has so many things that can go wrong with it in terms of losing bat speed/nagging injuries/concussions/league change. Why would Wieters sign a 1 year contract?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:34 AM) After all the talk about building a "sustainable" core of younger players, it's hard to imagine they would go for a 1/2 year rental and trade Fulmer in the process. Quality pitching is so expensive, and so is quality catching, but it doesn't seem like the type of risk Hahn's going to be willing to take after the Samardzija trade went in the wrong direction. Not to mention there's no draft pick compensation, so they ONLY way that trade is made is where they have an agreement in principle and a 5-10 ten day window for the White Sox to get him to agree to an extension (similar to the Freddy Garcia situation). Meh, I dont really see much of a problem adding to the core with a controlled player. You'd like to see them get somebody for longer with a prospect like Fulmer, but they are going to need to add another big bat and they are going to need to trade prospects to do it.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:21 AM) Lucroy is a free agent after next season. Are they going to pay a 30 year old catcher to stay around at that point? Probably not, not like they have many other options kicking down the door though. I imagine Narvaez can be a serviceable backup, but the FA market isn't all that appealing. Every free agent is over 30 besides Ramos.
-
I really think they should still be targeting Lucroy right now. If Im thinking about ways to position this team in the second half, you can improve the most by adding Lucroy and bringing Anderson up. I would definitely consider even giving up Fulmer to lock up our catching situation as I just dont think either catcher is reliable at this point. Eaton Lucroy Cabrera Frazier Abreu Lawrie Hayes? Jackson Anderson

Haven't started a game thread this season yet, so I will give this a whirl. Heading to the game tonight and am 5-0 on the season so far, hopefully staying undefeated. Let's Go Sox!

Honestly, even though these will both be marathon games for our pitching staffs, I have to say that that Indians lineup is trash outside those top 3. -
