Sources say Ian Desmond is having on-going conversations with the #Cardinals, #WhiteSox, #BlueJays. NOTE:he has said he's willing to play OF

It would be a downright incredible move to swing a trade for Jennings and Odorizzi, I wish the Sox had the firepower to get it done

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) Can the Sox seriously just make their move(s)? This entire offseason has been beyond frustrating. It's really gotten old. It started out with KW saying Hahn doesn't have a plan, to getting Lawrie (which I was excited about), to getting Frazier (which I was peak excited about), to doing absolutely nothing and watching everyone around them pass them by. I get the need to be smart with your money, but they picked that completely wrong time to become frugal. Worst part about the whole thing is we all knew this was going to happen, only we had enough hope that maybe this time would be different. It's not, or atleast it isn't looking like it will be. An organization of half measures, that's all the Sox will ever be under JR's watch. He has seemingly destroyed 2 franchises but will always be lauded for bringing 7 championships to Chicago. Something 23 was much more responsible for.

Anyone seen a comprehensive review of Senzel? He is an intriguing option in that he may be a fast mover that could make the jump quick, but he seems lower floor than some of these other guys.

Im really surprised this is taking so long. Im so emotionally tired b/c of the White Sox already and the season hasn't even started yet.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 08:46 AM) HS SS Nolan Jones could be an option for White Sox at #10. Multi-sport athletic type that they like. Mickey Moniak is another HS OF that could be an option around #10. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/draft...rt-nolan-jones/ http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/confi...-mickey-moniak/ He might have helium during this season, but I think he is going to be available around the comp pick. If he is, I would love for the Sox to grab him. With that first pick, I think I'm looking at Delvin Perez, Nick Senzel, Corey Ray, Buddy Reed, and Kyle Lewis. Will Benson is interesting as well, but I think he'd be a little reach at their first pick. Bobby Dalbec should be off the radar, too similar to Matt Davidson IMO. I'd be fine with another big arm with the top pick, but they really need to infuse some major upside position players into the system and this is a great draft to do it.

Cubs have nothing to gain by signing Fowler. If they had traded Soler for pitching it wouldve made sense, but I really think that ship has sailed.

Adam Engel - legitimate starting OF prospect?

If he can just be Kevin Kiermaier, I'd put that as a major win for the Sox farm system -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) Strange that this is coming from Merkin. Quintana and a second-tier reliever for Puig and Guerrero OR Hernandez. The problem is reconciling the years of control left for the two centerpieces. If Q and Puig were in the same situation contractually, you could argue it more realistically. Obvious targets like Rodon, Eaton and Fulmer are seemingly untouchable. Just doesn't feel like the right fit at this time. Also completely dependent on Sox confidence in Fulmer and Johnson. You're still going to have to roll the dice with Jacob Turner and/or Latos, Lincecum, Cliff Lee, etc. if you make this move. In the final summary, more logical from a marketing perspective than reality. That trade makes no sense for either side.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) Eaton had a shoulder injury last year that messed with his arm. He had a clean up surgery at the beginning of the offseason. Eaton has a terribly difficult time playing at USCF. He can't pick up the ball for whatever reason. He's worked with multiple different coaches, tried different glasses, etc. Not sure what they'd do if they signed Fowler, but there's a rationale for Eaton moving to RF even if he's the better defender of the two. This, coupled with the notes with the numbers you included on Desmond, make me really think that the Sox are best suited to sign both Desmond and Jackson. Improve outfield defense, base running, and overall offense while sacrificing some defense at SS. I think I can live with that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Brian Bilek @BrianBilek_ 28m28 minutes ago Fulmer (10th pick) the 4th highest from the '15 draft and Anderson (17th pick) is the 2nd highest from '13 draft. 5th highest FWIW....Swanson, Rodgers, Bregman, Tate, Fulmer

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2016 -> 03:20 PM) ? That is next off season. This is currently the 2015-16 off season. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseba...ould-make-sense I might be on my own here, but it would be really sweet to get Fowler at a fair price this season then use the Danks/LaRoche money for Encarnion next season. Middle of the order would be scary.

They can ask for Q or Rodon, but there is 0.0% chance he could net either. Dude was f***ing awful last year. He was basically Avi Garcia.

Lack of leadership =\= laid back. Keep pushing your dumbass narrative though.

Scott Van Slyke would be a great target

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Pretty chill Q&A. Robin with the jokes. New 2016 slogan: We've Got Issues. Have to wonder tho are ppl satisfied, polite, or just apathetic, considering how much the Sox have failed in the last decade. A lot of malaise here, no vitriol. A lot of column C

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) She's been right on a lot this offseason with regards to the Cubs. Have a feeling this is another Zobrist situation where there is a deal in place and Theo just has to give the go ahead that the corresponding move is finalized Unless they are lining something up with the Indians or Padres, I see no fits for them to add Fowler. That Dickerson trade kinda f***ed them.

So they are going 5 on Fowler?

Ventura: "White Sox have potential to be dangerous"

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) You think Frazier will be better defensively than Saladino was??? I think Frazier is an average 3B and Saladino is slightly better than average. I think Sanchez is an outstanding 2B and I think Lawrie is a very good one. I have no clue if Saladino is better at SS than the 2nd half Alexei. I think the infield is slightly worse defensively than last year but they needed more offense and the infield will be much better offensively. That is why I feel they need to improve the outfield defensively to offset what I perceive to be a drop in the infield defense. I have no clue how the catcher defense will compare to last year. I dont think people give Frazier near the credit he deserves defensively. He is top 10 in both DRS and UZR. Tyler was great at third last year, but dude had no stick. His defense and bat play WAY better at SS and I think people will realize how bad of a defender Alexei was these last couple years once Tyler gets time there. -
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) If we're going for the "anything is better than Avi" route Jennings is fine I guess, but if he wasn't a former top prospect would anybody care? He's 29 with over 2,000 AB's...don't think any light is going to come on. Especially in this franchise where hitting talent goes to die. I'd rather just keep Petricka honestly, guys who can play a good LF and barely maintain a .700 OPS aren't that hard to find. Apparently it's harder than thought as we dont have one

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) Yeah they probably have the most potential to be dangerously bad. Is the Lawrie/Frazier addition going to make last years team THAT much better? No I personally dont think so. They should be better but not enough to make a significant jump from last year in wins. For reference: Sox 3B fWAR last season: -1.3 Todd Frazier fWAR last season: 4.4 Sox 2B fWAR last season: -1.2 Brett Lawrie fWAR last season: 0.6 Those 2 changes alone add roughly 7.5 wins to last years team, so a pretty significant difference IMO. -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) If the Sox were to acquire Jennings, does he easily replace Garcia is right field? His offensive numbers look similar to Garcia's. Is he that much of an upgrade defensively? Not being sarcastic...I just don't know much about his defense. Jennings has been worth 12.2 fWAR over his career in comparison to Avi's -1.9. So with pretty similar offensive career lines, you can get a pretty good idea of the upgrade Jenning's defense and baserunning would be over Avi's.
